MI Guitars
Hi all, This is my fourth build, thought id show you all some pics! I always wanted to laminate a piece of copper onto the front of a guitar. Ive done aluminum in the past (might post pic of that guitar later if people are keen) but decided to try some copper this time. The copper is clear coated to stop it from tarnishing using 2pak paint. The pickups are a Kent Armstrong Motherbucker in the middle position and a custom Brierly Bucker on the bridge. After much deliberation (and a suggestion from Tim @ Tym guitars) we decided to wire an on/off for each coil along with a volume control for each coil as well. This enables you to mix and match as well as blend different parts of each pickup together..... Theres TONS of sounds available. Also is a kill switch which the Lights are wired to as well. When im doing the Tom Morello stuff the guitar flashes. Bit wanky but i love it cause its different! I intend to use this guitar a lot on the new record we are about to record in two weeks time. Sorry for the crappy pics, im using my iphone camera! hehe. Any questions let me know! Enjoy! Cactus
Friggin' awesome. Does the copper-top affect tone? Edited October 19, 2008 by Cactus
chops1983
haha that looks sick. So much for the old keep it simple theory, I wouldn't know where to start with all those switches! But definately a cool guitar. How thick is the copper?
Prostheta
Great work! I bet shielding isn't a problem :-D I prefer the look of copper to aluminium, but it would be cool to see that one also. Any chance of a gold top?
ElysianGuitars
that is awesome! love it. the only thing i'm iffy on is the small headstock, but otherwise, i love the design of the body, love the copper top(seeing as its very likely ground, makes for great shielding ), love the lighting. psw
Where did you buy copper like that...how thick is it...and how is it applied? Looking great and I'd like to see the aluminium one...had been thinking of doing something similar with an aluminium face a bit like zementis... pete
jer7440
Very cool. I'm also curious about the copper detail....thickness and such.
ae3
Yeah I was wondering about the copper thickness too. It's such a cool guitar. Those mother-buckers are four single coils in one humbucker housing aren't they? It's insane, but then again this is not your average guitar! Nice work. Bmth Builder
love it. I would buy one. maybe he will 'duracell' it!!!! ahahaha Love it, looks awesome, the tops very sleek, the only thing I dont like is the seemingly random placement of the LEDs... MI Guitars
Hey guys cheers for the comments! The Copper is 2mm thick. I bought it at the scrap yard. The copper is glued to the body and clamped tight. Of course all the screws from the bridge and pickups etc etc hold it into place nicely as well. The LEDS were placed so that they wearnt obstructed by my arm/hand when im playing... no use having lights if no-one in the crwod can see em!!! hehe Mark
MI Guitars
It´s a very nice guitar, really...I checked out your links. I really liked your music, great stuff! Who the h*** came up with the idea of the clock hands moving when you choose another section? That´s spooky man...it reminded me so much of the first "Silent Hill" game it creeped me out! Hey dude cheers! Yeah i built that website actually! The clock was a staple of our designs for the last CD this CD will see a new one i think.. But yeah the background music is quite spooky! thans to Absynth! hehe
