Untitled_Project
make excuses to do it, not, not to do it! j/k I gotta do it because I hate my acoustic(wwe never got along). I gotta do it because my other guitar isn't holding its tune as well as she used to. I gotta do it because chicks dig red guitars. I gotta do it because my last guitar I was building got lost in a move....it must be avenged!
Untitled_Project
A few pics: The wood (maple cap is in the mail) The design I'm torn between 6 in a line or 3x3 for the headstock/tuners. Judging by the design, what would be more complimentary? The bridge, truss rod, and frets are also in the mail and I'll be ordering the rest of the parts on September 4th (pay day)
Ripthorn
I would actually go with a 4x2 arrangement. I think that would look really good on this body shape.
Reinhold
I was going to suggest that also, then noticed you already did. I think that would really be awesome with the way the horns fall.
jeremyp
i'm really liking this shape!
s2p2e
Ditto on the 4X2. Looks great so far; nice design!
Untitled_Project
I'm have a problem designing a 4X2 headstock now It just looks stubby, any pointers?
Untitled_Project
Headstock has been designed... My parts have finally started to come in; The Floyd Rose is very nice, has a brass tone block and came with everything except the locking nut. So I'll be ordering an R4 asap. A few hickups now; my knobs are for solid shafts and I believe I ordered split; will this be much of a problem? I could always stick a strip of thin sheet metal into the splits.... I once saw a site where it shows how many shims to place under your FR saddles to adjust the radius; does anyone know the site? Pictures of my new parts will come soon! Cactus
I'm have a problem designing a 4X2 headstock now It just looks stubby, any pointers? Whatever you do, don't use that PRS-headstock like so many do on non-PRS-bodies.. About the body, I'm a little worried about the balance of this thing. I do like the look of it, but it seems to me that the lower waist should go forward (towards the neck) a little. To me It looks a little neck-heavy. Otherwise, I'm keen on watching this project! Untitled_Project
Funny you mention that; about 2 hours ago I was thinking about future balance problems and came to the conclusion that the body wasn't big enough. Today I will be widening the lower half of the guitar. Glueing will, hopefully take place on thursday or saturday.....stupid midnight shift! Untitled_Project
Like I said, stupid midnight shift! No progress but parts.... http://s745.photobucket.com/albums/xx96/Un...nt=P1000611.jpg Quick story about the parts; Ordered my switch and pots from rsguitarworks. When I ordered, the 500k "super" pot , as well as the 500k push/pull pot; the site said it was out of stock (I expected they would back order or something).......When parts came in I recieved a 250k push/pull pot and a 500k "super" long shaft pot. They said I got what I ordered....not true. Now, to return them for the right parts I have to pay around a total of 35 dollars for reshipping and restocking fees. I really just want this done so I don't mind paying, but now they won't/taking a very long time, returning my emails. http://s745.photobucket.com/albums/xx96/Un...nt=P1000612.jpg http://s745.photobucket.com/albums/xx96/Un...nt=P1000615.jpg http://s745.photobucket.com/albums/xx96/Un...nt=P1000613.jpg I'm going to glue it up one of these days.....no days off for 10 days Edited October 24, 2010 by Untitled_Project
Untitled_Project
Body is all glued up. Moved across the country, so I haven't done much lately. The top needs to be thickness sanded and then glued on. This should take place on the 20th....BUT! Everything is looking good so far! Untitled_Project
Finally an update! Neck is assembled! But not carved and radiused. http://i745.photobucket.com/albums/xx96/Untitled_Project/IMG_0111.jpg http://i745.photobucket.com/albums/xx96/Untitled_Project/IMG_0115.jpg http://i745.photobucket.com/albums/xx96/Untitled_Project/IMG_0119.jpg http://i745.photobucket.com/albums/xx96/Untitled_Project/IMG_0120.jpg The body is all glued up and after an incident with the first top I had to replace it with this one (imo; much nicer!) I'm waiting on a flush trim router bit in the mail(any day now)to cut out the body. I wish I had a bandsaw..... Since this is a compound radius fretboard, would anyone like to give me a few pointers on things to avoid, processes to adhere to etc....? Mors Phagist
Top looks nice on it. I like it when you first glue a top on and then cut it to the body. Its a good feeling when you see it start to come together.
