davtheknave
Hey guys, been visiting your site for a while now, and finally decided to join the ranks. Would love it if some of you could give feedback on the rigs I've built so far. Be brutal, be honest....hell, be BRUTALLY HONEST. Let me know what ya'll think, I'm constantly looking for feedback from musicians and fellow luthiers, so I know this is the right place. http://www.knaveworksguitars.com/upload/RedBones.jpg http://www.knaveworksguitars.com/upload/Nematode.jpg http://www.knaveworksguitars.com/upload/BrownStone.jpg http://www.knaveworksguitars.com/upload/Turtle.jpg http://www.knaveworksguitars.com/upload/WhiteBones.jpg http://www.knaveworksguitars.com/upload/Beast.jpg http://www.knaveworksguitars.com/upload/Viking.jpg http://www.knaveworksguitars.com/upload/Theron.jpg http://www.knaveworksguitars.com/upload/NightGem.jpg

sdshirtman
They remind me of some wallhangings I saw at a small town craft fair in the midwest once with plants hanging from it. They are just too brambly for my taste. The free handed router treatment looks substandard IMHO. The turtle looks like a carve top that was abandoned halfway through the build. I'm sure that there are people who would dig it (members of Gwar) but it just doesn't appeal to me. How do they play?
davtheknave
With the exception of one (the first one I built) they play and sound incredible. Realizing that I'm going for a very specific demographic (metalheads, members of GWAR, etc.) and the fact that the bunch here seem to be VERY traditional in their tastes, I wasn't expecting much in the way of positive reactions. Thanks for your opinion, I'll start hitting up the craft fairs in the area and maybe generate more interest.
davtheknave
Will commence with resizing efforts ASAP, sorry

J_48_Johnson
To be honest I'm not a big fan of them. Like one of the previous posts said, they look unfinished or "brambly" for my taste, but that's just my humble opinion. I likes me a smooth guitar! I do like, (and have used), the Hipshot Baby Grand bridge I saw one the one.
3DogNate
Looks like you are making do with really poor quality (and dull) tools, a bit "The Flintstones" looking in the carvings... not my bag. (And I paid money to see GWAR once.) Edited November 24, 2010 by 3DogNate
masterblastor
If your target is "metalheads", I'd figure out a way to add a bit more fret access. That lower cutaway looks a little shallow. I'd widen the horns and add another string too. Thanks for posting them man. They'll probaly look pretty cool once you get it dialed in. And for the record the Flintstones and GWAR freaking rock! Edited November 24, 2010 by masterblastor
sdshirtman
Nothing against Gwar. Just looks like something they could sport onstage.
jessejames
I think the "turtle" is actually kinda cool. Night gem is alright too. The rest of them I really dont care for. But you did a good job!
