Crusader Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 I haven't put tone controls on the guitars I've made so far because I never use them. I just have one volume control and one or two switches and keep it as simple as possible I'm wondering if other people have this same approach or do you think a tone pot is important? Quote
Batfink Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 I'm with you, i never used them so invariably don't put one on unless the guy ask's for one. Quote
westhemann Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 I usually don't put them in..I generally don't use them, but the one I am building right now will have one tone control and a split coil pot because I want this one to do "everything" Quote
Tim37 Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 i wired a strat pickgaurd a while back for a guy he wanted a single hot rail pickup in the bridge and a toggle to turn it on and off. thats it other than having to make the pickgaurd it was a pretty quick one. Quote
Akula Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 I dont use tone controls on guitars. However, my active bass has a tone control which I use constantly. Quote
avdekan Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 If you build the guitar for yourself, and you don't use tune controls, I think not putting one is the right thing to do. However, I would make the electronics cavity big enough to accommodate a theoretic tone potentiometer (at it's would-be place), so that if one day you will discover that you do want a tone control - you could easily add one just by drilling and rewiring.
