Donut Man
I've got this flame top allparts body I'm trying to fit a pickguard to. I've not got a pickguard to hand to mess about with to check alignment etc - can anybody with a good eye tell me what sort I might need? The problem is that the body isn't exactly strat shaped, I think, but I can't be sure, because again, I don't have an actual strat to compare it to. Thanks! Our Souls inc.
Just venturing a guess here, but the neck pocket says "lic. by Fender" so I'm thinking a HSS setup or "Fat strat" PG will work out fine. www.greasygroove.com makes every kind of PG you could think of... give em a shot. http://www.greasygroove.com/StratPGStyles.php
Donut Man
Actually, I was wrong - I have a pickguard that used to be fitted to my old MIM strat (which I don't have anymore) It doesn't quite look right though...
Our Souls inc.
http://www.greasygroove.com/Strat%20PGuard%20Flash/Strat%20PGuard%20Flash.swf play around there and see whatcha find. I think it looks kinda close, but the bottom horn is a bit fat on the allparts body.....
dpm99
It doesn't quite look right though... The colors clash. You have black against transblack and cream against white. To my eye, that's what looks wrong.
Donut Man
play around there and see whatcha find. I think it looks kinda close, but the bottom horn is a bit fat on the allparts body..... Yeah that's what I thought as well. I'm not sure what the correct positioning is as it doesn't really look like the pickguard follows the shape of the body exactly.
westhemann
It never does.A strat doesn't have a pointy horn, but a pickgaurd does...the pg matches the bevels of the body, not the outline, and yours has no bevels. If you want a pg that matches better you will have to make it.
Donut Man
On a different note - what pickguard do you think would look the best? I was considering a white pearl one?
WezV
I was considering a white pearl one? its a good choice on a finish like this. but i would be more tempted by parchment. have a look at some suhr's or andersons as they tend to do this kind of finish a fair bit

Our Souls inc.
something the color of the binding would help. shame to cover up all the grain......
