Jude
I am cutting a custom headstock from a Saga neck. I plan to fill the existing tuner holes and apply veneer prior to cutting and drilling the new shape. I need to trim the headstock to prevent it from becoming too thick. I would prefer to not remove the nut since I don't know what it is glued in with. What is the best way to thin the headstock? Right now my plan is to use a router VERY carefully. Is there a better way? Thanks
killemall8
How thick of a veneer are you using? Actual veneer is only 1/42" thick. That wouldnt add any noticeable thickness at all.

ScottR
RAD used to use a sled he made to hold the headstock parallel to his router table. You could probably make a sled to use the same way with a band saw. The sled and router table is probably your best bet for accuracy. Prostheta
I wouldn't trim it unless the "veneer" is more than a couple of mm thick.
