SIMpleONe89
Just now, KnightroExpress said: Thank you! That switch slot is the result of drilling out as much as I could with a 1/16" drill bit and then very carefully cleaning the remainder out with a tiny file. Once the bulk was out, I had to fine tune for the switch throw to work properly. After spending about two hours swearing at a small slot, I went and designed a jig to make it much easier next time Ah I did that too. It took a long time and I may also create a jig! Popular Post KnightroExpress
The limba/wenge guitar is in the happy hands of its new owner! The owner is going to work on a video and sound clips soon, though I can assure you that this is one mean-sounding guitar. As always, I'll post it as soon as I have it! Thanks for joining me on this journey...now on to the next one!

KnightroExpress
I'm slowly getting the hang of Fusion 360. It's great fun to see a 2D plan take shape, even in a virtual environment. Here's some amateur modeling/rendering I did on a V-inspired design. I haven't modeled any hardware or pickups yet, but you get the idea.
KnightroExpress
Shop access is still limited, so I'll continue to build in a virtual space. I've yet to figure out how to nicely model complex top carves and such, so here's a Tele thing
ScottR
Built that thing right out of the center of the tree, didn't you? SR
KnightroExpress
Haha yeah, I haven't figured out how to adjust the grain texture's placement in a meaningful way. Every body that I've modeled has the same issue.... it's annoying, but I'm sure I'll find the appropriate fix sooner or later.
Prostheta
Oops! I totally missed this post.... I love modelling instruments too, however there's a real limit as to how useful they are in the 3D domain. Still, preeeeeetty.
SIMpleONe89
What program is it?
KnightroExpress
Well, the utility aspect is there... I'm generating these models in preparation for an eventual (probably not any time soon) transition into the CNC world. They're totally accurate and to scale, based on my CAD blueprints. Fusion 360 is able to generate toolpaths and export Gcode, so I'm considering this a worthwhile time investment. Plus, y'know, pretty pictures. KnightroExpress
Getting some bits together for my next shop session. This will be the fretboard for the headless 8- lightly curly maple with abalone dots.
ScottR
It appears you marked everything out with a laser. The edges look cooked too, did you cut it to size with a laser as well? And I know I say it all the time, but every time I look at a multi-scale fretboard from the viewpoint of your second shot, it looks twisted. The perspective plays with my eyes, it does. KnightroExpress
You're exactly right- this is still warm, right out of the laser. With my last set of templates, I noticed that the etched centerlines were deep enough that I could get positive engagement with a feather file. That got me thinking.....could I use laser etched lines as a guide for cutting fret slots? So basically the plan is: use my feather file to follow the lines, which should make them easy enough to follow with my fret saw. I had a tester made in Richlite, which I'll be messing around with before I try it on the maple.
Prostheta
I'm guessing that you covered it with a masking tape before cutting too? Looks good. Curious to know what sort of kerf you ended up with, and whether cooking the end grain has a deleterious effect on fret retention....then again, you're cutting them deep so I bet it's all good. KnightroExpress
I'm not sure if the end grain will be affected negatively or not, but the kerf is definitely less than that of my fret saw... so yeah, I'm fairly sure I'll end up cutting the roasty bits away. I should be able to score some shop time next Tuesday, so I'm going to try it out then.
Prostheta
If they're simply for guiding then I'm sure the saw will cut deeper anyway. Just a bit concerned about charred edges and tang retention. Then again, with me that is to be expected.
KnightroExpress
Quick update: I've just received the custom truss rod for the headless 8!
ScottR
What about that is custom? SR
KnightroExpress
Ah, I suppose that's a bit of useful information to include. It's a custom length: 20" overall versus LMI's usual 18".
KnightroExpress
I've been working on a concept for another extended range build during study breaks. This is a 7 string and will incorporate some pretty interesting electronics. The extra knobs will control a Cycfi Resonant Filter circuit, which gives you adjustable Q amplitude and frequency.
Prostheta
I think you'll enjoy what I'm planning on terms of fingerboard lighting, Andrew. How are you timescaled on this one? Love those triangular inlays.

Prostheta
I still can't help but be reminded of @SwedishLuthier's Northstar signature style. I mean, you can draw all kinds of origins from either really. Regardless, I'd be able to pick it out as one of Andrew's from a lineup.
