sjaguar13
I'm trying to get the string through feurrels out. If I heat them up with a soldering iron, do I push them from the front out the back of the guitar?

Guest Litchfield Custom Gutars
What is what you do? from the front or back? I take them out from the back, as I cant see how one could get them out otherwise.
krazyderek
couldn't you use a set of fret pullers ?
frank falbo
Fret pullers-unless they're recessed. If you don't mind losing the ferrules, then you can put a screw into the string hole and thread it until it bites, then pull the whole thing out. It will chew up the hole in the ferrule, though. Well, you're best off going THROUGh the front in order to assist popping them out of the back.
frank falbo
....unless the hole in the wood is smaller or equal in diameter than the hole in the center of the ferrule. Then anything that fits will just slide right on through.
sjaguar13
So I heat them up, take a screw driver to the front and pound on it with a hammer until they pop out the back? I don't have a fret puller, but I want to get into re-fretting.

I think most people will find that the aperature of the ferrule is a wee bit smaller than the string-through passage to the top of the guitar. Of course, this will depend on the ferrule. You can always have a peek, sjaguar.
