GuitarGuy610 Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 I'm finishing up my "natural" stained strat project and I was wondering about what to use for the clear stuff. I don't have a compressor or anything so I guess it would have to be something that I could brush on or spray with a can. Home Depot sells spray laquer and polyurthane, is that the best way to go? I could hang my guitar and try to brush on either... Which way do you guys suggest? Thanks! Quote
Reaper Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 quite a few automotive stores sell clearcoat in an aerosol can... I've purchased some for my next project, but have yet to use it (can't attest to quality). Quote
Gorecki Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 reranch.com has a nitro clear coat in a spray. (Avoiding starting debates on what's best) Quote
GuitarGuy610 Posted May 17, 2004 Author Report Posted May 17, 2004 is there any difference in amount of sanding needed between coats, etc. and final look of the mentioned clear coats? Quote

GuitarGuy610 Posted May 18, 2004 Author Report Posted May 18, 2004 ok, thanks, I'll check it out. I did put a coat of minwax polyurethane gloss on by brush, but I sanded it down since it seemed to run. Do the spray cans run much? Are there a lot of orange peel bubbles? Quote
westhemann Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Do the spray cans run much? Are there a lot of orange peel bubbles? you can cut down on that stuff with practice, but you will still need to level sand and buff all that out Quote
