southpaw rocker Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 I got this Idea the other day becasue I'm always wanting to change the pickup configuration in my guitars but I hate resoldering and stuff. What if I had a jack with a two or three pin connector (hot, ground, batt. feed) in the body cavity to quick change between prewired pickguards? Kind like the EMG pickups but one step further. And where could I get male/female connectors to fit this sort of application. Thanks for your input. Quote
hy_dro66 Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 I actually wanted to do the same a while back, but I haven't because I usually keep pickups in for a long time before I try something new. I found some great quick connectors at the helicopter squad I worked but never got around to using them. I bet you could find quick connects at radio shack. You could find them cheaper online but then you'd have to ship them. Anyway, I think it's a cool idea and I hope you follow through on it unlike I. Have fun. Peace. Quote
truerussian558 Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 check a radio shack (yes it is crappy but chances are it would be there) and check your local electronics/computer store, but in theory this should be quite easy, so good luck and tell us al about it when your done Quote
nonamemx Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 You could just use 9v battery clips, just clip em together. Quote
southpaw rocker Posted June 2, 2004 Author Report Posted June 2, 2004 that's an excellent idea if I go with passive pickups. Maybe I could use two jacks and just drill a wider hole from the recess for the jack to the control cavity for easy switching of jacks along with the guards. i wonder if I could use an XLR for the active jack. jefm Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 This sounds sounds close to what I was saying in another thread I was thinking of using an RJ11 (phone jack) or RJ45 (network cable) to connect things that I may want to change.... Quote
syxxstring Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 I would check a hobby shop, they have several types of 0 loss high end connectors. Try Deans plugs for instance. Also the Deans plugs are keyed so you cant plug em in wrong.(backwards) Quote
Hotrock Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Rip a loom or the connectors off the back of a car stereo. Might work and you could change all of the connectors in one go. The usual, I don't really know if it'll work disclaimer applies Quote
southpaw rocker Posted June 7, 2004 Author Report Posted June 7, 2004 thanks guys. my car stereo needs to go soon so I can try that and I'll check the hobby shop too Quote
ansil Posted June 8, 2004 Report Posted June 8, 2004 you can buy the little connecters that emg uses. and some better quality ones at most local electronic stores..[note i said electronic stores not radioshack. ] Quote
