  1. all the info is here on the site but if your gonna use a 24.75 scale then your high e string saddle should be 24.75" away from the back of the nut hence the 24.75" scale length. then take the other side and set it back generally 1/8". Your making a very simple process extremely difficult. MzI
  2. you should burn it more and then glue it back together and finish the thing as is MzI
  3. You can get flamed maple of the eastern hard rock variety. I use that. It will have the same sound properties as unflamed hard rock so you will get that super bright with high sustain sound which is where les pauls get there awesome tone. western big leaf your looking more at a prs type sound. MzI
  4. Unfortunately there isnt going to be any flamed maple binding on this one because the complexity of the bends was too great that I kept snapping piece after piece. But there will be another with the same set up and the flamed maple binding MzI
  5. The longer crack is a single crack its just on an angle. The other problem is that the fretboard is already on the guitar but I will dry testing the clamps to see if it does anything. To me though, it does not seem like it will do anything because the fretwire is already installed and I would be pushing the wood against the opposing tangs of the fret wire, I could be wrong though. I will still try and clamp it and see if I make any progress then report back. But if anyone else has any input I am more then open to it. MzI
  6. OK, So I have an ebony fretboard on a new guitar I am working on and I was applying some finish the last couple days so I decided to pull the tape off the fretboard and scrape any excess finish off of it. I got down to the end of the fretboard by the body and noticed two cracks in the end grain. Two cracks the second one is to the left near the white spot its kinda hard to see as it is less noticeable. I checked the cracks again this morning and noticed that the right crack moved on the top from the last fret up to the 21st fret which is kind of concerning me. I dont want this to continue up the fretboard and have to pull the board in this stage of the finish top view Also the crack to the left is not noticeable on the face of the board so I am not as worried about that one as I am the other which is clearly visible. Seeing as I havent posted much on this project lately I guess I could throw up a couple pics as teasers. 7. If any one is looking for one my local shop has one for $299. Heres a link http://www.parkwaymusic.com/guitars/images/epi7string.jpg the color is kinda ugly though. MzI
  8. thats gonna be a tough one you may wnat to look for a picture off of the dean site that will be your best bet for a straight on shot. As for spline tool type in spl and draw away. also for straight lines you may want to just draw a straight line with the line tool. MzI
  9. great looking work, one question for ya, what does using the shorter scale provide for sound wise? MzI
  10. To figure out the correct angle you need to draw a full scale cross section. Include the height of your bridge off the body, your neck angle, and also the height you want of the strings off the fret board, O and also dont forget the nut cuz thats a major thing too. If I didnt explain enough do a search on it cuz im sure there is a ton of info plus a tutorial or maybe a really good thread that explains it better. gluck MzI
  11. Welcome to the life of an architect. In school we are taught to hand draw and then in the 3rd or 4th year we start using cad. Mianly because its alot faster and more accurate. That doesnt necessarily mean we dont hand draw at all. We start with hand sketching on trace and then move to cad. Personally I can design and draw faster in cad then by hand. But for curvy stuff ill still plot out 1:1 and free hand then bring it back into cad for templates and what not. another good program besides cad for curvy drawings is Rhino 3d. MzI
  12. Send me a PM I have some stuff that I drew up. I can put out a half way decent guitar drawing rather quickly when I have spare time. MzI
  13. DR makes colored strings check out their website http://www.drstrings.com MzI
  14. I use a thickness sander, i rarely use a jointer or planner because of the tearout issue. MzI
  15. I have a yamaha its not a cutaway but the sound is friggen amazing, I paid like 150 used from my local shop. id recommend checking out some of the yamahas that are cut aways MzI
  16. it looks to me like its white korina and not black, that may cause a problem if you are going to do a trans finish. I personally would go with a solid finish easier to hide stuff that way. other then that I wouldnt take off the shoulder of the guitar just the neck pocket to the extent you need to. No sense in cutting into the pickup cavity, unless its for the tenon of the set neck. MzI
  17. For Wes, ESP does makes the KH-2 as a neck thru model, in a normal finish, you just hafta ask for it MzI
  18. Basically yes. I personally would do a mahogany body over a mahogany neck though. A half maple half mahogany body would tone it down more then say a mahogany neck. Another way to tone it down is to use a Rosewood board over ebony. MzI
  19. Kirks guitars are alder with maple neck thru. There is nothing wrong with all maple guitars. They are great for down tuning because they retain that clarity you loose with warmer tone woods. Plus if you throw a set of passive mid range output pickups like paf's or 59s you have a great rock guitar. In comparison ill let everyone know how my solid purple heart guitar sounds in bout a week. 20. As long as the paint goes on smooth you should be ok. Just spray some clear over the top of it and level the clear and youll be good to go. MzI
  21. too busy right now must see Megadeth, dream theater, and symphony x tomorrow, maybe next summer haha MzI ps. o yea and i hafta meet Mustaine too while im there
  22. The upper fret ones from that webpage dont look too bad, the difficulty to me would be the lower frets from the 12th down, maybe another option would be to do a single inlay at the 12th fret and leave the rest blank sorta like the gibson gothic series MzI
  23. finally got around to doing a quick cad drawing of it, its really rough i only spent 20 mins on it. the drawing is a 24 3/4 scale with jackson style headstock. again its really rough MzI Fender guitar
