  1. 'barnack! I wish I still lived there. Brisbane has got the shittiest guitar shows in the world
  2. Depends how good you are with a spray gun. On my first bass I used more than one gallon but thats because I was sunbursting the bass and could never really get it perfect, had to redo the damn thing about 10-12 times. Anyway, if you buy a gallon you most likely will have anough left for another instrument later on. If you buy a pint and run out you'll be a lot more annoyed at having to order more.
  3. Better yet, here is a picture of my ABM bridge with the saddle and screw part in question
  4. A screw in the saddle tightens the saddle against the walls of the bridge. All you need to do is unscrew it, move the saddle in the position you want it then tighten the screw again. Just like on Hipshot A style bridges if you've seen any.
  5. Go to www.reranch.com read "finishing 101", then "gibson Sunbursts" and then "Fender Sunbursts". Have also a look at the guitars in the gallery section. You should have all the info you need after doing that.
  6. Thanks Jon. No, the laminates are straight, it's just an optical illusion because the picture was taken sideways
  7. I spent the morning making the truss rout and squaring the bottom of the neck to fit the truss adjustment nut. First pic is the markings of the hole for the nut. I obviously used my drill press to get the hole exactly where it had to be. This pic shows the hole and truss rod inserted in the neck This pic shows the neck with the fretboard on top to see the final look it'll get.
  8. +1 on the VIP badge, if ONE person on this forum deserves it it's definitely you. Got your book in '87 when I was 16 along with Bill Foley's and Roger Sominoff's those two were useless to me and must have 2 inches of dust on them by now, yours still gets read today. Sorry for stearing the thread away, just had to say that
  9. Can't wait to see that olive top since you first mentioned it last year.
  10. Thanks Erik, yeah, the cover will be radiused a tad, I'm not too worried it's 1/4" thick. Merci
  11. Progress is advancing slowly on this one. I had problems cutting the electronics cavity with my grobet saw and the lines weren't perfect so I had to do a lot of sanding to get the top wood (bottom wood in this case) to be nice enough. This pic shows the cover inside the body hole The cover obviously needs sanding too. So I've pretty much scrapped that one. Luckily, I cut the maple billet myself to make those two covers and I ended up with 5 boards so I could bookmatch the two tops. That left me with one extra board that ended up being perfect for this. Here's the picture of that. and the final result ain't half-bad either
  12. First one, 12 months. Second one 3 months because I was on a schedule. Both only had about 60 hours of work in them though. My newest is already a month into it and there's not much to show for it except some glued up parts. Why is it I spend more time reading these forums instead of building?
  13. Singaore is kick ass for parts. I was there last year and bought 3 sets of tuners and a wilkinson tremolo.
  14. I usually keep my basses at 13" wide. I wouldn't add more than 1/2" for an 8 string. The pictures look quite nice Jon, You're really going at this heavily since that white refinish just a few months ago Will the center laminates in the body be in the middle of the neck? It looks like they'll be offset towards the upper horn. I'm probably just basing this on the fact you've got a sort of neck heel thing on the lower horn so I'm a bit confused as to how you'll bolt it on.
  15. Actually that started off with "Litchfield Gutars" (without a "I" ) that got so much crap for misinformation of his skill level and had to change to just "Litchfield". Did I just open a can of worms?
  16. Thanks Jon the mahogany is brazilian. I spent the last two days just gluing stuff together, that gets long when you've got a lot of laminates to do.First pic is of the neck once the scarf was done. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/phi...loux/003005.jpg I glued both my bookmatched maple top and back with this jig coming straight out of compton "make your own electric guitar" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/phi...loux/003217.jpg I then glued a layer of ash veneer and a layer of mahogany veneer both on the top side and back side of the body. That took the whole day since I did one layer at a time, let it dry 2 to 3 hours, trimmed it then glued the next layer. (4 layers total)
  17. New link to auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
  18. Since you just started a website with intent on selling instruments I'd vote for "Dan Sorbera" as a new name.
  19. Bump. 2 days left for the auction, still no bids.
  20. After such a long time i'm finally starting a new instument. It's been a long year settling down in Australia and I can finally start working on my favorite hobby Specs, Brazilian mahogany body core, funky lookin' quilt maple top and back, victorian ash and mahogany veneer between the body woods. 5 piece maple/wenge neck with scarf joint, funky lookin' quilt maple headstock veneer, cocobolo fretboard. Pickups will be mine as usual, don't know yet which one I'll build or if I'll get a preamp in this one either. A couple of pictures of the neck being glued. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/philmailloux/181.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/philmailloux/185.jpg A picture of my 10 minute scarf joint jig. (time it took me to build) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/philmailloux/207.jpg Pictures of the scarf and gluing. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/philmailloux/213.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/philmailloux/216.jpg
  21. Thanks for the tip, locktite CA is affordable here in Oz Hot Stuff retails for $25 a bottle and stewmac won't ship CA here.
  22. You've been busy as hell, I don't remember seeing any threads of yours for months and you now have what seems like a dozen all at the same time. I notice you're using locktite CA. How do you compare it to the CA stewmac sells or the Hot Stuff CA? I assume you alo use that foam brush on the pic to spread the CA?
  23. No problem. For everyone else. The inlay video will be shipping from Boise, Idaho.
  24. Let me know if you are interested in selling any of the others By the way, where is the Larry Robinson tape located? In Oz or the US? dayvo The tape is going to the states today. I figured more people will be bidding on it over there then here so to save on the shipping my dad who was on vacation here is bringing it back to his place in the states. Same with the two finishing videos. The fret basics dvd is still in oz though. Actually if you're really interested in the inlay video and you're fast enough to answer me back before 12:00 sharp (noon) you can get that video for $50 AUD shipped to Adelaide. We leave for the airport at that time. After that then that tape will be on its way to Boise ID.
