  1. what if i build a guitar shaped like a companys logo such like the bass i am working on.... the entire body/headstalk are shaped as chevrolet logos is this in some way illegal? it doesnt say chevy nor am i trying to sell it as a chevy product... do i need to contact chevrolet and gain permission to build this?
  2. ive got a ton of gold leaf laying around so i think thats how im going to do the to but i might be interested in your help with fretboard inlay
  3. I really like the inlay idea and agree that has to be the way to go...but ive never done inlays so ill have to find someone who can help me out. I don't know if Chevy would get mad but i assume as long as i don't market the thing and just build one for my uncle than they will never know and therefor cant be angry I'm working on some scale drawings right now i will post them as soon as I'm done....so far its really hard to achieve the look I'm going for with out having a cutaway and staying with the original logo dimensions
  4. My uncle decided he wanted to get back into playing bass since he hasnt played in about 10 years and he came up with this concept and asked me if i could build it. So heres what ive got so far.... The whole top will be gold leaf Tell me what you think..... any additional ideas are appriciated!
  5. man no one wants to give props to PETER FRAMPTON or how about ZAKK WYLDE wow com on these guys had a huge impact on my playing...
  6. you could use spray cans if you know what your looking for.... they make spray paint specificaly for metal work.... black is pretty common for engine blocks and stuff so any auto parts store should carry it....and it would be high temp resistant..ha ha even though you would never need that kind of protection on a guitar. its cheap and if you know how to use a spray can it can look great! my brother and i actually painted my first guitar project with spray cans. heres a pic of it its not a very good picture sorry but it will give you an idea of what can be done with a can! 7. about how much did this project cost you... seems like an interesting way to kill some time if its not to expensive
  8. thats pretty clever i guess but imagine the crowd reaction in the first solo... or a zakk wylde style guy trying to play her with his teeth? pretty funny concept though it would be good for advertising...
  9. thanks for all the input i bought the new guitar today found this one guitar that had just what i wanted and got a great deal.... its a Martin DXME.... i went to 5 guitar stores and i couldnt find anything for close to the same price that played as well for me and had everything i wanted. still have money left over from my buget scine i paid $650 for the guitar and a case so i think ill invest in more parts for the electric im working on!!! Thanks again everyone!
  10. looks good but the placement of the pickup selector is funny might be a thing worth looking at... it looks to far forward it will be right in the path of your hand when you strum
  11. i wired my pickups with a five way switch and some how messed up and only got four selections and a dead spot im not sure what i did but i like it....
  12. I am looking at buying a new acoustic and i like to play alot of classic rock stuff but some new blues stuff too....im looking for a guitar that i can play around a campfire.... my budget is about $800 what does every one suggest... and why? (perferably acoustic/electric) if not then suggest a good acoustic pickup?please
  13. ive redesigned it since that pic but my camera is busted so it might be a while till i can update it. thanks
  14. how can i delete and or move this topic?
  15. i would go with the hard tail as well you can get some really cool styles of hard tails to achive some unbelievable looks as where you options are somewhat limited with a trem.... i would design the guitar and just see what will fit better with your over all look and feel of the design.... good luck
  16. out of cuiosity how strong of and fm transmitter should i use to transmitt out of the guitar and be able to get about 30 ft of play between myself and the stereo?
  17. i just came across this thread and wow im glad i saw it that is amazing... very cool congrats
  18. i love Black Label Society but dont know what to classify that as so i went with hardcore i guess
  19. just turned 18! legal now but now things are illegal too(kind of sucks and rocks at the same time)
  20. that seems like a fairly good combo to me.... i say go with it
  21. thats beautiful i love the top and the whole look of it....great job
  22. the GC here is just as bad you cant get any service at all i went in to buy yes buy i already had my mind made up i was torn between a martin and taylor acoustics went to the service desk for a sales rep to talk with... guess what no one there... looked for 20 mins before finding any employee willing to help me.... the service i got was just ignorance...so i drove down the street and bought it at sam ash that same day.
  23. This is my very first guitar build ever i made this guitar for my high school english project......so i call it (My English Project)clever i know The body is poplar that was originaly a shelf in my grandpas barn we worked on this together untill he had a heart attack and was put into the hospital...i finished the guitar with standard strat pickups and hardware.. In the end of the project my research had to in some way bennefit the community so i held a charity concert and raffled away the guitar to raise money for the Matt Maupin Foundation and the Yellow Ribbion Support Center... The guitar raised 1700 dollars and I got the highest grade on my project a student has ever recived.... 24. is the guitar painted or staind....... if its an solid color just fill the spot with some kind of body filler...even bondo like for cars will work...then sand it and paint it... if its a clear or varnish its tricky... ive seen it done but never attempted this myself so instead of giving bad advise ill tell you that i would look to someone else for knowlage on that.... good luck
  25. if you are going to paint it the body my suggestion is a product called kittyhair its a fiberglass filler but it works pretty well for things like this (lots easier than shims and gluing and rerouting) i messed up my neck pocket by routing it just a bit to wide and this stuff fixed it quick just fill your bad spots and sand away any excess.... but really only works if your going to paint other wise you can see it and it will look crappy under a stain next to all the grain of the wood
