  1. I chose player because I am not a Master builder. I have only completed one instrument that I did from start to finish.
  2. Hmmm... Soundcard looks intrigueing. Could you hold it for me while I research it?
  3. Hmm.... seems that between the neck and bridge pickup the body would be weaker and much more likely to snap. Also, that is gonna be a b!tch to sand.
  4. Send it via certified mail. That way they have to sign when they recieve the check and therefore have proof of recieving.
  5. You need to get hyunsu (sp?) to send ya some of his top notch flamed maple neck blanks to go with the fretboard.
  6. Pfft... all ya REALLY need is a nice Swiss army knife to whittle yourself a neck! Hehe. Personally, I used my belt sander to do the initial shaping of the neck. After that I went to rasps and files and finally sandpaper. For a first neck I think mine came out excellent. I probably won't be able to use my belt sander for my next guitar because it will probably be too long. With my bass neck the length of the belt sander was perfect; just shy of the distance between the volute and the heel.
  7. Can you take a pic and give some specs on the cherry burst body? Also some info on all of the guitar parts.
  8. Sounds like a cool project. Why not build a new body for your bass neck?
  9. Sounds like a very obscure item to me. I have personally never heard of Series10. EDIT: Sorry, I misread what you said. I thought that you were looking for a Series10 bass neck.
  10. Then what is the point of having two divisions? I thought that the "amateur" division was put in place to allow the builders with less experience to get recognition. To me the divisions indicate the quality of the guitar. I do consider Drak's work to be professional, right on par with LGM's entry for this month. I don't mean to sound like an asshole or anything, I just wanted to explain my reasoning for thinking Drak should enter the Pro division. I mean his work is simply amazing!
  11. photocopied piece of paper? No, those plans are very high quality prints from a plotter (you know, the big ass printers designed for use with CAD programs?).
  12. Isn't the wood from the roots called burl?
  13. How can you not like rock and roll but like the blues? All R&R is is a combination of blues and country. At least the older stuff is. As for my decision? Rock & Roll all the way. With R&R you got the money, the money buys the drugs, and the rock gets ya laid. 'Nuff said.
  14. I can't wait to get my hands on some crotchwood, personally... Thats gonna get me in trouble.
  15. Routing really is the only viable alternative to chiseling. If you are planning on using a pickguard then you might be able to get away with using some Forstner bits and drilling the cavity out, but you wouldn't be able to do that for the truss rod channel.
  16. Dude... that topic name is so... suggestive? Its the wood where the trunk forks. When that happens the grain gets all abnormal and you get the lovely figure.
  17. Ya Drak, you should definately graduate to the Pro division!
  18. It is kind of hard to tell what it will look like when looking at unfinished wood. Maybe you could put some mineral spirits or something on the wood so we will know what it will look like finished?
  19. Okay, I've been interested in winding my own pickups for awhile now. I wanted to ask some of you guys (or gals) where you get your coil wire, magnets, bobbins, etc. Ideally I would like to order from a suppliers who carries all (or most) of the components needed.
  20. Thats actually a really good idea. Of course, there is still the fact that we have to try to make sure people read it or at least know where it is.
  21. Certainly moreso than regular wood. Do you know what crotchwood is?
  22. Personally, I would say build your own neck if you want to do your own inlay work. Inlaying will be more difficult on an already radiused fretboard. Besides, for bout $40 or less you can buy everything you would need for a neck.
