  1. I'm cooking up a new circuit and I realised that I've got a 2 pole switch, of which only 1 pole is being used.. Sooo, with the recent interest in LEDs, I was thinking of using the remaining pole as an on off switch for an LED.. That should make it function as an on/off indicator.. Question: Quite straight forward, really.. Can I just put an LED directly in series with the switch and a 9v battery or is a 9v too much? Also, do I need a resistor somewhere? Thanks!!
  2. Check out this page from Stew-Mac.. There's a small diagram there for a blend pot, volume and tone pot circuit with 2 sources.. 2nd one from the top on the left.. Using that diagram, just leave out the tone pot and the wire connecting it to the volume pot all together and take the 'hot' leads from both humbuckers as the source A and source B.. Hope that helps!! Let me know if you need anymore help..
  3. That doesn't mean that they can't be.. Don't know why I'm so excited about that.. I think it's the coffee...
  4. If I'm not mistaken, the higher the resistance, the hotter the pickup, as mentioned.. Also, from my own inference based on my knowledge of electronics, the higher the resistance, the less highs are going to be coming through.. If someone could confirm this, it'll be good..
  5. Hey, I lived in South Africa back in '94, I think it was.. Was there for about 2-1/2 years.. Johannesburg.. I absolutely loved that country.. Beautiful.. Anyway, welcome to the forum!!
  6. That ain't no Squire no more, dude.. Nice work!!
  7. Could it be the surfaces? I know that some surfaces I've tried to solder stuff onto doesn't hold the solder that well 'cause of anti-oxidation coatings and what not.. Just a suggestion.. Small fingers are definately a plus, though.. Soldering's almost the only time I'm happy for my small hands..
  8. My dad lives near the Opera House.. I like Sydney.. And your ax too..
  9. I love your banana, Jehle!! Er.. Ok, that came out wrong..
  10. Sweeet.. Gives a whole new meaning to the term 'carved top'..
  11. Nice.. Go with the 3x3 headstock as has been suggested..
  12. I heard that dihydrogen monoxide one before.. Good laugh..
  13. Since nobody's replied yet, I'll give it a shot.. As far as I know, there is a separate bridge and neck pickup for the PG.. For humbuckers in general, the bridge usually has a higher output than the neck pickup because the amplitude of the string's vibrations at the bridge is a lot smaller than those at the neck pickup.. Hope that's right.. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me!!
  14. I like to keep my crazy wiring 'hidden' so to speak.. Have the guitar look stock but then keep one or 2 little secrets 'under the hood'.. 1) This one I'm doing on a LP style guitar I'm in the process of dreaming up.. Stock 2 humbucker, 3-way switch, 2 volume, 2 tone layout with 4 options for each humbucker: 1) series, 2) parallel, 3) north coil split, 4) south coil split.. Add the fact that you can have both humbuckers in parallel courtesy of the 3-way switch, and you've got a whole bunch of selections on a stock looking ax.. 2) I've always wanted to have an little indicator, like a small light or LED, which would change colours for each pickup selection.. Dunno, just thought it'll be cool..
  15. I'm sure anyone who has seen it will remember the freakin' Wangcaster.. That was one sick guitar.. Don't have pics or a link, though, sorry.. Check Google or something..
  16. As a rough guide, the higher the cap value, the less treble or highs you will get in your tone.. Also, the higher the pot rating, the more highs you will get.. I suppose that's why 0.047uF caps are used with 500k pots.. If you're making an LP copy, 500k pots with 0.047uF caps are a good start.. Incidentally, use metal film caps.. They last longer and (if I'm not mistaken) have a better tolerance.. As for the wires, I'd say go for the shielded, braided wires.. I've heard gauge 22 wires being recommended but I think it's kind of a trade off.. The thinner your wire, the harder it is (at least for me) to strip it but the less space it'll take up inside your control cavity..
  17. Fender SRV Sig. (which I dearly love) Strat made of used parts Ibanez GRX70 (switched out the pickups to DiMarzios.. Air Norton, Virtual Vintage, Tone Zone) Yamaha APX4A Some crappy classical
  18. Where do you find so much time??!! I mean, one sweet koa tele and a crazy cow guitar at the same time???
  19. Wow... What wood is that again? I like the rear edge, man.. Talk about unique.. Where's the strap button gonna go, by the way? Just wondering... Good job!!
  20. Did you check out the FAQ section?? That's freakin' hilarious, man..
