  1. I'm so hating on you right now! Say hi to David for me!
  2. Daniel, Outstanding build, just like all the other ones. I love quilt, and most people know it, but I think that in order to make it look the best on a guitar, the quilt need to be more small. That would had been great on one of those huge bass guitars that Jon makes. For a guitar, I think small tight quilts works the best. I don't think that maple is over done. It's just that it looks great so a lot of people wants it still. Great work, keep it up and the sky is the limit.
  3. That is what I did Wes , I can't wait to see this one finished! Great job so far! More updates please!!!
  4. Thant is what I wanted, I did the PRS style but took it one step further. I smoothed the area entirely, like Myka does on his guitars.
  5. That is what I was trying to come up with, a more acoustic sound. Definitely is what is killing the overall sound of the band.
  6. Have you listen to the Hammet & Santana instrumental in the last Santana CD? There is a similarity between them 2, just that the Santana was always bluesy and slow.http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?act=Post&CODE=02&f=15&t=38258&qpid=397484#
  7. thanks ... Maiden69 no it is not an 80's kramer .. although I've had several real nice kramers that I stupidily sold ... including that american sustainer de luxe model .... .. but this one is a "new" musicyo kramer ... plays very well since I replaced the tremolo block....big differense Is it from the cheap series they sell or the American? I almost bought one when they started to sell them, but the price was too good to be true. I miss my Focus, I think that I will get the Template to make one! I haven't owned a Floyd in more than 7 years.
  8. I like it, I'm glad that you went with the PRS style neck pocket, I did this on mine and it feels so much better than a LP. I also like this pic of the carve, it looks a lot like the carve on the PRS Santana Double Cut! That one is one of my favorites!
  9. Puall, I like the build, but I really think that the rear covers make it look cheap. I think that I have told that to everyone doing so. I rather have black plastic than a non matching back, and with the tools you have, it would be so easy to achieve. Looking forward to your next build!
  10. I'm blown away! I was thinking about making one for this winter and when I saw this thread I thought, "Oh please, not anothe cloth hanger with hooks" but holy ****, that thing is beautiful! Is that a Focus (80's) Kramer? I had a Focus 1000 back from 1988-1990, and that thing was sweet!!!!
  11. Not necessary, I paint all mine black before shooting the clear coats. I guess he did it because he was shooting toned coat (candy) . I guess if you want to do it, it's just more work for you.
  12. I have never seen this. I always paint mine, and the only place I keep the paint off is from the neck pocket.
  13. Very good finish, what did you used under the swirl?
  14. +1 Matt, about time you start to complete your builds! I'm very impress with this one, but I too agree that the point were the jack is don't make much sense to me and detracts from a perfect looking finish. One more thought, I would had use Steinberger tuners and have the tuners aligned in a triangle shape, it looks good anyway though.
  15. I became a fan of Marty with the work he did in Cacophony with Jason. I have never heard that kind of guitar playing in my life, my first speed album.
  16. Only the 1 and up, the other ones are VERY cheaply made.
  17. Where is your location? USA? You can go to a pawn shop for the Amp, I got a Crate GX-65 for cheap and I have abuse the hell out of it, 10 yrs and still sounds nice, I like it so much that I bought a MX-120. As for the guitar, the same applies, you can get a decent one if you know what you are looking for and you do your home work. One of those cheap kit guitars is OK, but soon you will feel that you did a bad choice and wished you had bought something better. I don't like the Epiphone from the ones that you posted, so my choice would be the Ibanez. As for the Yamaha, I have used a Pacifica, and I did not liked it a bit... Keep in mind that the Ibanez on the Metal pack is made out of basswood, I made kelly out of it and it sounds good, but it is very soft so you can dind it very bad if you are not careful.
  18. It is not, I still listen to everything before the Black Album. I even like some songs on the other albums, and I have a remastered copy of Some Kind of Monster that kicks ass, minus the solos, if they have added solos it would had been awesome! This new one is a lot better than St Anger musically, but I think that James sounds out of place on most of the new songs. Like he lost the touch! He has gotten to musical for this kind of music, he needs to re think the approach he is taking, because it sucks.
  19. I would like to know how that bridge keeps intonation, it looks way to flimsy. I know that Tone Pros have a 18" radius for a 7 string TOM, but on 6's all I have seen is 14" from them. I still rather file my saddles than use that bridge, the saddles don't look stable enough.
  20. Either that or look for places where they make "wraps" for cars. They take a picture of the car (or guitar) on your case, and then print the picture to scale. All you have to do is apply the wrap and then clear on top, or leave it uncovered.
  21. I still used the stand for the last bass I made and had no problems with it.
  22. That's interesting? How long did you let it cure? I've only experienced problems with the spray can version on small projects and did not let it cure well before hitting it with the buffer. I use deft for cabinets ( have for years ) and have never had a problem as well on Guitars. I do let it cure for 10 days per coat applied though. Have never had an issue. Maybe it's because I use the brushing lacquer and spray IT I usually reduce with thinner by 10% to 20 %. It flows nicely, has less problems with humidity and levels very nicely. I don't like the spray version at all though. Well I learn something new everyday. So I guess I have been lucky. I use an old automotive type gun and devilbiss touchup gun. I run about 46Lbs pressure on the touchup and about 62 lbs on the big gun. I also use a good inline moisture trap and drier as well, no problems even in humidity up to 70%. The retarder in the brushing lacquer helps with Blushing problems it seems. Must be more careful though about airborne particles as the flash time is a little longer. Just my observations over the 100+ gallons or so I've sprayed over the years. Mike It cured for a long time, I had the guitar on a rubber stand and never had a problem, then I get a nice stand with foam pads, and after being there for a few days, the paint was already eaten.
  23. Mike, the issues with DEFT are apparent when you travel with the guitar or place it on a stand with a foam at the bottom. The foam will eat the finish and the nitro will mar with the fabric from the case. All my guitars that were painted with DEFT are in line to be refinished once I get some more lacquer or decide to do it on 2K.
  24. Yes, I use Behlen, it is great! The only thing I would use other than that is 2K auto paint.
