  1. Don't Grizzly sells to Canada? They sell Mc Faddens
  2. Hey, just bookmarked the page, I was not aware that you had a store set up online! Got no money now, but I'm looking at maybe this winter to do a build.
  3. I have never used DEFT other than the spray (which I learned the hard way that sucks). Experiment with different ratios, I use almost a 50-50, for most my coats, and then after the last level sanding I might shoot a coat or 2 at 25 nitro-75 lacquer. If you can trow away that thing and buy you some good lacquer from Stew or any other place.
  4. It's a lot easier with the purfling cutter like Marcovis is doing, but I got experience using the tape, so it was easy for me to do it.
  5. Nice, I did my 7 string like that, but I had a little problem in 2 areas were the stain seeped a little into the "binding" area because of the razor cut too deep. Now I just use a 1/4" blue vinyl tape to edge the binding and then follow up like you do, either with lacquer or CA glue.
  6. I never had that problem, I always do a cycle of sand-damp-dry-sand until I get no grain to raise. Maybe that is what you are gettnig? Or just that the grain filler you used didn't like the alcohol? I would sand a little dry with 400 or 600. Remember that if you sand too hard you run into the problem of sanding thru the color and having an un even color at the end.
  7. I'm not getting what you are asking? What is your goal? What I have done in the past is to seal the mahogany and then spray with a toner coat to get the desired tone of cheery.
  8. OK, making both is rather easy. A wedge shaped shim? Harder to do than incorporating the angle into the neck pocket. There are about 3 threads pinned on the forum you posted this thread. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showforum=30 you need to make a full scale (or a drawing to scale) of the guitar to determine the neck angle. Once that is done you place the template you will use to rout the neck pocket at the angle you need. For the recessed TOM, you need to make a template that will allow the TOM to be flush all the way around.
  9. My PRS build was 1 1/2" body and 3/4" top.
  10. Warmoth will not warranty the oil either. Only hard finishes. I have 3 guitars with unfinished necks, not a problem with them yet, and they went from Germany, to MD, to Korea, to Texas and now back in MD... so there have been a ton of climate changes on them. They are all maple. Ah, and Van Halen plays unfinished necks too, if they can stand stage tours with Eddie, they will be good in my house.
  11. I guess that is now, because the 7string I ordered from then was not. And the frets were slightly dressed. I think that they are not worth the asking price right now, especially after buying my last neck from you Doug.
  12. Very nice David, I lke hoe the "j" hole aligns with the pickguard. The head stock is very "mandolin" like!
  13. well, I for one wouldn't use any lubricant on wood. If you mess up and need to refinish that lubricant will create havoc with your paint. Also the make sure that the dowel you use is of solid wood, not those cheap ones sold at Lowes made out of balsa wood. Candle wax works great!
  14. I guess I get all the reports then. I have to delete them all the time. And they go to my email address to.
  15. PG will not have the same traffic as U-G and talkbass because we are a "selective" forum. We are builders, and most of the topics and forums here are about building guitars. Those other forums are full of players. If you were a player, were would you hang out? At a forum that will help you develop your skills, get tabs, etc... or at a forum that will help you make an instrument? Now that said, I still don't understand why we are getting so much spam!
  16. Hi Andrea! Welcome to the Forum. Feel free to roam about and read all you can. And remember to always use the search function before asking questions, it is usually faster to get the answers you want that way!
  17. Very nice guitar, a toned down ESP F, I like the Japan version better than the US. Yours come in 2nd, I think that beautiful rosewood was begin for more curves... Anyway, I edited your first 2 posts for pic quantity, but the strange thing was that I only see 2 pics on your second post, but when I edited there were 5... ***... I made all links except the first and the there was no picture??? So I made all links, at least they are there now. Never mind I just click your links, the first 3 are dead...
  18. Tell me about it, 25 today, and that is only the ones reported! Everytime there is a spamer we block their ability to post INDEF, so they are not using old ID's. But I really think that we need to up the way people register to the forum. I'm in 2 other forums now, and one don't let you post until your ID is verified by email and the other one, you get the email thing and then one of the MODs will take a look at your registration, you only have access to one part of the forum while logged on until the MOD or Admin allows you to. It took 2 days for mine to be up.
  19. I never had any problem with Cratex taking a long time curing. Most of the time I sprayed it with an airbrush since I used it for shading or bursting, but I had painted 2 entire guitars with them, and as long as you have a nice solid base after the color is done all you have to do is clear. Here are the 2. Green teal with green pearl, and a gold pearl with cooper pearl burst. If you do paint it too thick and then need to sand back, yes, it is kinda rubbery. Like epoxy primer on 2K paints.
  20. Not huge, but with a good guitar you can certainly tell the difference.
  21. Modern ones do. Traditional ones do not. Google image search for 'flamenco tuning peg' for images. Re: nylon, they're nylon (= plastic) cores or entire strings, which requires less tension to tune up than steel. I just googled it, first time I seen them in my life, and in PR you can hardly find a steel string, all the acoustic guitars sold are flamenco style. I wouldn't mess with those things even if they were the only ones available in the market.
  22. Sorry but flamenco guitars don't use those pegs, they use mechanical tuners.
  23. I edited your post because the pictures were humongous and took forever to load on my PC, also there is a 1 pic per post rule on the forum (which I haven't payed much attention lately...)
