  1. Damn, I think that you will be better off with a new core. Those edges are VERY thin! And the surgery needed in the bass area... Aside from that, love the top, and that maple is A1!
  2. I finish reading that and I felt like I just entered Looking up to the pics! I think I remember that guitar from the 3 LP shaped that you were doing at the same time.
  3. A Strat is a Strat because it is a Strat and nothing more. Corvus, why is everyone talking about a Corvus, building a Corvus, using the word Corvus in a sentence. Corvus Corvus Corvus. OK I feel better now. It will pass... Corvus, a body shape for people that can't manage a more appealing body style. I bet you that one came to life when one of the LP bodies at the Gibson factory came lose on the CNC and got tore to shreds. Some abstract paint lover looked at it and said "OMG THAT IS SO INSPIRING!!!"
  4. There is no right answer. Some people do it before, and others after. It is a matter of preference.
  5. 1. Nothing wrong with going fretless. 2. I don't know about that one, how good are you as a machinist? 3. OK, how are you planning on applying a natural stain onto a painted body? Stains are design to be applied onto bare wood. Do you mean paint? You could remove the paint with either chemicals or a heat gun, then lightly sand and stain. But it all depends on your abilities. For $10, use is as a learning tool, work with it, see how the binding is attached and how it sands, use the electronics and harware for a future project. Just have fun with it, try to remove the paint and see what you end up with. If you mess it up, you only lost $10.
  6. I have used DuPont and PPG with no problem. I find that HOK and ALSA are very good but pricey. Right now I'm using PPG for my "other" hobby (car audio) and I'm doing 2-3 wet coats, cutting down with 1500-2000 and polishing giving me a very good results. I think that for guitar work, just get what your budget (or the customers) allows. It will be VERY hard to tell the difference from one brand to the next as long as your spraying is up to speed. I'm using 2 CHEAP guns (one Harbor Freight, and another from Lowes) and a guy (who has a SATA) asked me what gun was I using because of the finish.
  7. I'm with you on that one. Other color, gold maybe, would had been a better choice. Maybe adding some purfling of the same stone on the body... I don't know, there is most definitely a clash between the Limba, Gold hardware and the blue inlays. Works looks top notch, I love those inlays. Yes it is, and a nice and clean one I must say! Glad you are, nice clean looking Limba! Progress is going good, keep us updated.
  8. I like it! I think that the back looks better, but the front is nice and balanced!
  9. I thought about joining and building a guitar, since my son wants a guitar for him (all mines are right and he is a lefty), but I just did a search for Curvus, and I must say I'M OUT!!!!! Who in their right mind will build something so hideous! That thing should be in that thread floating around about the ugliest guitars ever!
  10. I'm impressed with this one so far. Nice take on the Kelly-Explorer body. Let's see it finished OK.
  11. http://guitarpartsdepot.com/ I have always bought from them. Not the cheapest but their customer service is top notch.
  12. I use a busted hatchback shock absorber and I attach the end to a table, then I can turn the guitar around.
  13. That one looks a lot like the one in Charvel's videos. But I will not recommend using the fan in that picture. You need a fan that the motor is external from the mount. (explosion proof), the gases that you paint will go thru the motor and can ignite leaving a nice fireball. Also you need some kind of filter so that you are not contaminating the environment and your neighbors.
  14. You, my friend, are too good to be human! I demand a DNA test immediately!
  15. You are right! I got confused with Pepsi One that made the change to Splenda. Never the less, Coke Zero taste is awesome, even my son likes it, and he is picky at eating or drinking stuff. I know that Diet Coke was marketed with Splenda a while ago, I think that is why I got confused too. I don't get any aftertaste with Zero, and the Sprite Zero is awesome too!!!
  16. I guess you don't eat anything BBQ'ed, since that is carcinogenic too I drink Coke Zero, made with Splenda, so no NutraSweet, but if there was no splenda I will still take the diet, rather than the extra spare tire on my waist.
  17. Looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you. I like the blue vine, always loved blue inlays!!! Have you decided what color you are painting the body?
  18. Like already posted, the headstock don't flow with the body, and it looks like you didn't took into account the length of the bolts on the bridge, since they are longer than the recess you routed.
  19. It'll be nice if you can post of it, since Scott's links are dead now, I don't remember it.
  20. +1, and I would stay away from Sanding Sealer, just use straight lacquer. I used to be a big advocate of SS but all the guitars that I have done with it need refinishing now. It is just too soft of a coat to withstand the abuse of a guitar player, even inside a guitar case it gets marred.
  21. I can't find the link, but StewMac website has a blue PRS finish tutorial done on a Tele that the back is alder and Dan stains it directly with no problem. I wouldn't recommend staining Ash, but alder should be fine. Just practice on some scraps before going to the actual guitar.
  22. Blue Matteo is fairly easy to attain, by either staining or dyed clear. From all the PRS finishes it is one of the simplest ones. http://images.google.com/images?q=PRS%20%2...sa=N&tab=wi
  23. Very nice! I like the carve a lot, and yes, you had good luck on that piece of poplar! I'm drawing up a lefty right now for my son and it might be close to what you did, but I'm without the top.
  24. Well, it does look like a Nighthawk, but the multiscale neck and the slanted bridge makes it for a more flowing design. The NH with the slanted pup only looks out of place. I do like the design, maybe slanting the neck pup the other way like Perry does will make it more appealing? I wouln't mess with the shape, I think it is perfect. Inlays is another thing, but as long as you like them (or who ever will be the owner), that is all that matters.
