  1. Many congratulations to all three of you! Welcome to Litchfield Jnr!
  2. I've had similar experience to Perry Rhoads - in general most of the knockers either can't afford one or are dealers who can't get a franchise! Now the korean PRS' are another matter altogether....
  3. Well, I've played several and own one, and have found them all - well the US ones anyway - to be extremely nice, 'easy' guitars to play. So much so, I've practically stopped playing any of my Fenders at all. I've also an LP which I bought as a backup guitar. Comparing the two directly is perhaps a little unfair, as the PRS cost about 3 times what the LP did, but for what it's worth, the PRS is more versatile, lighter, has a thinner neck and remains in tune far far better despite the fact it has a trem while the LP obviously doesn't. Cosmetically, the PRS is miles better than the Gibson, which has a solid 'sparkle finish' under nitro. Is it worth the extra bucks? Not so certain about that, but if I had to lose one of these two, it would be the Gibson on sheer playability in MY hands - and that's what it's all about really, isn't it? And if I could afford another PRS, yes I'd go collect it later today!
  4. Had one years ago on a Gibson RD Artist. Was very useable when you're a titchy bit out of tune. I noticed no lack of sustain on that instrument - but it was a standard fitting.
  5. Touch wood, (ahahaha), I've not been hit for anything that's come into me from the USA, Taiwan or anywhere else for that matter, but it's better to be pre-warned!
  6. Hard question. People tell me I'm an awesome bass player, and yes, I think I'm pretty good in the style I like to play (Who/Entwistle type of thing, like). I've found my own route to getting the kinds of technique-based playing Entwistle did, with a UK New Wave slant on it, with a bit of Mc'Cartney melodic stuff chucked in. I think I sound like me. trouble is, I earn money playing 6 strings and singing! On this, people again tell me I'm good - I just don't hear it myself!
  7. Hi - bought it at a dealer in London, but not chep (shudder). It has a small and pretty much useless built in speaker, but you need a cab as well really - it'll drive a 4x12!!! http://zvexamps.com. They're hand made, so there's a bit of a delay in orders apparently.
  8. 0.5 w into 16 ohms. played it in the shop, not at home yet - it's too late. Amazing tone!!
  9. I can imagine that - I'm just doinglittle bits here and there, and I've usually finsihed by the time I remember the camera - and then the rechargeables are flat! I'm in Port talbot on teh south Wales coast - but lived in Harlesden for a for years whenI worked up there as a computer journo. had friends in Barnet though!
  10. I'm interested to find out what kinds of people we have here!
  11. I say again - lovely work, and very helpful photography - hope it isn't slowing you down too much! (but don't stop taking them!). I didn't actually realise until the other day that you're in the UK.
  12. Bog standard - as normal, not customised at all or in anyway special - toilets are pretty standard things - and they're nicknamed a bog rather than a john. Boggs standard - one helluva guitar!
  13. Progress has been made. I've cut and glued the scarf joint to formthe headstock angle - last week I think it was (such a great memory),and yesterday routed the channel for the rod - bang on the centre line! Now, have started marking up the wood to reduce the width to the correct dimensions. Having a good think about exactly HOW I'm going to do this, as I don't have a bandsaw. I want to keep the depth in the through-neck blank so I have a parallel surface for when I glue on the fingerboard. Found an omission though - haven't got any wood the right thickness for my headstock ears...
  14. I use one of these on a strat - and may well end up fittingit into a couple of other guitars too. graphtech ghost system LR Baggs do one for les pauls as well, and also Fishman make some, but I've not used either.
  15. How do you get the hi-hat sound out of it?
  16. Nah - if you can keep angels happy, you can keep discus happy. Load of bull written about them - they're amazonian cichlids after all! For the peasants Discus are a kind of fish, and pandas are a strain of discus. This is a discus, but isn't a panda discus. I don't know, bloody guitar builders... should get out more...
  17. ditto hey Bill - you're famous! Srewmac quote you in their latest international catalogue!
  18. I can't recall seeing plans for a rhoads v, but there is someone in the forum building one who's posted some pics of his progress. Can't remember where I saw the plans - was another guitar making forum/website. Email me your address and I'll send the file to you. EDIT - cheers Meegs - it WAS guitarbuild!
  19. I do this on guitar too when fitting new strings - repeating it til it stays in tune after stretching it. I also used to use fast fret, but don't seem to need it for guitar since I been using Elixir strings.
  20. I love the bit in melvin Hiscox' book where he says most of us build guitars to play them, and that it's easier to play with all your fingers.. You can f@ck up your guitar over and over - it just costs money right? routing a finger off is irreparable, so whatever you do, think about it from the safety aspect first and primarily. Keep that at the front of your mind all the time.
  21. A rhoads V isn't symmetrical. It's teh height of the bridge that dictates what your neck angle should be - a flat bridge like, say, a hard tail strat type doesn't require any angle, but a tom needs between 1-3 or so degrees. The plans I've seen for a V suggest a 1 degree neck angle, which I think is acheivable quite easily with a neck through - especially if you cap the body with a maple top or similar.
