  1. kinda off topic but i just bought a fender mim alder strat body i was gonna use it as the fondation of my next project an eric clapton strat clone. is it that bad of a body? Adam Not really, the rest of the guitar's parts are simply not very good. The MIM standard strat (not Squire) should be real wood. But, it maybe routed poorly so be careful and measure frequently.
  2. Cheap, cheap, cheap, plywood body...the works. But for that price, can't go wrong. Even the standard MIM strats are trash so you're probably in okay shape. Expect to do a setup!
  3. It is absolutely possible for the template that is used to send out emails by the system for new account verification could contain links to forum rules and howto's within the email body. This can also be done with the template that is used to send out all topic posting notifications.
  4. Ahh, full price too! I'll forward the info, man are these things rare?
  5. That set is very popular and I like it. I use their LiveWire most of the time. Did you change the pots, or cap...anything else in the chain?
  6. Hey Robert, I'm a little hesitant but thought I’d mention I’m the admin at a jazz guitar based forum that is also the support board for a couple of home study guitar courses. As the understanding of music theory and application is considerably higher there than many places, you may want to check into it (them). PM me if you want to know more. Would rather not spam PG with other site stuff without permission!
  7. Cool! Right on! Keep me posted.
  8. Same exact thing for this guy, thanks!
  9. Hey guys, A friend of mine is looking for Cort M800 guitars (not blue) and I've exhausted my sources and was wondering if anyone knows anyone who's a dealer or knows of a dealer that has any? I believe they're discontinued. Thanks.
  10. I'm so taken back by this I don't know what to say or think. I haven't been able to get to the site all day and my first attempt this evening and this!!!!! Amazing, I got a couple of things from him a while ago, recently was going to throw away the note he wrote me (it was just a thanks sort of thing laying around) and I nearly threw it away. Now that notes three feet way staring at me and I'm kinda wierded. My interaction with Steve wasn't best buddy or anything but I really liked the guy for what little I knew of him. Best wishes to his family. I'm so very sorry.
  11. Is it one of the 335 type styles or the single cutaway? I picked up one of the 335 styles a while ago and it was an extremely poor guitar, shotty assembly, sad fret job and the stop tail wasn't seated squarely. But I so enjoy making POS's into players! Reason in saying this is I couldn't get the thing setup and in tune without a fret leveling and I expect I'll do a complete refret eventually.
  12. Yeah, when Sear's Silvertones started becoming 'a thing' I couldn't and still don't understand.....WHY? Then we throw Ibanez in to the soup, going from pretty much nothing but copies of this and that to one of the biggest guitar markets. Wish my Global became a classic so I can justify having the ugly old dog!
  13. Wouldn't buy it now, no - but I did buy one of these antfarms with strings when I was 11. I guess I'm still irritated about trying to learn to play that cheese slicer. 30 years later I still have my cheese slicer and damn glad we crossed paths.
  14. Let us know your findings, we've talked about this family of gear a few times. I have the Pro Bass unit and it's not perfect (the tuner is mind bogglingly lame) but direct digital out has been working well for me. Even expecting to use it for a couple of guitar tracks.
  15. They do have Les Paul and SG version's but yeah, the LP Jr & Special we're just fine and it would be nice if they didn't want over $700 for them now.
  16. The only thing I'm going to say in defense of these things is somewhere is a young guy who wants to play guitar and can't affort the good stuff and if it wasn't for these plywood POS's they may never get started! I'm sure I'm not the only one who's first guitar was a serious POS!
  17. Yes you are correct, but think about it. The other models have an XLR connector but I don't see how it can be 'balanced' from a two conductor signal origin. I certainly can be mistaken. I don't think there is any difference in the electronics in all models, just how they are applied. Not knowing for certain I would suspect the XLR pinouts are on the board just not being used on the 300's.
  18. As it stands right now, you can only get the electronics by purchasing the guitar. They currently aren't (or expect to) an OEM provider of the electronics.
  19. Something else that may be more helpful in understand modes is practice in hearing them. If you sit down and play along with a single note, let's say good ole middle C, walk up and down each mode using C as home. Make up melody as you go. Not flailing guitar solo's, just simple melody. IE. C major (tonic), C minor (dorian / Bb major), C minor (phrygian, Ab/G# major) and so on and you'll begin to hear the tonal qualities of these modes with practice.
  20. Hmmm...interesting wall paper he's got there. Edit: Removed pick from view as well.
  21. Well I was going to go into a rant but psw did such a great job and left very little out. Bravo Dude! Think psw was correct in saying Mr Vai is a composer. Then he makes the parts interesting to watch while being played...constantly challanging his own technique. Never seeming to be in a rut. As perscribed, full understanding of model play will take you to the next step of being able to play over every chord with constant change. A simplest example would be playing a phrase in lydian ascending and then switching over to mixolydian to descend over the same chord. It provides huge amounts of creative room and melody get's really cool after some practice.
  22. It's been done and makes a very pretty board but it's hard to work with vs others (even ebony).
  23. It may or may not take that much time, I'm usually watching a movie or a football game while doing stuff like this ( ..football seasons over) and I take my time because the end result is I won't be doing it again on that guitar for quite a while. So, take your time, be mindful, you'll get'r squared away.
  24. Yeah, not really. It will still slip on the nut and also string tension would be spread out all over the place where with the locking nut, the nut is the stopping point...no movement. Those are great tuners but not for a floating trem.
