  1. i wondering if anyone owns a B.C. Rich acrylic mockingbird or Warlock. how heavy are they and how well do they play. I'm thinking about gettting one for my next guitar and i want to know if there are any special pros and cons that I should know. thanks.
  2. So where's the center of gravity in a Firebird style body (my next project) . Is that neck heavy? just wondering because I've never thought about balance because I've never played a guitar that was neck heavy.
  3. Here's a pic ....and another pic... Another pic. w00t sorry it took so long. BTW, does anyone know if the regular Studio has the '59 profile or a 60s profile? thanks. as you can see the hole was hand routed butit won't show under a mounting ring. I've already drilled the holes for the mounting ring.
  4. nope sorry, it's a righty. i'll try to get pics up as soon as i can. i'm really busy right now. I can also throw in an earvana nut for the LP and a couple sets of strings if anyones interested.
  5. your not the only firebird lover skibum. i love the shape. anyone seen GMP's firebird style guitar? I like theirs becasue it has more color options and better pup configs (in not really a minibucker fan) I think my next project will be a firebird style guitar.
  6. so you were looking for the gibson lp goth... i see now. The neck is the thicker profile ('59 rounded?) and it's too big for my hands but I like the way the body it sits against me so i can play more off the hip.
  7. It did rout the hole. it was hand routed but it won't show under a mounting ring. it's an epiphone. i thought only Epiphone made the goth and Gibson made the voodoo.
  8. I have a Lp goth i'm trying to sell. The guitar is disassembled but I have all the original parts and they will come with it. I gutted it out to rout a third humbucker in the middle spot. it has a couple of pick scratches but it was barely played. I can post pics if anyone is interested. I'm asking $320. for an extra $40 i'll throw in a SKB hardshell case. i'll pay for shipping depending on where you are.
  9. fender is like a disease, they take over everything. They even own Sperzel, but do you see sperzels on strats and stuff? (not to my knowledge)
  10. I own a 1992 Maxima with almost 200,000 miles on it. it's fast but it takes awhile to get there. I love it so much I've gone through 3 trannys (and i don't abuse it!) I think you should carrieburst yours, litch
  11. definitely change the pickups. who cares what it looks like as long as it's got EMG's in it! and i kinda like that SRV worn out strat look. i wish i could do that to mine.
  12. now that this is dug up, I was actually going to post a poll like this. I think neck throughs and the best for transfer for tone and energy but bolt ons offer more interchangeability (i.e. when you want a scalloped neck or you have a vintage truss rod that has run out of turns. It really doesn't matter THAT much but the neck guitar that I build will be a neck thru.
  13. thanks. it was bugging me as I think i'm gonna get a jackson in the near future.
  14. I kind of fall in between because i use a hybrid AVT 100 with an occasional stomp box but i like tone on the amp so much i don't really need a stomp box. i have three electrics (two squier strats, one LP goth) but they're all disassembled for one reason or another.
  15. does anybody know what the difference(s) between a Dinky and a soloist are? just a unimportant question but it's bugging me.
  16. I'd have to say flea. Anyone heard of John Cooper of Skillet?
  17. I think the wood selection is highly overrated. I heard it said some where and I really agree with it. They said that no matter which woods you select the electronics provide the majority of the sound. I have a LP goth (mahogany/alder) and a squier strat (agathis) and if I posted sound clips, the only difference you could tell between them is the pickups. I choose to work with maple becasue it's easy to work with, a hard wood, and can be used for bodies, necks, and fingerboards, and is also pretty cheap. that's my .02
  18. that V looks like a jackson RR knockoff especially with the pinstripes. not bad though.
  19. I'd say go with a bigsby, an earvana nut, and sperzel locking tuners or maybe planet waves locking tuners. that's just me but i'd stick with the bigsby in any case. My project will have a wilkinson trem, graphite nut and sperzels (all black.) but anyway the decision is ultimately yours.
  20. I bought a wilkinson tremolo for my guitar project and I was wondering how to install the studs that the tremolo pivots on. any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know where I can get a blade switch cover for a solid body guitar if you know what i'm talking about. Thanks.
  21. Just an update.... It's been so humid here that i came home to a body with seams pulling apart and had to draw them back together with a wash cloth. i'm eager now to get staining so i can seal this thing up.
  22. engineer meant well at least. i wouldn't use the scraping technique on a natural faux binding like that but you were on the right track as far as regualr binding goes. somebody correct me if I'm wrong but isn't scraping what gibson used to do to virtually all their guitars?
  23. i got pair of samshins that came out of a Washburn BT. I'll sell em for $20 (plus shipping. there medium output (8.4 Kohms) two conductor.
  24. here's the link for that TL60... http://www.carvin.com/guitars-in-stock/big/65832b.jpg
  25. ironically, my inspiration for this guitar is a carvin TL60. there was enough left of that quilt maple to do a second top. i haven't seen that one yet as my friend whose letting me use his shop tools has that one and i haven't been back since we glued that one. the body has now been sanded to 320(wet) and is ready to stain.I've found a couple cans of minwax stain but I'm still experimenting. i want to do it as natural as possible but i want to see the quilt and not sqwiggly grain lines. Thanks for all the compliments. After seeing this body i've had some guys ask me to build them a guitar!
