  1. Ok, so I'll tell. Her name is supposed ly Dolly (right....) and she works for a modeling agency owned by a guy named Matt. No link will be provided.
  2. Jimmy Pace has a DC model. It was used for open G (In My Time of Dying) and DADGAD (Kashmir, Black Mountain side). I am sure he used it for other things as well. As far as specs, they ALL were 25" scale (even reissues) and had aluminum nuts. The pickups were called "lipstick tubes" because Nathan Daniels got the original housings from a lipstick manufacturer. The bridge saddles were rosewood, and deadened the tone a bit. The reissues had a 6 saddle brigde on some models and this bridge is available from brian. It will also fit an original. As far as weight, I had a silvertone, and it weight about the same as a JEM. I have a doubleneck that is 13 LBS., not the lightest guits anywhere.
  3. The only difference between a good carpenter and a great on is that a great one knows how to cover up his mistakes. Looks rather classy to me. BTW what besides a Phat Cat are you runnin for electronics?
  4. Firsttime I haveever seen one of those. I still prefer clamps. Then you can control all the pressure
  5. sounds like a 45 degree angle clamp. Not the right tool for the job
  6. Gibson explorer Kramer USA Jackson USA None of those were scarf joined. All were angled, 6 in line, and the srings agle away from the nut.
  7. Sorry if I confsed you, later in my statemnt I notedthe justification for having that many claps.
  8. Listen to what danno said. You will inevitabley screw it up like that. Also, if youwant to do itlikethat, get a bittom bearing template bit. THEN cut form the back. Otherwise the "no margin for errors" becomes a guarantee for them to happen PS. Pine is not reccomended for a body. Hell, I dont reccomend it for anyting but firewood
  9. At this moment I dont give a tinkers damn if that was serious sarcastic. First of all, in my experience, even S4S wood needs to be planed/jointed on the gluing surfaces. Secondly, $50 worth of clamps? Ok, I buy 6" cabinet clamps for around $6 to $8, and 36" ones for $8 to $12. I have 2 36" ones. Dont need more. The things are cheap. I have used shrink wrap before, and it did adequately for the few times I used it, but wasted manhours and security are justification to go spend $15. And in all seriousness, your "tricky clamping thing" or whatever, seems to be rather time consuming and inaccurate. Buy some clamps. You wont regret it. Deep jawed C clamps are indespenible as well.
  10. yeah that sounds great...anyway...you need to have the surfaces jointed properly..."squeezing" the crap out of it will force too much of the glue out, causing a dry joint And obviously, it is not a solid glue joint if you can move it when it is drying. That tablesaw idea wasnt too great either. Go find a cabinet shop or friendly furniture maker if you cant afford the right tools. Or dont do it. I have learned that even if it looks decent and all seems well, there is a right tool for the job. If ya aint gonna do it right, dont bother.
  11. Here is my 2 cents: The original Fender Broadcaster prototype was pine bodied. It resides in the Smithsonian Institute, without string tension. Ever wonder why ash was used forthe first production? Maybe because pine didn't work out well. There are things called tonewoods (ie. ash, basswood, maple, mahogany, and on). They are called tonewoods for a reason. There are reasons you rarely to never see softwoods used for guitars. And really soft hardwoods like balsa. Ramparts has a whole page on this. Research a little. Oak is considered an alternate tonewood. It is bright like maple, but requires so much pore filling it is rarely used. Cherry is also, and I really dont know why it isnt used more often. I am getting tired of at least once a week seeing this question.
  12. They were actually poplar framed with a poplar block in the center for the bridge. The new ones I dont know about.
  13. Cad software in my understanding is designed for CNC machining. Routing templates are a better bet.
  14. Amen to that. The best wood is the stuff that isnt just nicely figured, but uniqely figured. PS. How much is in that $ wise?
  15. I'll have some flamed drop tops up in around 2 or 3 weeks.
  16. One piece is more asthetally appealing to me Scarfjoints are reportedly stronger, and cheaper.
  17. Can you geta really good pic of your neck joint for me? Looks fabulous.
  18. Yes, he is also a member of the forum.
  19. Short version: Ed Roman is actually a pretty good guitar builder that also happens to be one of the biggest pompous twits on the face of the planet. He's a loud-mouthed, hypocritical, fake-building leprechaun. He's a good builder, but his twitness outweighs anything he could ever build. But really it'dbe better todo a search on it than hijack a thread.
  20. Mann Made are good if you can splurge for one.
