  1. nice job, it's really interesting I have a question: these "wings" are glued, nailed, or they are set-on? you can remove them? I was thinking in a travel guitar, similar to that silent acoustic guitars, with wings like yours, to make the guitar more compact. well, id'like to see them.
  2. well, I was a little bury, and I passed some weeks without checking this forum... and now the little baby is born! it's very beautiful, congratulations man! we always became a kid when we have a new toy!
  3. well, it's really interesting... what you call "very ugly" i would have called "my best"... but usind a ribbon is interesting, it's what's they call "finishing". you cover the ugly parts, and prtoect them, 'cause it's a sensible part. it works like a pickguard, who protects the wiring of a guitar, and allows fixing the pickups more precisely.
  4. man, it's incredible how the colors of the wood changes with the finish... it's always an unexpected reaction (for us, not for the professionals...) it became very dark, but it still beautyful! and the case is very nice too.
  5. very nice! it looks great with the knobs. how it's fixed in the body? there are some screw, or what?
  6. really interesting this batteries. i can see that this electronic part you uderstand very well!
  7. man, this tuner is really amazing. but i have to tell you... I have no idea how it works! you put the ball-end of the strings in the neck, right? and how you tie the string in this tuner? It's possible to do many turns on it? Or you have to pull the string before start tuning? (can you understand my doubts?) the body looks really nice too. I'm waiting to see how the Gt2 will look into it! well, I'm waiting for news!
  8. nice job! and thanks for posting the photos!
  9. Well, I built a tele in the last year. I'm not a luthier, it was my first try. the photos are on my site (www.kiyoto.xpg.com.br/telecaster/). the text is in portuguese, sorry, but I think the photos can help you. if you need to understand something, just ask me and I'll try to help you!
  10. thanks man! not only the smell, but the taste... it's so peculiar, when you're sanding it. you breathe the powder, and feel a taste in the tongue. the cespanish cedar was really rose (like its name in portuguese, cedro rosa) before the finishing, but after it became really caramel. I didn't expected, but i leked it anyway! to all the others, thanks for the helps and the commentaries!
  11. man, that step-by-step of the headpiece is amazing! nice photos! i never worked with metal, only bought the hardware... maybe someday I'll try to make, it's really interesting. and it looks really nice to me, but I don't understand much of metal working... and about the carnival, well, I was here, but I don't like the party too much. I spent the holyday with my girl, and It's enough to me waiting for the next steps!
  12. hi julian... very these photos! I saw you used that metal pieces to screw the neck (I don't know the name, here in brasil we call "bucha"). it's very goos, when you're making the guitar you have to set the neck many times to check millions of things, and put it off all the time (mainly if you are unexperienced). I was afraid of overscrewing (this word exists?) my tele neck. i was advised to use one of these pieces, if there was any problem... but there was no problem =] have you decided the finishing you'll make? I hope you're thinking in let the wood appear, because that jacarand strip is so beautiful... well, buen trabajo a ti amigo (y perdona si no escribo bien ni el ingles ni el espanol...)
  13. I didn't understand, it's out of the axis because you did it alittle wrong, or the wood has curved after you did it? if it's the second option, i reccomend you to do another one, with a dryer wood. if it's the first option, maybe you can use this neck. well, there's an importante thing to think about: you think you can make another one, better? and all the other parts? it's your fistr try, or have you done another ones? in my opinion it's not so bad. but I'm not so experienced, I'm only starting in the guitarbuilding...
  14. hi neighbor, saludos desde brasil! pretty interesting project! the body looks very good, I'm waiting for news. I'd like to built a travel guitar someday, similar to tyours. but i was thinking in a built-in-amp, with a few efects inside. hasta luego
  15. well, I did a 1 piece neck, but not of maple, it's in pau-marfin, that it's a bit similar. with a skunk stripe of ipe. It was my first project, so don't take it so seriously, but i believe it can be useful to you. in this page are all the information about, the plans, the gears, etc. http://www.kiyoto.xpg.com.br/telecaster/ but it's in portuguese, sorry. this is the link directly to the neck part: http://www.kiyoto.xpg.com.br/telecaster/ex...ecucao_bra.html that in portuguese we call "braço" (arm) inspite neck. If you have any doubt about anything in my project, ask me, and I'll try to explain it in english! I created a topic to my tele, it's here: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=34282 I think in the martin koch's book "building electric guitars" there was something about this kind of neck, I'm not sure. I hope it can help you!
  16. well, I always though like this too... "I though one piece" was neck and scale toghether... but we may be wrong, I don't know edit: well, in this topic he agrees with us: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=34302
  17. well, I'll try to help. I only built one guitar, but like you, I started from the very beginning, knowing nothing. you said you didn't find that book they recommended you. I'll recommend another: "building electric guitars", by martin koch. I saw it on sale at amazon a few months ago. I used mainly this one, and I think it's great. he's a german, but the book is in english. the author has a website, www.buildyourguitar.com, with some articles. it's very interesting. I recommend you to take a look in all building process you found (an there are many in this site). You'll see that there are many ways of doing the same thing, it'll help you taking decisions. if you want, you can se my guitar too. the link is below, in my signature. I created a toppic for it, in the done projects area. it's very that you have the basic tools and people to help. in my case, I "borrowed" an wood workshop, and I had a great help from the woodworkers. well, some tips for you: - try to choose an easy project. an existing guitar, but without complications. do not make curved top, binding, inlays... (i made a telecaster because it's one of the easiest guitars, and 'cause i love it). - if you're going to make a new project, make it based on an existing project. - tune-o-matic bridges are easier to get wrong... mainly, fender gears are more flexible, they are designded to have more setup range, you don't need to be so precise. - make an bolt-on neck (screwed-on? i don't know the name), not the glued neck... weel, it's my tips for you... possibly someone can give you differente ones, you do what you think it's better sorry for my english, I still studing this language... and show us your building process!
  18. well, it's a great job! beautyful guitar... and a very inetersting project. thanks for sharing the photos!
  19. nice! the neck will be set on? (screwed on, I don't know the name exactly) and you designed the wiring cavities? where's the jack in? and take care with the tune-o-matic bridge, it's a bit hard to install... and bring us news!
  20. very interesting... new photos? why the body is so thick? or it's just small? you'll made a curved top?
  21. thanks for helping! good to know thats pau marfin is called like this ein english. this name for cedro is the scientific name, it isn't? if I knew them, there would have no problem...
  22. nice job, man! i liked, thanks for sharing! I liked the depth of the headstock, it is good being lower, because it pulls down the strings better...
  23. man, it's great! I'd like to make one rick for me too, in the future... can't wait to see more photos! thanks for sharing the photos and the "secrets" of yours!
