Stetsbar - A Surface Mount Tremolo

Hi, I have just started making my guitar- it is a Les Paul, and it has been designed around using a stetsbar. I have only heard great things about them so far. Kevan, could you please tell me how much sustain is lost? I mean, is the efffect as per anoth other tremolo equipt guitar (with strat-type spring set up) or should I expect something major? I would go for a crybaby- they are very easy to mod to suit your own perticular taste (and fun to do) You can pick up secondhandn ones farily cheap too Luke

Hi, You know, I know its not one of your options, but... Have you considered Salmon Pink? (The Hank Marvin colour?) If you dont know it, its not pink per se (well, it's more of a red varient), but its a very nice colour. It would look killer with vintage gold harware, and a white (although not pearloid) scratchplate. I know it wasnt an option, but hopefully, some food for thought. Luke

Hi, They were always advertised in Guitarist magazine in the mid ninties. They were ESP's 'Squier'. I thinkthey later became the LTD models, before the LTD models became the 'standard' model. They were around 500 pounds each, if I recall correctly. I have never played or owned one (I'm in Australia) but I definately remeber contemplating saving up for one (unsucessfully) around that time. From memory, the ads were placed by a UK shop called 'Percy's. Hope thats some help, Luke

Having absolutely NO IDEA about the style of guitar you are wanting to build, what music you play, or ANY information, Melvyn Hiscock suggests that Mahogany is a good choice for a first time builder. The above isnt advice, just an answer to what you have posted. Please share more info, thjen more complete advice can be given. luke

HI man, I think your guitar looks really great- its a very cool concept, melding the two designs together. Without being rude, if I could offer the following.... In your avatar, the 'bocaster''s pickgaurd is curved between the pickups (like a tele's is) (on the bass side of the strings); just like a telecaster. On your guitar, the pickgaurd is 'straight' at this juncture. Honestly, I think the curved pickgaurd *REALLY* makes it- I think you have done an outstanding job, but i really think that subtle hint of tele-ness would make the guitar 100 times more beautiful. I am not sure if I have explained what I mean correctly- please dont hesitate to ask if you want any clarification. Great looking guitar, Luke

Hi, Sorry, Im a bit confused... Are you talking about an effects loop? Or using a rack mount power amp, without a preamp? Time based effects are generally used through the effects loop- but thats AFTER the guitar signal has been 'processed' through the pre-amp. I dont know about any possible damage in my latter senario, but i can almost guarantee bad tone... Luke EDIT: In regards to your death metal pedal, have you tried using it with your clean channel? If using it with your dirty channel, you will only get more noise (becuase you cant turn down the distortion on that pedal, I think). I think that could be the problem- maybe try the pedal over a *REALLY* clean, clean, CLEAN tone. That pedal also has a fairly good eq set up- have you tried messing with it? Luke

I use this tone alot, but I use my neck pickup. I read somewhere that the *correct* way to get the woman tone is to use the bridge pickup, with the tone rolled down. I preffer using the neckpickup- I use it alot for solos (woman tone or no)- I find it a much more responsive pickup to use. Luke

To state the obvious... 1. If it worked at all, it MUST be right (it would not have worked otherwise). 2. If it is no working, power is not getting to all relative points. If you are SURE that nothing has changed from the original setup, I would definately try a new battery (as you have said). Please let us know how it goes. Luke

I really like it! To my eyes, all the design aspects are in proportion. I think it is a very cool looking, original guitar. It reminds me of the Patrick Eggle Berlin guitar. Very cool- congratulations on such a great first result! Luke
