  1. Just curious....how long ago did you find out about this assignment? Good Luck Steve (the post above was added to for emphasis)
  2. What I used after the swirl remover was 3M hand glaze, not the performance finish. Sorry for any confusion. Steve
  3. Just the one time.....it looks slick and wet. After that I used some 3M performance finish. Looks real nice, not a contender though. Steve
  4. Go here http://www.tylertool.com/januaryclearance.html Here's the coupon code.....tt010909 They have a Milwaukee 2 1/4 HP for $124 with two bases. I got the Bosch JS5 5.7 Amp Orbital for $63 today Steve
  5. What did you use up to that? I just finished one with a Maguires swirl remover and it turned out great. I went to 12k with micro mesh and I used a soft cotton cloth dipped in mineral spirits to apply. One application for this one. Steve
  6. I agree....i have built two telecaster style guitars, nothing fancy, but the people that have played them are pretty amazed it came out of my garage. they cost around 550 each without labor, and they're pretty twangy.....love 'em. Have fun with your project(s).....(it never ends once you start). Steve
  7. How would I know?? How would any member of this forum know?! None of us has graduated from the program ... we're all still addicts. Amen Brother Today it was only about ten steps to the mill door Steve
  8. What is your application method for the finish. Any spray equipment available? If so, you can mix some dyes with the clear coat. I haven't done it myself, but I have read about doing that here. Steve
  9. im lucky enough to live near a very very large lumber place that has about 20 pole buildings 1 building for each common wood ie cherry , maple , oak ect . and then 1 more building maybe 40 ft by 100 ft of just exotics Where is this mill......I want to move there
  10. Hi u6, and welcome here. If you have, or have access to a drill press this works pretty slick....you'll need a piece of wood attached to drill press table, drill the holes from the front about one half inch deep (as suggested, a brad point works best) when they all are drilled, take your body off and drill an one eighth inch hole into the wood you put on the table and insert a one eighth inch dowel. You then flip the body over and put the dowel into each of the holes you drilled to line up the rear holes. I got this from another forum so I can't take credit.(Thanks, Ron Kirn) Hope this helps. Good luck Steve
  11. If the finish under the white seems pretty firm, maybe try some masking tape to see if you can pull it off. If the paint is pliable this might work. Try a smallish area first. Good luck. Steve
  12. I used to do the same thing.....looking for the 'best deal' on each part, and it will eat up the $$ with shipping charges. I ended up talking to a local music shop owner where I live and he gives me 20% off on all AllParts items. Also check for a near by saw mill. I got a slab of maple 7 ft. x 17" x 2" for just under $100. I think you would be better off with one source as well. Good luck! Steve
  13. Cool.....I'm not the only one. Steve
  14. I got a 22mm brad point that fits an electrosocket perfect and that's all I use that bit for. I got a cheapy bench top drill press, but it works fine for what I do, worth the 60 bucks. Steve
  15. try this, there is a real good drawing there http://www.tdpri.com/forum/telecaster-disc...-blueprint.html Steve
  16. This is the first one I did with a solid Maple body.(It's not a very good pic) This has a bright tone to my cloth ears. I used Fender C/S Texas Specials for pups and a four way. It's got plenty of twang. I have another one piece I just finished, it's a real mutt I screwed up the finish on. I haven't even got strings on it yet, but I can post a pic if you want to see it. Steve
  17. How far did you go with the micro mesh? 12000 with some soapy water leaves a real nice finish. That's what I used after some recommendations from other members. Steve
  18. Can you use mineral spirits with the micro mesh? Steve
  19. I'm getting close on this tele mutt body. I've sanded to 2500 and the finish is looking pretty nice...for a mutt. I have 3 rubbing compound type products and would like to know what order I need to use them or if i need to use something additional or somethinf different. They are, 3M imperial hand glaze, 3M performance finish and turtlewax polishing compound and scratch remover. Thanks for any advice. Steve
  20. +1 on the amber tint. I'm doing a tele mutt (as in mistake) and am wet sanding, I can really see it when I wipe the spirits off between dipping the sandpaper. I've never used the water based so I can't speak to that. Steve
  21. Will I encounter any problems? Or is there something different I should use? Thanks for any help. Steve
