  1. Also my acoustics sound really good in the youth building at my church which is pretty small and has a hard floor and reflective surfaces covering 90% of the walls.
  2. Welcome to the forum! Feel free to ask any questions you have, and make liberal use of the search engine as there is tons of knowledge already here.
  3. I play in my bathroom in front of the mirror, no not so I can look at myself (I'm not that vain) but because acoustics (guitars) sound really really good in front of the hard surface of the mirror in the small reverb chamber of the bathroom. I *wish* I had an acoustically perfect room in my house to play in, I've played in some nice studios and the difference is night and day. I would play my electric in the bathroom as well, but I'm not lugging all that equipment in there. But the acoustics of the room definitely make a difference in electrics as well, just ask any recording engineer why they record the amps in acoustically perfect studios.
  4. http://www.watlow.com/ They were around $130 each for 5"x35" size.
  5. Or you could use the silicon heating pads. I just got mine in. I have not used them to bend any sides yet, but they heat up very quickly and evenly.
  6. Most people like actives for high gain work, and passives for more mild stuff. But I find myself taking down my EMG equipped guitar and playing just about anything on it, ditto for the passives, so it's all up to personal choice. I'd say go try out many guitars in the store that have active and passive, you'll hear the difference real quick.
  7. Build looks great, not so sure on the finish. I think a nice vintage sunburst ala fender would fit this guitar perfectly. The fingerboard looks so finished and clean with the inlay but the body looks so raw in contrast and IMHO doesn't work as well as it could. But thats just my opinion, beautiful guitar you've got there.
  8. Side bracing has been glued on since that picture. More pictures will be up by the end of the day. We are building a side bending machine, just ordered the silicone heating pads, it will be ready for the next guitar.
  9. The lining is the reverse basswood from stewmac, and yeah my brother is a professional photographer so you can easily tell which pictures I take and which ones he takes.
  10. It's since had the side bracing glued on and the back is braced ready to go on. Note the extra internal block for the output jack.
  11. Sorry I haven't updated this, haven't had much time to goof off lately as I've had tons of work. It's almost done, just the top needs to be carved than it's off the finishing booth. I have some pictures on my camera, I just need to get them off. Will up updated shortly with pictures. I'm also working on a wenge/quilted maple in this same body shape for the same guy, and now it's looking like this swamp ash guitar will be a shade of red and the maple guitar will be blue.
  12. Sorry haven't updated lately. Been busy building you know The box is almost closed (will be by tomorrow) and the neck just needs carving/fretwork. It's coming together very well and should be a beautiful guitar.
  13. Very nice indeed. Thats one of the nicer tops I've seen. The figure on it just seems to work for me.
  14. I do that too, but since the picture he posted didn't including the entire neck I just offered an alternative.
  15. ding ding ding we have a winner. They changed this in a forum update some time back. You need to check that box for a copy to be in your sent folder.
  16. Well you have a very nice strait on picture right there. Just blow that up to full size (work off of one dimension you know, ie 16" lower bout) and print it out.
  17. This is so true. One of my friends has a fender bass who's output jack was very corroded and cut out constantly so I replaced the jack as a favor. Except now a few months later the active circutry is toast and fender wont take it because a "none authorized" repair man replaced the output jack. I read through the fender warranty documents very carefully and I'm appalled. They cover almost nothing, and have loop holes to get out of anything.
  18. I was just saying that you can get the feedback with either. I was referring to the full archtop/acoustic feedback that is not the good kind.
  19. 1. Whats wrong with the posters above me? Don't like their answers? 2. It won't sound "incredibly cheap" as stated by the previous posters the difference is almost non exitent. 2.5 I have no problem getting harmonic feedback with my solid guitars with pickups mounted directly onto the wood. The type of hollowbody feedback you would get is *not* the good kind.
  20. That is so awesome! Thats the single most funny guitar related thing I've ever seen. I'm building one for sure.
  21. Are you being serious? Knowing Wes, I'd say yes he is serious.
  22. I really like the sound of the seymour full shred set, but lately I'm leaning more toward EMG models.
  23. The shaller M6 mini with ebony buttons are only 170 grams, the lightest I've found. Plus they are as good as it gets on quality.
