  1. If you're not too worried about a reference from them, then tell them to kiss your ruby red ringhole I hate companies like that. I remember once having a bollocking for being lazy and not working (when I was actually changing something - it just looked ike I was doing nothing) and then in the same breath he asked me to do overtime
  2. Just a quick note on using household oven for scentific tests: THEY DON'T WORK The variation in them is too great and the range of temps in the average household oven goes up and down too fast to conduct a proper test. A while back (back in the uni days) I was creep testing the glue that they stick plane wings on with. I designed and constructed the jigs, test machine, data capture and environmental chamber (or oven to those in the know ). After mapping the temp variation in the oven over a given time, it was clear that due to the heating element and the properties of the thermostat, you really couldn't get anywhere near decent results. I'm not saying that the experiment is wrong, I'm just saying that for an experiment, household ovens are crap (I had to rip out the whole control system and replace it with something a lot more responsive. Kaj
  3. I have a book on British Wildlife, that's pretty interesting. Got quite a few book about Quantum Physics too, they're VERY interesting. Tell you what, I'll swap all my books for it
  4. See all those building sites in the middle of Nottingham..... They're mine they are (The old sorting office, the old telephone exchange & the two new BIG student accomodation blocks. My old house mates lives there now, he's a bit handy on a guitar. My bro used to live there too.....& a few of my drinking buddies used to go to uni there. Never know, next time I'm down I might pop in. What's that over there............I think it could be the topic. I think I'll head back towards it
  5. I've got a few points to make on this one.... 1) If you're trying to make your own, I think you are going to have a MASSIVE pain in the arse trying to drill down the length of the dowel and trying to get it all square. 2) I don't know how much they are in other countries, but I'm in the UK and got mine from Axminster for £10 including 4 sets of sleaves. Idch - Hopefully I'll be stopping over in Paris on my way to Chamonix later this year. If you're anywhere near either of these and you want me to bring some cheaper supplies from the UK over to you, then tell me closer to the time and I'll see what I can do . You'll have to remind me though, too much means that my memory is a bit Kaj
  6. You can definately get it, but what size you can get it is a mystery. Scroll to the bottom of: http://www.touchstonetonewoods.co.uk/ttwp1.html And then somewhere near the top of the screen is Ebony veneer (2mm thick)
  7. I asked this very questions a very loooong time ago. If I remember, it was said that it needed to have pressure to force the dye into the wood as well. Either way, I was advised that it couldn't be done at home I wanted to dye mine blue You could of course put the dye in the wifes steam iron and heat and pressure it in that way (j/k, it'd probably explode). Can't you use a really dark wood (like ebony) vaneer? I'm sure a man of your calibre has already thought of that (being blatently obvious) but I thought it was worth a mention
  8. That tuner looks a bit for for the holes Someone (Curtis P I think) had some quite good results using brasso (brass pollish that comes on cotton wool type stuff). He used it on the back of a neck to make it smoother. WARNING: Get comfirmation before trying this as I wouldn't want to be responsible for anything happening to that lovely axe of yours.
  9. Where abouts in Sweden are you?
  10. If you go and have a look in the for sale section, then silvertonessuckbutigotone has got one for sale. He might be in the US but it might end up cheaper.
  11. Coooooollllllllll You could mount several different colored led's and have them rotating on a little ring inside the guitar (through the light box) so that they all flash different colours. Just kidding by the way, that would be a stupid idea. Any chance of doing up a tutorial while you're doing your next one?
  12. Wouldn't swapping a trem for a hard tail have neck angle considerations? Just thinking out load here.
  13. It's a week tomorrow. Tell you what, carry on as normal and once my money is in the bank I'll post here to see if you have any more left. I don't really like to have things sitting waiting for me as something normally eats the money before I get chance to take it where it's going. Good luck dude. Kaj
  14. I'll have one. Can you hold fire until payday and I'll transfer the money straight into your account? Also, I'm kind of on the hunt for a warlock bass neck for my bro. Got any? Kaj
  15. My all time favorite is probably "Lucille" http://www.gibson.com/products/gibson/Classic/Lucille.html This is the guitar that, one day, I'm going to build beter than the original. It's the guitar that tempted me to make guitars.
  16. Well, you learn something new every day . Cheers dude
  17. Hey guys, On the front page of the forums, where the online member list is, there is a member called "Google.com". Who the hell is it? There is no record of them in the member section and normally where you can click on the name (on the active member list) you go to their details. However you cannot click on their name. Also, the name was in black when I first saw it, then it was in orange and now it's black again. Is this just something that has gone a bit wrong during the upgrade, or is there something more dodgy going on? Kaj
  18. Just seen your name pop up at the bottom of my screen so I thought I'd say Happy Birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Thought you were older than 26 though
  19. I heard that cramp is often caused because there is not enough salt in your diet. Dunno if it was true or not but I think it might have been a physiotherapist who told me (or a nurse). If, like me, you don't add salt to anything (except chips ) and maybe spuds then maybe that's not helping. But maybe I'm complely wrong
  20. Have something pulling in the opposite direction of the strings to cancel out their force, leaving (in theory anyway) an prety much unstressed top. Hell man, I should start building some of these ideas instead of posting them on the net Go on, if that's not it, give us a clue
  21. My initial thinking on destressing the top would be to drill 6 little slots behind the bridge that the strings could pass through (without touching the top) and mounting them to a block attached to the bottom and the very back of the guitar. Tadda, unstressed with the exception of the strings pulling down on the bridge. All the force that the top sees is the (near) vertical force on the bridge. Good or bad idea? Kaj
