  1. Picked right from the page you linked to. You'd pretty much screw it into place. That's why there are mounting holes in every corner.
  2. Do they? I haven't seen that, so examples would be appreciated to back up such a slanderous statement.
  3. IMO, you'd need pretty big hands to comfortably wrap your thumb up around a nylon acoustic neck. The way I play the part asked about is simply using my index finger to fret whatever is on the low E (or the A string, in some parts of the song), and my middle and ring finger to fret things on the G and B strings respectively, sometimes using my index, if it's not busy. For picking, I use my thumb for the bass notes, and my index and middle finger for the rest.
  4. Don't trick people into learning pi incorrectly (don't know if that was your intention, but anyways ). It's 3.1415926536897932384626 and more, but that's all I remember right now. About selling your idea, psw, would it perhaps be worth a try turning to Bill Lawrence? He's not a "major company", but still a big enough name to get it out there. My guess is he'd treat you and us better than a major company would.
  5. According to my calculations, it should be enough, but please await confirmation on that one, as there may very well be things I've overlooked. Btw, Helge, that's a name in Swedish. Are you from Sweden? [This was my 222nd post]
  6. Angling the neck would be done by putting shims in the neck pocket. Another way of fixing that problem would be to recess the ToM. About intontation and such, I have no info to give that I trust enough. Someone else will have to help you with that.
  7. Sorry this isn't really relevant to the topic, but I think it might be good to hear before it's too late. It will be much easier for you to route out your neck pocket and neck pickup rout if you do that before you've cut your piece of wood to it's V shape. Otherwise, the router won't have much to rest on, and will be unstable. And someone mentioned pine. AFAIK, it's no good for guitar building, though that's only what I've heard. Would someone confirm this?
  8. You could get around it if you had a paint that would turn black/white if left in sunlight or something. Just a thought, I dunno if some such paint exists.

Ok, now I get it. Thanks for clarifying. The signing up I was talking about was to listen to Lee's playing (or at least to download the mp3, maybe you could stream it w/o signing up?). And, yeah, lurking around for a while before signing up is what I usually do too.

I didn't get half of that. sorry. Who are you talking to and what are you saying? (it may be that it's 06:40 and I've been awake all night, or maybe I'm just stupid. Noneless, clarification would be appreciated. Oh, and my little tone sample has been approved now. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/4/gurramusic.htm is where you'll find it. And my bands stuff, if you have nothing to laugh at ATM: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/27stitches.htm Lol, hard to find. They can give bands sorted from A to Z, but the numbers are not included in that sorting process.

It's not crap. It felt quite fresh in my ears, except that the main riff repeats a whole lot too much. That would get better with vocals over though. Not meant as an insult, but that would, with vocals on it, be playable on radio without a problem, IMO. The tone needs some work though, as you said. I signed up and uploaded a little "tone sample" made with my Jackson plugged into my Boss GX-700, which has it's headphones jack plugged to the line in on my soundcard. I just improvised up 3 parts of it, first some heavily disted stuff, then some clean stuff, and then some "crunched" stuff. Then I played a part of Metallica's Master of Puppets, and then a part of Pantera's Cemetary Gates, from memory, so Ican't guarantee any correctness. And it's quite sloppy stuff, partially because it's improvised (or just from memory), partially because it's late at night here, partially because I'm not good with the guitar. Anyone willing to guess 1) whether my guitar is a bolt on or neck thru and 2) what brand of pickups I use? I also took the time to post my band's demo, consisting of 4 songs, rather poorly recorded and mixed, but always something. The darn mixer we used made it all sound very hollow, but whatever. My tone sample is posted under the band name "GurrA" (which is categorised as Metal>Death/Black Metal as that is what I mainly listen to), and the rest is under "27 Stitches" (which is under Pop>Pop Rock, because that's what I'd call it). But I don't think the stuff shows up until someone there has checked it's not copyrighted stuff.

I would guess people are a bit reluctant because they can't hear your redording unless they register. I'll register though, to post my own recording, and I'll try to give some comment on your playing too.
  13. Since this thread is already "finished" as far as I can see, and it's already quite high, I just thought I'd pop by and say that I misread the title of this thread as "Root beer help" at first.
  14. I'm actually quite disgusted by the quality of some tabs that are out on the net. I just don't understand how someone can put their name on something that is so obviously incorrect, and I also don't understand why some people submit these horrible tabs to other sites, so they get spread out all over the place. </rant>

I've heard that the GNX1 doesn't switch between patches instantly, leaving a 1/2 second gap, which IMO is quite unacceptable. Have you experienced this, or was the guy I heard using a faulty piece of equipment? What do you need a MIDI connector for, if you're going to record? MIDI is used to control what patch etc. you're using, not to transfer sound. I'm using a Boss GX-700. If someone tells me where I could upload a clip, I can get you a sample in a few hours.
  16. johnsilver, as far as I have seen, it is common practice to explicitly point out that a posted drawing is not proportionate. It would be kind of nice if you said that about your drawing. Especially since you mention the word CAD in your post, it's not very difficult to think that that picture is properly proportioned (if that's a word).
  17. Lol. People are telling this guy to "not worry if others make assumptions about you and your character based upon this tiny decision of yours", yet they themselves seem to assume that this guy is not very self confident and so on. Kind of funny, IMO.
  18. If it's copied of an original Jackson body, then it is to the best of my knowledge a 22 fret neck that is supposed to go with it, because all the RRs I've seen are 22 fret, but I might be wrong, so don't do anything expensive based on my "knowledge" only. You could measure and calculate stuff, but if you are "the type of person who'd do that", I figure you'd allready be doing it, and it's (IMO) pretty difficult to explain, so I wont try, sorry.
  19. I'm currently working on a custom shaped guitar, but I've made a few not so pretty mistakes, which I need to fix. After that, I'm going to build an explorer body for my strat clone's neck, and change the headstock into an explorer shaped one. When I get the money, I'd probably get better pickups, and possibly a ToM, instead of a blocked out strat 6screw trem. After that's done I have a few ideas. A neck through carved top custom shape (kinda like a BCRich Virgin) A neck through Jackson Kelly shaped guitar A neck through Randy Rhoads shaped thingy But I think I'm not going to be able to have time to do more than the first two things in any near future.
  20. Yeah, how do these things work? They can't change the string's mass or anything, so that can't be it. Changing the free length of the string, while keeping the tension the same, would result in bad intonation. Changing the tension would (on floating bridges) result in an out of tune guitar. So what does it do?
  21. I think a simply circuit with a few transistors and a small battery could do the trick. If you'd make the switch control whether or not the circuit with the battery and transistors was closed or broken, you could set the transistors to control the other functions. I think.
  22. I just thought I'd add on to what Hotrock said The idea of factor 2 there seems to me like it would be an accetable explanation for the loss of definition that Wes experienced, since the big piece of wood being the guitar would take longer to stop and start moving than the thin string, thus keeping the pickup in relative vibration after the first note had stopped ringing on the string, instead of stopping quickly and letting the next note's attack be clean and unaffected by the previous note's decay. Only a theory though.
  23. Or mount a mirror under the neck, so that you can see what's on the underside.... A bit stupid maybe, but it would be cool, IMO.
  24. Southpa, what motherboard is in your computer? (More curiosity than help, but anyways)
