    Very nice ribbon grain; that's about as pure a quartersawn cut as you will ever see. Damn, but that must have been a huge tree. Jatoba is also known as Brazilian cherry....but only for the color. It has no relation to cherry at all. SR

    Yep. That bubinga looks really sweet in the low angle shots. SR

    The blade was a dull gray when I got it and yeah it was 2". All I actually got was 12" lengths that were cut from a commercial blade. I would have loved to see the saw! The shine came from polishing...just like a laquer finish, sandpaper to 2000 grit and micromesh to 12000. There are still some scratches, but they are highly reflective scratches. And thanks Bargle, it was a fun way to use up some offcuts. SR

    Actually, I had two uncles and a grandfather that were barbers, and all of them had one in their basements in addition to what was in the shop. I haven't seen those in years...decades even. I wonder whatever became of them... SR

    It's been a while since I could check in. The polished headstock and logo looks great, bubinga looks great......are those barber chairs in your container? SR

    Over Christmas I was back at my parent's house and had a chance to get a couple shots of my first band saw blade re-use. I wish I could say they came from a saw I owned as these were huge blades, but the reality is a friend gave me some pieces of the blade for this specific reason: to make knives. Here is one I made for my Dad. SR

    Yes indeed. This piece first served duty as part of a packing crate for a shipment of granite slabs imported from Brazil. I rescued it from a chain saw and a trash bin. SR

    Way harder than cedar. No, and it's not really that uncommon for an exotic. It just doesn't normally look this nice. it's nice enough, but not normally known for figure. SR
