  1. Thank you much sir. You should see my other fish.
  2. Can't think of a maximum. Whatever you can wrap your hands around. A minimum to me would be more set in stone than a max. I don't think I'd go thinner than 1/8" at the edges, depends really on the strength of your neck wood and your FB wood. A good solid neck blank wont need re-inforcement by a thick FB. I did a poplar neck ( don't ask ) and used an extra thick-ish maple FB. Worked great. Sorry if that was vague , but really in a nutshell - no maximum. 3/4" would be ridiculous . lets set it at that for now.......
  3. Done except for strings ( Thanks Carvin !!!!! 4Q2! ) I'll grab some tomorrow on the way home from work. I used one old string today to set it up as close as I could till I pick up the new strings and set it up. All cavities are shielded , all wiring is done , just strings and a set up. I can't believe how much easier it is to build from a neck blank.
  4. Isn't that Metalhead28's headstock ? really close to it anyway. besides , don't you have a battle axe , a bass and some other geets to do first ??
  5. I have marked , with a fine-point inkpen, two templates from each scale length I utilize. I used factory necks to mark them out and double checked them against guitars they weren't created with to check the accuracy. I've been able to slot FB's since then and haven't had any issues with intonation. I use theguitars to record with so intonation is incredibly important from guitar to guitar and all over the neck. Always double/triple check your slots against a known good scale before commiting to the saw. Pencil marks can be erased , saw marks not so much so. and to answer your original question : : "as accurate as you want your notes" .
  6. cheat! B) Its for someone else.... I wanted a quality neck. I can handle the body/electronics but I've found my big weaknesses are finishing and neck building. So .... Good neck and an oil finish.. It IS cheating..... and those are just lyrics up there ^^ from Smokey and the Bandit. It was on TV when I was typing and I found it fitting. lol ....." We got a lawng way ta go - and a short time to get there.... "
  7. We gonna do what they say can't be done ........ My friend wanted a Bass guitar built. In a week or less. I am 24 hours into it so far. Not work hours , just hours..... Specs : Carvin neck through blank Padouk wings Custom-ish body shape based loosely on a Jazz bass. Black hardware P & J style pups 3 way, V & T some quick mock up pics for tonight... I'll get more done 'morrow and post better shots.
  8. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...ic=42451&hl ^^ a little trick I think I invented..... I thought everyone knew about it , but only me and Buter were gonna use it. I've had it work successfully 6 times out of 6 attempts , a 100% success rate thusfar. * shrugs * free to utilize by anyone and 1/10th the cost of a nut... although not 1/10th as classy as your guide , either.
  9. So does half of my crew ! Looking excellent . What ? No guide fret??
  10. tell me how they sound I'm always looking for cheap pickups that sound good. And how much were they? They cost 49 dollars for set and five wires so can be. Post payment was 12 dollars to finland so its cheap Glad to hear you got em. I love mine - please tell me if I was wrong , lol. ..... Looking good so far.
  11. Yep , add me to the admirers ! Beautiful in every aspect.
  12. Well that ^^ looks like art. The Orca , like it sits ,looks like a rout for an inlay. To me. but with the other oddities , the route/carve kinda fits it.
  13. Flamed Hickory .... Cooool. ( Nice planer ! )
  14. Thats the state it'll stay in until after I'm done with the current CD . Future upgrades will be an all padouk neck that I'll build for it instead of this DKMG neck.
  15. Death Pool???? Cool. I take Jan 23rd 2010 11:00pm. j/k Seriously though that is one pointy thing.... I love Padauk sound... I hate Padauk dust... I hate Padauk tear out. Padauk likes to shear on the grain. Are you building a neck for it? Good luck with this monster! ha-ha ! Death pool ticks on... still a chance to get in on it ! Heres some better pics of the beast for now.......
  16. Looks mucho mas better. You got your toes in the shot. Awesome.
  17. yeah... definitely not a speedloader. If by fastloader he means "single -locking" , then yes , thats deceptive. I loathe the single lockers.... Absolutley beautiful copy work , you definitley get what you're going for. I am envious of your selection of wood-working tools.....
  18. Would just like to add: Fretboard wood that is suitable for an Acoustic is suitable for an electric as well. Whatever your friend is using for his guitars will work just fine for you structurally. Aesthetics are your own call.
  19. FWIW the best licensed Floyd I've ever used was from Guitarheads.net . I think it was $50 , but I was an endorsee at the time so it was cheaper than that . ( yay ) Highly recommended for a FR that is cheap and stands up to punishment while staying in tune. Poperly stretched strings are the biggest key to not driving yourself mad with a Floyd..........
  20. The Comicaster - my first "sold" guitar , went for $5 more than the parts cost me. I probably won't sell any more , and that one was an assembly more than a build. I agree with the general consensus though... they'll sell for what they're worth in the end.
  21. got the back black and the gold accent stripe too .... need to let the paint harden and clear it..........
