  1. +1 on the 10k maybe more and a lot I don't have anymore. But that was over years of cabinet work and construction as well Most likely what's in my shop now is around 5k to 10k worth of tools. Just a guessestimate On that MK
  2. Yup! I got thrown off because I'd never thought of it as a hybrid. Nonetheless, it's an awesome build, and it introduces some great ideas. >snip< -Dave Thanks Dave, you are one of the first that understands where this is going and what's in my head Now if the "Good Lord willing" and some help, I might make it work LOL Thanks, Mike Well, when you get it done, maybe you and the good Lord will bless us with some sound clips. Of course if I can figure that part out LMAO!!! MK

  4. Waaaaaait a minute. You're talking about your resonator guitar, right? You've provided some good details on the build, but could you talk about the pickup system you installed a little more? How does it compare to say...a dreadnought or something? Yes my RESO!! I have not installed anything at this point permantly. But I have tested the fishman RESO pickup and it works great. Now if I can get my nephew to help me with the future builds. The end result will be, A neck pickup ( humbucker or single coil), reso cone with fishman pickup. Cantelever neck extension, Some blending available as well as being acoustic ( as the reso cone will do this without the top being active in the system). The cone will mount from the rear (no cover as the top will provide that and the access for the cone and electronics is from the rear), using a TOM bridge and the top will be more like an Archtop. Thus the name RESOFUSION. Got IT? The actual name for the current reso that is inside of it (I named it for the signature and build for charity) is Revolution. ButI decided for the GOTM to go ahead with what the final should be. MK
  5. Thanks and no you can't have it. It's going to an auction for charity. Thanks ! Thanks! It took awhile to decide on the cutouts. Thanks Wez! It's not that good! Just took a lot of patience, trial and ERROR!! Thanks everyone, Mike
  6. Thanks everyone, here it is finished. link link link I have entered this one in the November GOTM. Mike
  7. My first GOTM entry So here is my Latest. I call it ResoFusion. I built this with only ideas. No plans, just start and make it work. It all began as the fretboard from my original attempt at a Reso. It is a round neck and can be played as a conventional acoustic, It can also be played as any Dobro/ Reso by using a nutcap extension and raising the TOM to allow for slide, either played as a Round Neck or Lap Steel. Specs: 25" scale, malagasy rosewood fretboard, 14" radius. Curly maple and black walnut neck, with cantileverd bolt on mounting 3degree neck angle. Corian Nut, custom made Martin style truss rod Back and sides are Birdseye Quilted Maple, with Black walnut and Curly Maple bindings Top is Striped African Mahogany with a Birdseye Quilted Maple custom Cover. TOM bridge mounted on a custom Biscuit over a Beard cone with a Trapeze String mount. GFS tuners The body size and shape are loosely based on a 000 size Acoustic. This is smaller. Headstock, is Ibanez inspired, with Striped Mahogany veneers Front and back. It plays wonderfully, The tone is very nice. It intonates well with the TOM. Thanks for looking Mike. link
  8. *Just opinion... I have not built any hybrid guitars...* I don't think you can get around this problem. An acoustic guitar has a bridge which is free to drive the top, creating real acoustic (non-electronic) sound. A bridge that is free to drive the top is a feedback machine when amplified. I think of "amplified electric guitar" and "good acoustic sound" as being on opposite sides of a teeter-totter... you can only improve one by reducing the other. >snip< And now you may understand my use of a reso cone for the acoustic aspect. It will give the acoustic sound without top vibration needed, as well as allow for using a fishman pickup for the cone and if you want to add a neck PUP you could do that as well since the area between the neck joint and sound hole/well is usually reinforced and in most plans will be about 3/8" thick. Another reason for my using a TOM bridge on the reso cone to allow for Bridge grounding if needed when adding PUPs. Just my take on this and the direction I have been taking on my version of a hybrid. MK
  9. Even 2500 wetsanded is shiny from the right angle. I can get 1200 grit to look glassy at the right angle. So yes trying to remove the sheen try it on an obscure place. worse case is you don't like it and must go up some grades and polish. Otherwise downgrade until you find what you want. Most likely nothing less than 800. But I would suggest that you polish out each graduation to make sure. Funny How a satin finish can be polished and yet satin. just depends on the angle you look at it. *00 grit polished hsa a great sheen and dull with no reflection and grain still there and a glassy look at about 40-degrees perpendicular. If you are not sure try some test pieces. Just .02cents worth. MK BTW I use that technique on cabinets. I use a Gloss finish and back sand, then buff it out. Makes for a more natural finish, good grain clarity, and finger smudge resistant from the looking eye. Works great in the kitchen. Just a another tip from and old cabinet maker.
  10. Thanks Wez, It's only the 4th one i've made The others just didn't quite capture it. Now If I don't screw it up with the cutouts. Still working on the detail of that. Soon it will be done. MK BTW are there any Cites problems US to UK shipping that you are aware of?
  11. So after some checking. Our Good Friend FG was having some fun with all. The IPs did not match therefore the closer inspection. Have fun All!!!!! Mike
  12. So here is an update on this unusual one. Still have to decide on the patterns to cut in the cover. Otherwise it intonates very well, just muted some until the cone cover is opened up some. Will post more when it's done. Thanks for looking!!!!!!!1 Mike
  13. Seriously? I wonder what it would cost for me to ship you one to the UK? I'll look into it? Please PM me with shipping Addy!!! Mike
  14. Wez"its almost very much like a fancy 70's ibanez... artcore or something like that." yep very similar to the 80s Ibanez Sig Artist. I had one of those once. Very nice guitar Thanks Erik, Just wanted you to know it was finally done Not a contender but##### as Rocky said "ADRIAN I DID IT" Much hard work. LOL !! BTW when will I see something using that NICE LACEWOOD top? LMAO!!!!! MK
  15. Thanks Bygde. Funny though how we can't capture the color and grain as well in a picture. It's really much better looking in person MK
  16. Thanks Wez, The back of the headstock was to cover up a MISTAKE in tuner hole location. The hand shaking problem bit me when I was drilling. This is most likely the last electric I'll build. Now to finish up the Reso and I'll be done with my tasks at hand. If I do continue I'll need help from friends here as my health issues are really beginning to make this type of work very difficult for me to say the least. This one will most likely be donated to charity for underpriveledged children. Thanks again. MK
  17. Well all, Finally finished the GBO DC. (a year late ) Not what I really intended at the start but still it's okay. Just need to string it up and set the action. I know most don't like gold hardware but it seems to fit this one. 25" scale, Maple and purple heart neck with Camphor burl headstock veneer. Malagasy rosewood fretboard bound in Curly maple. ash body with camphor burl cap and curly maple stripe. Recessed TOM, Carvin Holdsworth Pickups. Thanks for looking! Mike
  18. +1 not real stable if spalted very heavily
  19. I gently move her this way and that way. I little kiss here and there helps as well
  20. Woodenspoke was making Fret benders for awhile. Nice quality and better price than Stewmac. Not sure if he still is though. Try PMing him. HEY WOODENSPOKE YOU STILL OUT THERE? MK
  21. >snip< Mike It cured for a long time, I had the guitar on a rubber stand and never had a problem, then I get a nice stand with foam pads, and after being there for a few days, the paint was already eaten. Man that sux! I'll watch out for that in the future. So far no problems here though. Thanks!! MK
  22. Not sure you should use Stratocaster. I believe that is also Trademark. I'm sure others will chime in on that !! MK
