  1. I think this will kick butt! Great use of a door. My best guess is that it will be like a giant gigarbox guitar.
  2. It looks like flamed maple!! Thats the best gift idea.
  3. Wow! Never would have geussed chisel, great job, thats not easy!
  4. @Avengers63, Thats a nice one! I love the stripes in bloodwood, they make a great hologrphic effect. What kind of nut is that? Looks like you made it out of aluminum or something?
  5. I love the red on the neck! Really makes the whole thing pop, also that flames binding is a very nice touch. How do you round out the area around the knobs? I always liked the look of that!
  6. Thanks for the help! Ive got some west system epoxy ill give a try on some scrap first. Do you think i should do it before fretting or after? It would be way easier to sand/buff before hand, but i dont want to F it up while crowning....
  7. Thanks for the reply! It sounds like a good plan, Ive seen it used on fretless basses a lot. Did you sand it smooth than buff it out Westhemann? Any pics you would like to share?
  8. Great job! I used one shot as well for The limited swirling ive done, But it didnt spread nice like yours did, also a lot of the purple and turquoise sank to the bottom. Did I not have enough borax?
  9. Looking good! I like the mismatched headstock, I dont think ive seen that before.
  10. Thanks! I feel confident the piece I have will do well.
  11. Whats your preferred pore filling product? Anyone find a "clear" one thats actually really good? Ive used epoxy and shellac before with good results, Im curious to what you folks like.
  12. That is just beautiful. if you have hardwood floors, take a guitar and hold it very lightly right above the floor by the nut area. Then strum it, while its ringing, touch it to the floor. The floor acts like a big ol sound box, making the sound louder and bigger. Is really cool. Id imagine this guitar works on the same principal.
  13. Ive got a nice piece of bloodwood I want to use a fretboard. I really love the way the figure looks when its wet/finished and shiny and i want that look on my fretboard too. Can you recommend anything I could use that's fretboard friendly? I have tru oil, but im afraid it might be a bad idea for the board, most people advise against it. The rest of the guitar will most likely be oiled. Ive used teak oil with good results on boards but it doesn't leave a super shiny slick gloss look. Any tips?
  14. Hey, im making a 3 piece maple neck and its kind of boring, so I want to do a scarf accent to jazz it up a bit. Ive got a nice piece of 1/8 inch Padoak I want to use. Is that too thick? Ive never done it before. Also it looks quarter-sawn and the grain runs straight up the piece. Is this the right way to align the grain to avoid a weak joint? Thanks guys!
  15. I started this build over a year ago and ended up taking a break from it to focus on work. I got back to it a few months ago and finally finished it off! Its been done for over a month now and am happy how it came out so I thought id share it with the nice people who helped me out. Ebony board, 23 frets. BKP Warpig in neck position, Seymore Duncan Invader in bridge, both coil tapped. Red LED/Fiber optic side markers Momentary kill button Walnut neck accent Gotoh hardware, string through. Oiled neck "textural inkblot" finish No knobs.... Thanks for looking!
  16. Good quality vid! As far as the music goes I thinks its pretty good for that particular style. Got a Djenty feel to it in some parts. Oh and that guitar is fudgin awesome!! Hows the finish holding up? You going to try it again?
  17. I think the staining looks badass! Howd you mess it up?
  18. I have a beard and had pretty good results with a full face respirator, (the riot looking kind) In fact today I machine sanded the bottom of a boat all day and was fine. That horrible blue stuff on the bottom I mean. The sander was just a few inches above my face and I didnt have any leaks. As far as fumes/vapors go, you may have to shave Edit, just saw your post, I own that 3m respirator and I LOVE it. It makes a huge difference. I also have the organic vapor inserts as well as the particulate inserts on it, its still easy to breathe.
  19. Well I got carried away carving my neck the other day and did this... http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=45279 BUT I think I fixed it up fairly well. First thing I did was get some thin strips of walnut. I soaked a piece in water for an hour or so to make it pliable. I then covered the neck of my guitar with plastic to keep it dry. I put the walnut on the neck and wrapped mason string all around it super tight. (constrictor knot to the rescue!) like so.. The next day I removed the walnut (which was now the same shape as the neck carve) and glued it on using the same wrapping method. After a night of scraping rasping and light sanding I ended up with this! I know its not super pretty or an ingenious invisible fix but I couldn't let this mistake ruin the whole effort. The neck is pretty shreddy feeling which is no big deal its a seven string so the extra size makes it comfortable but real fast. The back is a tiny bit flattish but I'm satisfied and I'm going to leave it until final sanding. Please tell me what you think! PS. Thank you to anyone who helped out in the other thread, I appreciate it
  20. Id try a shopvac, then compressed air. If acetone doesnt work then you'll have to scrape or sand it away.
  21. Wow, I really appreciate all the positive support. I plan on using good old titebond and maybe some fancy wood I have lying around to make it look intentional Im heading to the garage now ill let you know how it goes!
  22. The guitar is for me, no customers yet haha. So what if I flatten the back of the neck and glue a thin piece of wood the length of it and recarve it? Leaving an elliptical kind of stripe. The fretboard wont come off so well, I epoxied the hell out of it and there are fiber optic cables running all through it and whatnot... Thanks for the help guys. I feel like routing into the neck and adding a fillet wouldn't fix the thickness problem as well as just putting more wood on. I know its lame but this is my baby and I absolutely have to finish it even it it sucks.
  23. I was finishing up the carve on a neck I made and I accidentally went a bit too far and rasped right into the truss channel! It was only one stroke, but it was a rough rasp. The guitar is a neckthrough so a new neck is out of the question... I Don't know what to do and I was hoping you guys could help me out. Heres the damage. Everything in the circle is very thin and immediately around the crevice is nearly parer thin... I wasnt even trying to make it super thin I was trying to flatten it evenly and took too much off. And advice will be greatly appreciated. This is my first build and I really want to save it!
