See, I played the Krankenstein through the Krankenstein Cab, and it too had a bit of hair on it. I would like to be able to pick out each note in a chord, and still be heavy enough to blow yer back out. The Krank dosent have that. The 6505 was my initial choice because of the price, but I dont want to compromise this time. Ill buy the 6505 if its what I want.

Perfect example VHT Pitbull....At a guitar show, and some Vintage dealer has one with matching cabinet...sign says needs tubes(microphonic) with matching cabinet 900 bucks...so I ask him, and he says...if your looking for a heavy distortion amp, this isnt it...this is one of the heaviest Overdriven amps made..blah blah blah So I didnt buy it (I wasnt looking really then anyways, but what a deal) What sound am I looking for....Can any guitarist really say they have the ultimate tone and wouldnt change a thing? A Nice range I guess Dimebag to KSE...maybe a little Static X. Dont really need an AC/DC or Sabbath tone, I can get that with one of my Marshalls.I play the kind of music that wood selection dosent make as much difference in tone(her come the arguements) Ive been doing my research as far as sound, Lamb of God uses Mark IV, Inflames uses modded 5150s, and I like those tones, but I would like my own definitive tone. No I havent tried any Laney's, there arent any dealers around me, actually the only amps I have tried out are the peavey and the krank because nobody stocks Uberschalls and VHT's, but Ill have to check it out. And that Marshall does look impressive. The Meteoro Mak 3000 is made in Brazil, and is the Max Cavalera Signature amp, and the tone is spot on.

Naturally, the last show I played with my band, I smoked one of my heads, and now its time to go shopping (got my tax return the other day) Maybe I just havent been told properly, but even the guys at the guitar store cant explain the difference. Im looking into some heads, and they use both terms....but I dont know if Im looking for a kiler overdrive or killer distortion. What is the difference? They are nice, however, I gotta agree with Wes. The S540 with square heel was the best, especially the customs with the IBZ pickups. The whammy bars are easily replaced, either evilbay or you local Ibanez dealer. Price... again Like Wes said, depends on year, if its a custom or not, quilt top or not. Have you seen the guitar yet? Would be woth the time again to check on the bay and find out what they are going for. I just picked up the S7420, and besides the 7th string, I would rather have an older one. Mine is a 99

I know your not doing an exact replica, but myI dont remember my 540 having the half moon cutaway at the neck joint, it has a gradual slope. I actually wish it did, more of an old RG feel to it. Nice build by the way, Im doing one myself in purpleheart.

Thank you..... I was looking through my pics to find one that shows the finish up close, and of course, the one that does also shows my blem... on the first one I tried, when wetsanding near the pickup switch, I sanded through the clear. I was being overcautios when wetsanding this one, and left a hint of a run in the finish...oh well live and learn. I also left the masking tape in the neck pocket on too long, and when I removed it, I pulled a chip about the size of a pencil tip off. Drop filled it, but if you look hard enough, you can still see it.

I figured since I figured out how to upload images I would show ya my latest atempt at a fabric finish. I also changed out the inlays to match the body better. She looks amazing under a blacklight, kinda like its on fire. Yeah I know, I saw one of those sites that had a 20 dollar donation, and they give you access to the tech area where they show you how to make a dual zone pad. My bud just gave me a yamaha drum machine with 7 pad and 2 makeshift pedals. It would be fine except for the fact that once in a while, depending on where you hit it, it kills power just long enough to reset the kit to factory presets. So Im jamming on a double bass lick, and all of a sudden, the sound changes, and your on a single kick preset... oh well...it was free.

I was actually thinking about trying this place out. Speciman guitars They are not to far from my house, and have hands on courses on guitar electronics, fretting courses, and complete building. They also have alumni nights where its seems like its an open shop night for former students. 3400 for the complete course, 350 for the electronics course.... A lot cheaper than 32 grand. See if there is something similar to this near you.....might giva ya a chance to test the waters

I just sold my 9 piece kit with rack and cymbals because it took up so much room, and I never had a chance to play it for more than 5 min at a time. Thats why its kinda bittersweet looking at the digital stuff. Your right about the double trigers or loss if a hit, but for teaching a kid, or just goofing around, its not that bad. Its not like Im gigging or recording with it. I do however want the dual zone for rim shots with the snare, and chokable cymbals. I played on the newest roland V series kits, and its acuracy is amazing.....its also 5 grand, so in a month from now my kid can say Im done with it

I know this is a guitar forum....but in my younger days, I was a drummer. Now I would like to get my kid a drumset, but mom dosesnt want the noise. Digital drums can be quiet, and take up less room. Anyone have any experience with an economy set....say under 400 bucks? Looking specifically for a double kick, and dual zone triggers. Suggestions?

But of course, count me in to. Any idea as to cost yet?

Ive done 3 fabric finishes, first on a strat style...trial and error, the rounded corners made it difficult, so the burst came in so far that you hardly saw the fabric....scrapped. The next was on an RG, and it turned out good, but I layed the clear on to thick to fast, humid day, not enough retarder, and got bubbles. Also when wetsanding, because I didnt seal the pickup routs, the cloth soaked up just enough water to push up the clear and make it cloudy. 3rd was also on an RG, and worked out the best so far. Needed more wetsanding, but again it was trial and error. Now come spring time, I was going to try a heavyweight paper finish (alchemy gothic poster) and see what happens. Ive practiced enough to be confident in trying new things, and like was said, if not, just sand and start over.

Maybe I missed something while reading, but do you plan on using any reinforcement in the neck, such as carbon fiber rods? I would think 2 more strings might make adjusting your truss rod a bit harsh without extra support. Please correct me if Im wrong, but I think I read somewhere that your average 6 string tuned to 440 has between 180 and 240 pounds of pressure on the neck(depending on string guage, 30 to 40 per string) Im just curious, as I have now been bitten with the 8 string bug. Ideas Ideas Ideas....

29.......feel like 50. Broken bones, torn ligaments, arthritis in all of my joints from skateboarding, BMXing, snowboarding, not actually doing all of those things, but from falling:>) ... now it takes me a bit of time to get out of bed, and I aint even 30.

Experiment, experiment, experiment...I am still trying to find the right green for a swirl Im planning on. Someone suggested humbrol, so I bought it, and the pink worked, but the green didnt. The pink was also metallic (didnt state it on the can). Good luck, and get some pics up when you get it right for us swirl lovers

John Petrucci's video has the first section dedicated to warm up exercises, stretching exercises, and pressure points in the hands that help from cramping, not to mention one heck of a technical lesson. Might be worth a shot. I think you need to figure out what works best for you as well. Not that Im his biggest fan, but Eddie Van Halen has a very obscure picking style(the whole crooked wrist thing) but it works for him....and who could argue that? Either way, good luck.....hope your guitar dosent become vintage sitting in the closet.

2 live guitar rigs( line 6 flextone II and line 6 HD147 heads, varioius cabinets, Marshalls, Peaveys, Crates) beringer 12 mixer, 1 wide diaphram condenser mic, Peavey butcher head, Marshall cd100r head, JCM 800 head, Crate Blue Voodoo head, Alessis compressor, Alessis quadraverb, Laptop with acid installed, I think thats about it. What we dont have is a place to Mic a cabinet and crank it up, and time. My bassists plane leaves the week after the superbowl, and we aint recording that day. Still have to do 2 sets of guitar tracks, any overdubs, and vocals for 20 songs without overextending my singers voice. We asked a local club that we hang out at if we could record live cabinets there, but again we are limited on time, because we can only record untill hes open for business(record from 9am to noon)

My friends stuff on his solo record sounds pretty good all through line 6, but according to line 6, to achieve your live sound direct, is to flip the switch, and plug in the XLR......BS. Been experimenting since, and just cant get it. Only 2 days left before judgement day. Better hurry

Thats pretty close to the sound I can get now. Personally, I like a bit more in the mids, or maybe the speakers on my computer suck. Its funny how some of that stuff will surprise you. What kind of pickups are you runnin with that? Maybe I should clarify. If I double up on my guitar tracks, I can get that thick beefy sound I would love to record with. However, this band had 2 guitarists, and his style is much more free and open sounding than mine. Even on the same patch through the same amp, our style defines our tone. I was straight up Mr Thrash, and hes a old school punk. Mix the two and you get what we are trying to record. Wes, I like the sound, but its what I have now. Thanks anyway.
