  1. I forgot to mention that the "peeler" will eat inlay dots. That stuff is amazing. I once stripped a body in a month with the neanderthal method. Seriously, this peeler stuff came off with less than an hour of work. I used a scothbrite pad and a thin scraper and it peeled off like runny gum. Seriously, give this a whirl.
  2. PIckup up a copy of Frog Brigade, "purple onion" Les has a song on there called Whamoloa! which he jams out on it.
  3. Sorry, I typed that out in 10 seconds because I was late heading off for work. Yes, that is what I meant. I honestly don't care what people do so long as it doesnt interfere with me. If I get hit by a drunk/stoned/psycho mf'er and they are all "Derr....." I am curb stomping them. Perhaps they should legalize all drugs. The potential for the users to end up sterile, dying from OD, and/or not coming to work would lead to a drastic population reduction of ***holes. I've dealt with drunks, druggies, and morons thoughout my life and watched them self destruct. I also work out at a casino where gambling addicts run in everyday and complain about the machines. When they complain, I just tell them to stop and go home...Never works, but its the truth. "Man, this stuff isn't going to hurt you, but man, I gotta cut back." Then stop. Yes, hundreds of elements and vegatables found/grown/cultured naturally are lethal. Think Poison Oak: all natural, non addicting, tasty, good for you. Sorry for the tangent, but the gambling thing just reminded me of this: http://www.illwillpress.com/smok.html Enjoy, and carry on! HAHAHA! Thats great! Thanks!

  5. As long as it meets the tremolo routing specs. The bridge size specs are almost exactly the same as this except for the 1/2 inch on the back tail part where the strings go in.
  6. ONe thing that I hate is that because it came from nature, it is therefore okay to smoke. But allow me to stress the following point; Cyanide is also a naturally occuring gas Sulfuric Acid is naturally occuring Uranium is found in nature (in small quatities) All of which is from that same source and therefore good for you.
  7. I recently got these as part of a parts aquisition. Here is what looks like an old Hagstrom chrome tremolo tail piece Here is a wraparound style bridge (no name) with no saddles And finally a gold strat style trem bridge (no screws or springs) I think I'll go $20 shipped, otherwise make an offer!
  8. If you had accurate measurements (ie Dial Calipers with depth reading) you can do it with out a hitch. It its a few mm's too thick on one side, you can lightly sand it even after installing. If is too thin, you could shim it with a piece of paper or two.
  9. You can do whatever you want; it's your guitar. Like I said, you just cut the spot for the inlays, Use a radius block that matches the radius of your fretboard. Add sandpaper. Rub the inlay against the radius block so that it is curved to the radius of your fretboard and use fine grit sand paper to get it just right. once its done, it should be flush against the fretboard. Glue it in and your done.
  10. I tried this aerosol Car-Paint-Stripper-in-a-can called "peeler" its in walmart auto motive. Works in under five minutes. Peels the paint and primer off like gum. (get a thin metal scraper to help you out)
  11. Are them dot inlays or block inlays? The dots you shouldn't need to pull anything. Blocks are a little trickier, but I found a way to radius them without pulling any frets. When you need to pull the frets you need a fret puller but it doesnt end there. Generally, unless you're a pro, you'll mangle the frets taking them out. So you'll need new frets. Then you'll need to cut and bend the frets to match the radius. Then of course, press. (not to mention leveling and filing) Yes I like Stewmac You can buy a radius block and put sand paper on that, then put rub the inlay against the sandpaper. voila, preradiused inlays. Unless you like fret work, you shouldn't need to pull the frets.
  12. Yeah, that procedure sounds fine. It will give the inlays a more comforming surface to the fingerboard. As for the CT bass...I think that it slotted into the body much like an acoustic bridge. Here is a pic of Les Claypool and his CT Rainbow bass to support my theory.
  13. Or you could have it build inside a little trailer and pull it with your car to gigs. Just roll 'er in the door!
  14. Oooh Oooh! Gimmie!! Hey I only see one??
  15. SUSTAIN?! I don't know man, I guess it really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. See, I've told people who have asked me to custom make them a guitar or something simply, "what do you want it to do?" You really can't justify the "sustain factor" if it isn't going to be used for a sustain style of playing. Imagine: Top shelf, naturally aged lumber; hand wound pickups; custom bridge; stainless steel frets; brass nut...All which are in place to add clarity and sustain...rigged though a deathmetal distortion pedal, Weeping demon wah, overdrive, Marshall amp with muddied settings, and cranked 8x10. You get the picture. It cancels itself out.
  16. It's like you got brain napster! I am doing almost the exact same thing except mine is an all black rebuild. I have another similar one in the pipe with a double tremolo.
  17. I was out at the shop where I bought all those parts from and I noticed that hanging on the wall was the EXACT bass they had sold me except (understandably) complete and for $299. That is a Squier Affinity P bass. I guess I suddenly dont feel like I'm just using some crap body anymore. :D
  18. I understand, believe me. I don't personally deal with MIMF and thats is one of the reasons. That and some of the users were downright condenscending. Ask anyone here how to fix a trussrod, you get a decent informed answer. When I asked over there it was more than, "chuck it, it aint worth it." it was "why the hell are you even bothering with that piece of ....?!" Sorry mates, I just like PG more.
  19. My "sound" almost made human anatomy crumble. It was 2 2x15's rigged in the L/R outs on my B2RE head and turning that past half made the air look wavy. The sound was so potent I no longer could stand in front of it. A 4x15 supercab combo is indeed cool, but by no means practical.
  20. Rig envy can be a real problem. I used to read the forums at talkbass.com every day, and all I could ever think about was what gear I wish I owned. I bought and sold a lot of bass gear back then, but I've since gotten back into guitars and sold off most of my bass stuff. I'm down to a Dingwall ABI 5-string and a Gallien Krueger RB-700 with Avatar 2x10 and 1x15 cabs. 4x10's are awesome, though, and if I ever start gigging as a bassist again, I'm going to sell the Avatar stuff and buy a Sadowsky 4x10. What rig did the guy have that made you envious? Well aside from naming every single configuration for bass cab ever made, which he owned and was trading in, I mentioned the prospect of a new cab. He said, "A 4x10? Those can do anything." leaving me to come home and stare miserably at my 2x15 and wonder, "why aren't you a 4x10?" I talk to a lot of bassists in the area and it seems that Ampeg 4x10s with an SVT head are the way to go.
  21. I've never used a Kahler, but am considering it. Is this "cardinal rule" included with the instructions for the trem? You've gotta know that 9/10 guys who buy the trem will slap it on the instrument and string up without ever reading any of the scraps of paper that come with it, unless they have a problem. Yes the smart consumer should read the manual before proceeding, but at the same time, a bomb-proof design will have been engineered with this in mind. AAACK! HERESY!!
  22. Aw man! He was always the Genius foil for my inexperience. Look at any of the topic where I ramble on about something half intelligibly, he would add it his two cents and my questions would evaporate. Take care Unclej, may we meet again to do that dueling banjos routine.
