  1. sorry,i did search and there's nothing on building necks all i really need to know is how to make the curves,i already have the neck shape cut out and routed down to size, and it just needs curved...and i dunno how to do that, can anyone help me? thank you
  2. i found 2 good pics of that stuff,i light one and i think this is a before/after pic,the one on the right is after, and is it the same colour as ur guitar?
  3. how about rap it round cardboard?
  4. yeah, just give it a surface to stick to,i used a small craft knife, and just made a star shape, have u fixed it?
  5. in the www.craft-supplies.com brouchure,it says that one of ther luthiers makes hand made guitar and bas parts, its his speciality,so you could try him,tho you said you needed it urgent,i'm not shure how long he'll take
  6. that shield picture, will you have the metal trimmings round the outside?maybe some1 can manipulate the shield on photoshop and make it into the guitar os some thing? and going with sepultura's question, will you plan on having really shiney hardware?or tarnished and maybe a bit rusted?like some1's signature les pul.it was on another forum i was on,it was a les paul, and the pickups had been''oxydised'' to synthetically rust is,and the metal circle on the pickups were rusted, and the chrome cover was tarnished a bit,any1 no wat i'm on about?its true!it wasnt dream!lol
  7. pickup winder?why by wen u can build http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...c=16999&hl=lego i give this link to you for !.humor at its crazy idea, yet it works and ". a few people in that thread have/still do wind pickups, just pm them,or they will post in this thread whitey
  8. meh, there all good idea's,but i was askin if the idea in general was good, and its not just limited to maple,it was a general idea,if ironwood is the densest wood out there, make it more dense by press forming it...that was my idea,to get ultimite sustaine, have looked into ironwood and thats a good idea, making a neck through with it
  9. ok,well i'm sorta getting the idea, will start in more detail after my vacation,i have already removed one inlay fine, will wait till i recieve my other ebony neck and start on the filling, will try a test first in a small drilled hole on some scrap.thanks for the help whitey
  10. hey,i'm sorry to interviene, but i dont want to start a new post, and i cant find any info about my neck ''querie'',so... well y'no how a 3 piece neck laminate is like,3 pieces 1 after the other...duh lol, what about the rosewood line that are commonly used on fender necks? like this http://www.jcguitars.com/robbas3.JPG its not a lamitate, but its 3 pieces and its sorta stuck in,does it have a name?or is it just reffered to as''that thing to strenthen the neck''? thanks whitey
  11. and a sword inlay hey,i'm soory if this is promoting a site,as i sorta no the guy who runs it,but have you ever heard of ''body armour'' for guitars? http://www.gsrguitars.co.uk/armour.htm if you read,it gives u a link to the different kinds of metal finishes eg diamond plate, mirror chrome...wat a shield effect that would be huh?lol
  12. i see them, and that skull looks sweet everytime i see it
  13. em,i've read the first three pages through, eyes so sore now lol,i have learned a lot,and i have a contribution...gasp!a noob as something to say! never think u can make everything, for your first ever project,it easier to copy a guitar, even trace it and either do an exact replica,if you are planning to do more in the future,it wont really matter if you have two p-bass's or wateva, cause that was just a practise,or you could trace a bass you already have, and modify it,i traced a p-bass for my design, and my bass, after 3-4 days of tweaking,it looks nothing like a p-bass,and is in good proportion.buy most of your parts eg,neck/fretboard,or just by a pre made neck.i guess u gotta start small, then by you 3rd,fourth,or maybe fifth guitar/bass.u will have confidence to make absolutly everything, and more(fretlights, custom inlys etc.) and my last piece of advice, never mention vinyl sealer to westheman,he will rip ur b@lls off and slap u in the face with them till you skip home to mumy lol,no offense...well.hope i hav'nt wasted ur time, but just start small, guitar buildings for life, not just for summer
  14. anymore pics?and what is the thickness of the body?would you say it was thinner?as u said it lighter than ur other les paul?or RG :s lol i guess an easy way also to make a guitar lighter,is make it hollw, and add a 3/4 inch veneer over the top, like alid, yet there's unough wood for routing...if that makes sense, thats wat i was gonna do one day, make a smallish, travel guitar, and make it really light
  15. yeah, the edges are one of the best fetures, exept the actual figure of the wood ,very nice, and that ebony fingerboard from warmoth some1 posted up,that loks so sweet, almost like...well...carbon.so i'm guessing ebony is a good materia for a neck rather than just a finger board?
  16. hey, hmmm, should it be worth to post and have another off topic discussion...lol would the same glue to stick fretboards to necks be usefull?i'm not sure how thin the vener is that ur working with, but i'm guessing it will work,as a fretboard isnt that thick either, but i'm guessing you should read the post above me,and westheman recomended a particular brand,so now your in good hands as long as u follow the instructions lol
  17. Thought:...what if you made a mold of a Lespaul and put it over a sapling so that the tree actually grew into the required shape....you'd get a nice strip of heartwood down the middle for added stiffness...mainly you'd avoid all that messing carving of the top..... ← yeah, but then you have got the weight of the whole tree!lol thanks, wel check greg curbow out
  18. oh my god!the impailer is probably the most beutifull thing i have ever seen!i will certianly do buisnus with you in the future dude.with the impailer obvously lol,so...wait...i'll pm u lol
  19. yeah, the red looks sweet, especially with some gold hardware, and a sexy young model to promote the bass...mat? lol.red is good, cause it goes with the style, blood red axe thing.sweet if u build it
  20. yeah, that is awsome, love the wood and the bevles, and wats up with the naked pics in ur site?
  21. that is so sweet man! just a small guess, but do i detect a hint of les paul?lol u need to show us more pics of the body conturing and back,it looks sweet,is it smaller than a normal guitar?as u said u wanted something to travel with?
  22. yeah, just an idea, wasnt actually gonna try it,tho i heard carbon was good,i.e basslab.de prooves that lol but maybe if u pressed it the space of months, even years, and i'm guessing that it wont ''pop back up'' to full size again, tho it might mess with the intonation, wat if u blasted it with steam?to keep the shape, like how they fold the drums togethor to form a cilynder?meh,i guess i should leave it all to some1 with knowledge to wood, but i bet in like 10 years time,my idea will be the next big thing since the solid body guitar came out,and some1 else would have launched it lol
  23. that is pretty cool, neato is is the only word that comes to mind lol.really good, keep it up and make more (craptastic)inlays
  24. hey, yup, anouther crazy idea by me lol, well,u no how the harder the guitar body, the better the sustain. well, would press forming give it a lot better sustain?it would be a bit compliated, and will have to be cnc'd and have stages to it,but squashing the wood down into shape.or even rolling the wood before hand, like what they do in iron works, just flatten and compress it,and then carve it out? as it is copressed,it should sustain like a bitch(very good).but i guess it will be heavier,so would this work...in theory at least? whitey
  25. how bout some...dundundun...VINYL SEALER! lol.i think some1 suggested a different glue,like wood glue,that shouldn't seep through...but i suck at this,so meh lol
