    I think Oak looks lovely and its really plentiful here in the UK. Put off though by its reputation for being difficult to work. Nice bit of flaming going on there!

    I have a piece of olive wood in my possession that has been been drying for the best part of six months, it was about 14% moisture when I got it and upon measuring it recently I noticed that it had finally got down to an average of 8%. Or at least so I thought. During the lengthy planing process (with a router) I noticed an area of the board that seemed darker than the surrounding wood. I put my finger on there and it seemed wet. Measured it and it was over 20% moisture. Shrugged it off and thought I would simply avoid that area when I cut out the shape on the bandsaw. However, more spots emerged. Has anybody else come across this? Pockets of moisture that are trapped deep inside the wood? I have decided to put the piece to one side and let it dry for a longer period. Maybe olive wood is particularly problematic in this regard.

    I’ve been wanting a guitar with p90s for quite some time and I recently took the plunge. A cheap guitar (Sub Zero) but these things sound great! Definitely different to a regular single coil and they also don’t sound quite like a humbucker. Very full sounding with tonnes of definition. Not a glassy kind of sound like a regular single coil, these things definitely make you want to whack the guitar harder! One question though, I’ve often read that p90s are noisy...I’m not getting that with these pickups at all! Any input on this? Cheers.

    Beautiful curves That’s how I Iike em . The back almost reminds me of those Ovation bowlbacks...except done in a much classier style, and probably not as slippery!

    Thanks for the reply! So it’s certainly not a clear cut thing. It’s mainly all been in my bedroom. Thankfully I only have a few pieces that are slightly on the high side.

    I have a some wood right now that is a little over the 8% moisture level that is often advised for guitar building. Some ash and some olive wood, both for use as bodies. The ash that in certain spots is 13 percent (mostly 12) and others 8 percent. The olive wood ranges from 12-13 percent. Its a bit frustrating having all this stuff that I cant use! Just how essential is this? As an aside, will the addition of a thick maple top minimise any warping/swelling concerns? Cheers.

    A bit late to the party but fantastic guitar and I like your playing a lot! Lovely vibrato. Nice that its only 5lb too. Is this the model where we were talking about having the flat fingerboard radius on here? If so how do you find this aspect for general playing?

    The Bootstrap stuff looks great, but I seem to imagine there being some issues getting them (I'm a brit) probably well worth a look at though! I quite like the sound of the P90's on the Axetec website, as a bonus they are a little less deep than some that I have seen, so less routing. https://www.axetec.co.uk/guitar_parts_uk_074.htm Sound samples are pretty good.

    I didn't have this problem when routing the body, although I am convinced that it is Padauk now (part of the edge of the wood that was cut from the blank has turned brown, and to me it looks identical to the Padauk that I saw in a recent woodworking show). Obviously given you guys experience I certainly don't doubt that it is prone, maybe I just got lucky in that regard. I certainly wouldn't call it easy to work with though! The stuff I have is very hard and seems to take an age to cut through. Part of me likes that though, it makes for less sudden mistakes. As a slight aside the wood I have had most problems with is Ovangkol, lots of tear outs (I believe the problem with it is interlocked grain?).

    Just realised a silly oversight, doing it this way I would either have to recess the neck at the extended area (not an big obstacle) in order to make it flush with the body, or simply have the neck pocket slightly deeper with the fretboard plush to the body (although by doing it this way I would need a very low profile bridge).

    I was just wondering if it would be viable to create a Tele/Strat neck that would work as a sort of hybrid between a set neck and a neck through? I mean have the neck material extending a bit past the length of the fretboard (The scratchplate/pickguard could cover this area). That way there would be enough surface area to be able to glue it as apposed to making it a bolt on? I’m having difficulty explaining what I mean, but hopefully the image below will help, (I’m not sure if this is an illustration of my idea or simply the neck before the conventional tenon is cut out). A random thought I know, but one of the reasons I ask this is because I believe a glued in construction allows for a thinner body? This would possibly work in a single (bridge) pickup design or one where the neck pickup is just a little bit further back. Thoughts appreciated, as always!

    My intent has simply been to just glue the panels in there, although I did think of the magnet way. Infact I may do it that way come to think of it. I didn't think of adding the supports, seems a hassle free way of doing it. Hmmm

    The nomenclature surrounding rebate bits is confusing me, what would you recommend for a something that produces a ledge of a few mm? Are the bearings interchangeable on these bits? I guess in that case I could get almost any and just change the bearing to suit?

    Haha thanks man! The dying process you mentioned does sound interesting though, I will check it out anyway I’m in England, so not the warmest climate.
