  1. I want to know what chip this is too!
  2. If you go to an automotive supply shop (like halfords if you live in the UK), then the laquer they sell for cars comes in a big variety of colours and works well.
  3. Anyone who likes to see 5150 style guitars that people have built should look here: http://www.eddievanhalen.com/cgi-bin/index...oard=evhguitars
  4. What russ said. Its a good book. Good luck!
  5. I have some gold ones on one of my guitars and they keep tune well. Really cheap too.
  6. What sort of guitar is it? (On a floyd rose there are 2 studs towards each edge of the bridge, you just turn them to raise or lower the bridge.) If its a les paul style guitar (with a tunomatic bridge) you could do it with a screwdriver, if its a strat I think you need an alan key.
  7. Its not really my sort of music, but I've been exposed to plenty of this sort of thing from my brother and peers, so I know what to compare it to I definitely think it needs some sort of more memorable riff I dont think I could even hear the bass, so I would agree that it needs more presence in the mix. The recording is still distorted pretty bad, but I suppose thats because you used Audacity and not a professional studio The bit I really dont like is the sort of quieter bit that keeps coming in where it sounds like a load of short repeated notes and then as hammer on. Theres one of them around 39 seconds in. Its just my opinion, but I think it doesnt fit. All the above is all criticism, but overall I think its pretty good. As I said, not really what I'd choose to listen to, but I can appreciate it.
  8. Wow, nice! I wish I had access to a CNC.
  9. Looking great! I really like explorers. I'd stain it a nice wine red sort of colour, but thats just me. I like red. You've nearly got enough waste wood there to make another guitar!
  10. It was a bolt on, a standard, strat type one. B&Q have MDF, Plywood, and Pine. If you were going to pay for the wood, you would probably be wiser to spend your money on something half decent.
  11. Yes: http://www.stewmac.com/cgi-bin/hazel.cgi?a...ml&CURRENCY=GBP But if you dont want to spend the money to buy wood, I doubt you want to spend that much on the neck either! You can get cheaper bolt on necks, some very cheap ones on eBay, but I wouldnt be too sure of the quality. (I bought one and it was actually very good, cost £15, I was probably lucky though) Where do you live? I live in the UK and in my quest for free wood I put a notice on a webste called 'freecycle'. I got a reply within 15mins (!) from someone with an old dry barn full of the stuff. As for door wood, I'm no expert, but I think most are hollow. I can empathise with your lack of money, I am in the exact same situation!
  12. I'm making one right now from an old table! Here's the thread if you are interested If you are just making the body, then its even less risk, the neck is the most crucial stucturally. Do you know what wood the table is made of? Some woods are better suited for guitar making than others. Good luck! EDIT: What they said too! they beat me to it
  13. The CA I have came with a little tube of 'de-bonder', so maybe it can be reversed.
  14. Halfords had it when I last went, but it was quite a while ago.
  15. I really like it... except the handle thing. I know its part of the design of the jem, but It would look much better without it IMHO. Are you planning to do the inlay yourself? Good Luck!
  16. I like that idea! I'm very much liking the semi hollow one too!
  17. Anyone know where I can get pickguard blanks that are big enough in the UK? Preferably B/W/B but plain black would be ok, I suppose. Everywhere I look seems to only sell them big enough for strat pickguards.
  18. The more I look at them, the more I think I maybe prefer 2 and 3 a little... I like 1 on paper, but on the real thing the shape of the top horn isnt quite the same, and I think that it might look better if the pickguard didnt cover it, that way I could carve the horn a little nicer. There's some nice wood grain pattern on the bit that 3 leaves uncovered on the lower horn, but it would be less convenient for the wiring if the pickguard didnt go to the end of the horn. I like 5 too, but I'm thinking it could be better for future on a guitar that has simpler electronics and less of a need for a pickguard. If I were going to use 5, I would rearrange the knobs to a Les Paul style layout.
  19. I like it a lot. I agree with what whitey said, it looks comfortable and practical, which isnt usually the case with more pointy body shapes. Keep us upadated!
  20. Very nice! The heel looks way nicer and more 'flowing' than on a gibson.
  21. Thanks for the opinions! Maybe I should post a poll in the vote section. I'm not entirely sure I'd go with what ever won the vote though, I need to decide for myself really. People like 1,2,3, and 5 then... that narrows it down! I think I can pretty much write off #4, if I was going to go for the more simple approach, I think #5 beats #4 hands down. Damn my indecisiveness!
  22. If it were me I'd go with black and black, like you said... or maybe black and chrome. Depends on how the gray looks in real life though, the chrome might make it look duller in comparison. I look forward to seeing the finished bass!
