  1. lol! maybe. that reminds me of the story of how shawn lane couldn't play a single note on SRV's strat...
  2. a friend of mine had been playing wizard necks for so long, whe he picked up my strat, he could barely play a note. i don't want to become like that. i'll play anything, but i do prefer to play the middle ground, in terms of the neck thickness and action. i prefer 10's for strings, but won't mind using other gauges. i'm largely a rhythm player. guess that's one of the reasons why i'm not really picky.
  3. yes. the use of spray cans has been extensively discussed in other threads, check them out for pointers.
  4. ... or get them off eBay and pay more for it. some sellers even have the gall to set the buy it now for about twice the original price.
  5. joe satriani steve vai eric johnson the edge zakk wylde evh slash randy rhoads carlos santana srv
  6. so, is it a choice between 10 days of anxiety and an eternity of regret? let me think hard on it...
  7. I love their music. I've always looked for an electric guitar sound that was heavy but being brutally loud. I'm not sure if you'll get the picture, but to me Collective Soul was one of the bands that came closest with songs like "Heavy," "Precious Declaration" and "Why Pt. 2."
  8. well, that was interesting. thanks for the info.
  9. yes, sanding sealer is transparent. sealer will also prevent the wood from absorbing the finish. i'm still surprised how much lacquer my maple headstock absorbed on a spot where i sanded through the sealer.
  10. well, i don't think it's the same question. still feels redundant though. anyway, as Brian has implied, only you can really answer that for yourself, camcool.
  11. for the Les Paul sound, maybe the L-500C and R would cut it. another option would be the higher inductance L-450's. i can't speak from experience, though. just check out their forum.
  12. i can't decide... i do have two strats, though.
  13. yes, they do. i have an HT-10 kit and my plans for it got ruined when the body came sealed. several other people in this very forum with saga kits had the same problem.
  14. well, it takes patience. that's for sure.
  15. those streaks look deep. i have a similar problem with this saga kit i was working on. i like the guitar body too. it's got that badass vibe going, while being classy at the same time... now i'm confused.
  16. Litch already posted some pics of scrap figured maple painted with duplicolor metalcast in some other thread. It looked great.
  17. i don't mind. i don't see how this affects the way i post here, anyway. if "family-oriented" language is too relative, how about GP-rated language? anyway, i think profanity is only secondary to the actual bashing and insulting (regardless of language used) some members may be receiving here. are you sure about this?
  18. a few of us have used food color mixed with polycrylic. so far, my paint job hasn't faded yet. someone here also used fabric dye. search for the threads on them. but before anyone starts nominating my post in the bad advices thread, i urge you to look to using the more accepted dyes, the ones meant for woodwork (i.e. guitar finishing). use alternative methods only for the extreme last resort.
  19. i just checked for myself. yes, there are quite a few testimonials on the J- and P-bass pickups.
  20. there might also be something in their testimonials page. emailing or calling the lawrences themselves might also be of some help. now that you've mentioned it, it does seem a little odd that there's little info on them.
  21. have you checked the message board in billlawrence.com?
  22. isn't the neck heel standard-sized? you can always go for the contoured heel option. finishing is extensively discussed in another part of the forum.
  23. i was hoping you'd say that. i was wondering why krylon's customer support didn't recommend spraying clear coat over the x metal paint. now i sort of know why. i'll only be using the base coat if that's the exact effect i want.
  24. do you think the krylon x metals is an equivalent of the duplicolor metalcast? http://www.krylon.com/main/product_templat...product_details i know most of you prefer duplicolor, but i don't have that option, if ever.
