  1. Umm, why would you bother? I mean, the low B will give you all the notes that drop D will, what's the point of downtuning?
  2. Okay, I'm just going to come right out and admit my utter ignorance here. If they're in phase, what does that affect? Do they need to be out of phase to be humbucking? I'm going with simple bridge/neck/both wiring on this guitar so I don't care about the fancy coil-splitting/tapping etc ..
  3. Ahh, good, that's what I was hoping to hear. I just didn't know if mounting it at 180° would make it all out of phase or something weird like that. Disaster averted, yay! Thanks guys. Man do I love this forum. Two lessons I've learned from this: 1. When ordering pickups, make sure you know if you're getting zebra or reverse-zebra. 2. Pickups have very strong magnets that will make the corner of your monitor look funny if they are sitting on your desk right next to it.
  4. Good news is I received a shipment today from Musician's Friend. Got a bunch of stuff for my guitar, including straplocks, strap, pickups, etc. Bad news is, the pickups aren't right. They're the right models [sD Jazz and Duncan Custom] but the bobbin colors aren't right. I ordered zebra pickups - one bobbin black, one cream. I didn't care which was which, but I wanted the outside bobbins to match and the inside bobbins to match. [This will become clear in a bit.] Probem is, they match the same way. The bridge side bobbin of both pickups is cream, the neck side black. This isn't what I wanted. I guess I took a chance, but when I saw that both pickups were described as zebra, I assumed they followed the SD specs on this. IE: on a bridge pickup, zebra means the cream bobbin is bridge-side, black is neck-side. On a neck pickup, the black bobbin is bridge-side, the cream one is neck-side. Well, turns out that the bridge pickup I got is zebra, but the neck pickup is reverse-zebra. The long and the short of it is, what can I do? Is it possible to mount the pickup backwards, or will that lead to problems? Is it possible to somehow alter the pickup and reverse the bobbins? Should I try to exchange it with Seymour Duncan for a proper colored one? Or should I stop being so **** retentive about the whole thing and just deal with it? Any help would be appreciated. EDIT: Here's a chart to explain the problem a little better: Seymour Duncan Zebra Chart I want the upper configuration, but what I have is the upper left pickup and the lower right pickup.

    Two Pots

My common sense tells me that the pot closest to the bridge should adjust the bridge pickup, the one closest to the neck should adjust the neck pickup. But it's your guitar, you could put the pots on the back if you want.
  6. He's the guitarist for the Offspring. And, yeah, 3-chord wonder is about right. Though some of it's really catchy.
  7. Complicated controls are something I'll never understand. I mean, if you like them, that's great .. but even 5-way switching is more than I need. A 3-way switch and two humbuckers is where it's at!
  8. I did send them an email, but haven't heard anything back yet. The StephenKing.com people will be intimidating enough I'm sure. And maybe the Tolkien people are investigating but they just didn't send me an email to tell me about it.
  9. Yay! Thanks a lot man, I appreciate it! The area I think you're talking about is the intersection of the butt and the "knee-rest," directly under the bridge, right? If so, it's actually smoother than it looks. The problem with taking using a JPEG to show a CAD drawing is that you can't zoom - so you're seeing a guitar that's 30+ inches long in the space of about 10 inches, and the resolution doesn't allow the curves to look as smooth as the actually are. I agree that, from the picture, it looks too sharp, but if I zoom in on it in CADkey, it's actually quite smooth. But again, thanks for passing it by the arty-type, I appreciate it!
  10. Teeheehee! Just got an email from the webmaster of StephenKing.com, he thanked me for the info and said they're checking into it now.
  11. I'm on a punk kick right now .. the CDs I have sitting on my desk [as opposed to those across the room on my CD rack] are: NOFX - So Long and Thanks for All the Shoes NOFX - The War on Errorism Bad Religion - Against the Grain Bad Religion - Generator Bad Religion - The Process of Belief No Use For A Name - Making Friends No Use For A Name - More Betterness! Lagwagon - Blaze Also sitting on my desk, but not punk: Dream Theater - Once in a LIVEtime Dream Theater - Live Scenes from New York Opeth - Blackwater Park A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step Tool - Undertow Bill Hicks - Rant in E-Minor
  12. Apparently my theory that people would like this one less was incorrect. Yeah, the Ric 650 was the original idea. I like it because it still has that same basic shape but isn't flat-butted and too "squat." The original can be seen in the "Possible Guitar Shape" thread. It's going to be neck through, built off a Carvin NT6K pre-made neck. I figured stability should be better. Thanks for the input, man. I thought about scalloping the lower cutaway ala PRS but decided, since there's not even a full two frets past the edge of the body, fret access should be fine. BTW, you sure that was the right link dude? I mean, it was funny, but I didn't see anything guitar related.
  13. You ain't kidding on that one! Thanks for the wishes of success, and I'll throw'em right back.
  14. No problem mate - I'm on cable, so I just got the file [luckily it came through just fine]. I like your headstock design - probably won't fit what I'm going to do but it will serve for inspiration. Oh, and BTW, do you have any pics of this guitar? It looks freaking amazing in wireframe!
  15. Ouch, 13 meg? Don't know if that'll get through email or not. If not, d'you have an AIM or Y!M account? Maybe we could transfer it that way. Or, you could just take a screenshot and send it to me. Hopefully the mail goes through, though.
  16. Hey, thanks man, though I'm surprised someone other than me likes it. For some reason I thought people might think it's ugly. Anyway, yeah, I can open both DXF and DWG files in CADkey [though it doesn't always import them correctly]. I'd love to see your design. My email address is alek@threespace.org, zip it on over anytime.
  17. That's a very nice video, Hyunsu! So far your neck is looking great!
  18. Okay, I've incorporated the suggestions of Wes and others regarding stability, by moving the entire body closer to the headstock by about 3/4". I also added a "nubbin" to the upper horn. Thoughts? I have to say, I anticipate that a majority of you won't like this body design, but I love it! This is definitely what I'm going to use .. unless anyone has reservations on the stability? I know I also am going to change the headstock - I just don't like the one on it right now - far too bland. It's just been difficult coming up with a straight-pull headstock design that isn't ugly or a PRS ripoff. Anyway, I'm specifically looking for thoughts on stability, but if you want to comment on the looks, feel free. Just know that I'm set on them.
  19. Oops. That makes two the webmaster of Stephenking.com has gotten today.
  20. I think if the unfinished Strat runs again, I'll vote for it. I think it'd be hilarious to see it on the front page of PG.
  21. Well, he MAY be an authorized seller. But I seriously doubt it. And if he's selling the LOTR collection, which is 3 books [4 if you count The Hobbit], imagine what Stephen King's people will do to him for selling *47* books.
