  1. Not a shot Ken, sorry. It isn't a PRS doublecut hardtail and doesn't have a quilt top. You won't stand a chance.
  2. I would check toxicity charts (i would myself, but alas I have 4 hours before waking up for work, and I'm just lazy in general). Any strange, uncommon wood would definitely be served well by checking.
  3. Agreed, nice clean work. Interesting pickup combo too. Is this going to be a set neck or bolt-on?
  4. Not a fan of the "nose" of the headstock, but it's coming along nicely.
  5. Oh man, are you kidding? Building that all-wood guitar was the best tonal improvement I've ever seen. Metal parts interfere with the pickup's magnetic field, everyone knows that It sounds like you want a P-Switch for what you're asking. And no, the middle pos on an LP switch is one coil from each pickup. Unless you want coil tapping (which I think you don't, coil tapping = noise, and not conducive to sweeping), go with the P-switch. Who knows, maybe your ears are closer to Eric J's than mine, and you'll hear vast differences in the soundscapes provided by the switch. Best of luck!
  6. Can we go over again why buying a $16 switch isn't a solution to this problem?
  7. If I recall correctly, Borge, it involves stripping the tape off the pickup sides, nipping wires, and a bunch of other jazz. Nevertheless, might be interesting to find for the OP. So why can't you sweep pick with the bridge pickup? Roll off the highs a bit and you're all set. Well, so long as you're watching Michael Romeo videos, he uses a Tone Zone pickup in the neck position now. Listen to his solo sound recently, especially on Paradise Lost (album) and you'll get a sense of what his deal is. I thinks it's loverly RE: JP middle pos. The coils in series will give you a Gibson 3-way sound. Parallel will give you a Strat-quack sound. Since the JP sig guitar has a 3-way switch, I'm willing to put money on it being a series-wired middle position, in which case you wouldn't need a fancy megaswitch. On the topic of megaswitches, they give you different tonal options. E-Switch automatically does coil tapping for you, P-Switch is a PRS position copy. The switch where you can put in any wiring combo is the Superswitch, which is a total beast and requires an advanced engineering degree to even purchase. In all honesty, I have the P-Switch in my V, and I can't hear a huge difference in pos'ns 2 and 4. One is a bit more trebly, one a bit more bassy, but that's about it. Nothing to pull an Eric Johnson over.
  8. 1. Dimarzio X2N. As far as I'm concerned, Michael Romeo IS sweep picking, however it's a bridge pickup, not what you need. 2. Yes, but both pickups need to be 4-conductor. 3. Funny, I've never heard anything about Petrucci's "middle" position. But if that's what you want, that what it'll give you. I have the switch, and I like it a lot, though I would say that the difference between the positions is more pronounced on clean settings, much less so with high gain. I play it through my V3 cranked and the differences are slight.
  9. I might go see The Headless Harlot....... Got any larger pics, Alan? Are those tapered laminates? Actually, come to think of it, you might benefit by making a limited run of Headless Harlots available only around Halloween-time.
  10. Impressive as always, wez. I like the satin look it has too. Now, as one who has experimented with both tung and danish oil, would you say danish is better for a satin feel/"gloss"? My next build is going to be mostly mahogany, and as much as the gloss of tru-oil worked with my last build, I wanted to do a satin like the finish on my Carvin.
  11. ....And we can get to work on building the lightest, most powerful boombox in the world! I want one for each shoulder!
  12. Michael, check out BlackMachine guitars for an idea of what Matt is getting at. www.blackmachine.net They average between the high 20 and mid 30mm thick. I would REALLY like to play one!
  13. Oh jeez, that's a keeper. What a way to make that maple pop, congrats! Is that natural binding on the sides, or does the maple continue under the binding? I'm citing the top of the horn, specifically. Not too keen on the shelf at the center of the knobs, but I'm thinking that it will come together nicely once there's hardware on.
  14. I vote fill the inside with palm leaves and holy water and make it a hallow body Joking aside, I'm going with super thin, too. It would just be a shame to lose all that wood. Is there any way to salvage it? Maybe slice a bit off the top to use as veneer on another project?
  15. If I do remember correctly, aren't neo speakers supposed to produce a flatter frequency response? Or I could be pulling that completely out of the air. It's happened before. What's the difference in weight between a regular 12" and a neo 12"?
  16. I'm really digging this one. My only comment would be that because the fretboard edge is slanted, and the headstock is a 6-inline, my mind wants the V body to be offset as well, more like a Rhoads than a Gibson. The bevels are nice; they complement the shape well, especially the rounded cutout. Also, further proof that you can't go wrong building guitars and listening to Judas Priest.
  17. Michael A. playing an Ormsby. That's truly a good day. How does the blackwood rate on the tonal scale? It's certainly beautiful. Are the pickups still tappable? push/pull pot, I assume.
  18. Hey Perry, is that a textured top on the top one? The lower horn looks to be catching some funky reflections.
  19. The black burst looks good... but that has got to be the most uncomfortable placement for a jack imo. My Rhoads is all I play anymore, and I'd hate to have a cord hanging down between my legs
  20. What a beautiful setup! I see that working great......... for traditionally-shaped guitars
  21. I dunno, Rick. Wasn't this one of the builds where he was experimenting with the tonal qualities of plywood under a thick paint finish?
  22. Nice in-progress shot! The only other comment I would have is that I didn't know the top wood looked that good; Myself, I'd have eased up a bit on the dark stain/burst, because you lose a bit of the cool look on the top.
  23. I like that body style! Do you have any more non-artsy pictures? like, a plain ol' front shot?
