  1. My experience with MinWax was positive overall. I get a lot of people asking about the vintage look. It dries fairly fast and I was able to do multiple coats a day. BUT, it does not burn in well. When it was wet sanded the layers of poly showed. I had to put more coats on while the previous coat was still tacky. It polished to a very nice gloss and the finish is hard.
  2. MinWax polyurethane did yellow. Leaves the vintage look. Iv'e read that a lot of MFg.'s make a poly that dries clear. It's a very tough finish that dries fast. Use an automotive type if you are going to decide on using poly. you could also try a Preval spray unit to spray with. Here
  3. I thought Fender used 25.5" scale. Shows how little I knowQ
  4. You didn't have retired and doing nothing on the vote for us old folk.
  5. From Tutorial Section I had very good luck mixing steel wool with vineger in a jar for a few weeks. Makes a great fret board dye.
  6. I don't know about the "shining like glass", but I know that steel wool can embed little pieces of it self into the finish and ruin it. I use 1500,1800,2400, 3600, 4000, 6000, 8000, and 12000 micro grit. It works great to a high polish. Just sand until all shine disappears and move on to the next one untill you have an incredible gloss. Use 3M Finesse it for a final finish. I just don't trust steel wool. I think it's fine for furniture not a guitar. Good luck. here
  7. UMMM! Did he use a naughty word? Maybe Dickin with a capital is OK. He might be refering to someone???? Sleep depravation adds up again!

????Can't decide whether I like them or not????
  9. Here are some good ideas on wiring, grounding and shielding.
  10. Some ideas. here Read thru the Reranch tutorial here here
  11. UMMM! I don't think a Gibson nut will work. They are normally set at the end of the fret board and the Fender is cut into the fret board.
  12. What is the width on the bridge? What is the nut width? Is there a nut on the Fender neck already?
  13. The nut should match with the neck. Lets say the neck is 1 11/16" at the nut end than the nut would be 1 11/16", and 1 3/4 neck would be 1 3/4 nut. OK? EDIT: Blank nuts Here Using a blank nut use somethng like this Measuring Tool Plus you will need filesHere Nut info I hope this helps!
  14. In my humble opinion the inlays are wonderful pieces of work. Looking forward for the finished project.
  15. It definitely is tough stuff. It is easy to work with, but not very hard. It scratches easily, but I don't think that should be a problem. Due to the softness of the UHMW my humble opinion would be that it wouldn't transfer vibrations like a harder more brittle material. Hey, B*** do I know. You could try it, being you have access to it, and let us know. Or, wait for a more knowledgeable answer!
  16. How many signed up for the carribust comp? I will be doing a P/J bass. I hope!
  17. In total agreement! I have an automatic in the car and a 5 speed in my 4X. The 5 speed does not get driven much, except to go get muddy. MMMM! Mud.
  18. Black stain with a fine black burst.
  19. 25 YEARS, MOST IF PLAYING THE BASS.
  20. If it as I am thinking, I would remove the jack (tie a piece of string to it for pulling back through the hole when your done). Desolder the pickup wire. Pull the pickup up, wire and all through the bridgeplate. Reroute the bridgeplate and put it back together again.
