  1. Wes, you're right! I was arguing over a completely different brand and type of guitar. So, after you do some work on it will it be OK, or just a piece of junk? BTW are you going to leave an appropriate feedback on Harmony Central??? As I stated early on in the thread I have already replaced some parts, and made a new nut. Soon the electronics will be replaced. I have to keep the basses nobody will ever pay for what i'll end up putting into them.
  2. I like it for what it's worth and I normally don't like that general style of guitar.
  3. From what I've read if your humidity is high the finish generally takes a lot longer to dry. Is the guitar in a warm, dry environment, or a cooler, damp one?
  4. The link came up as microsoft.com????? Your website is nice though. Just got lost there dreaming for awhile.
  5. I've used bone before (from a cow). It was bleached, but bone for nut material also comes unbleached (more yellow in color). I'm sure deer bone would work fine for nuts and saddles. I used my bench grinder to shape it (wear a repirator). I don't know if the fumes are harmful, but the smell is terrible. Hope this helps.
  6. Wes, I think you are being fairly hard on a "low cost" instrument. Nobody said they were perfect, but for the money my basses are fine for what they need to do. They are not Agile, SX which I think are even less expensive. For the money I still think they are a better deal than lower end Fenders for up to 4 times the money. I didn't experience any of the problems you mentioned. The neck pocket is very tight and the finish came off just like lacquer. So I assumed it was lacquer and it has hardened nicely. The only flaws I had was a few bubbles on the finish behind the neck. 1500 grit took care of them. BTW the neck is still straight after a year of playing. I still play mine all the time, because I don't have anything else. At least not until I purchase a big enough bandsaw to resaw all my maple I've been hoardiing.
  7. Nice work for a moldy, fungus covered guitar!
  8. Use heat shrink tube after soldering on new (longer) wire. It will shield well and look professional. You can purchase it at most hardware stores, or electrical stores.
  9. Very interesting! Did you do the bending yourself? It looks like mahogany, right? I like the carving on the headstock. Looknig forward to seeing the finished project, with a sound sample.
  10. This made me wonder about Warmoth and USA custom guitars. Warmoth builds a lot of different style guitars while USACG sell Fender knockoff's. Why can they copy others guitar styles and not get into trouble???
  11. Wes, I replaced the nut, bridge, tuners, and knobs. Excluding the bridge I replaced the rest to gold just because I wanted to. I also filed the fret ends ( can't stand rough frets), did a complete setup and intonation. I still play this SX bass as it is my only working bass at this time. And my caribburst P bass is also an SX from Rondo Music. $119.00 and $109.00. Made in China. BTW it is cheaper to purchase off Rondo's site than using Ebay (for those who might look at EBay). I'm sure you will be surprised, Wes. I stand by what I said earlier a great deal when I compared my basses to Fender. Yes, even the American standards! The sound of the pickups is OK, not a Seymore, Bartolini, or other quility pickups but they hold their own in the mix and are quiet.
  12. Looks good. I like the natural look on the maple.
  13. Stinks for a few days. Long enough for the vinegar to absorb into the wood. Yes! It darkens the wood significantly.
  14. I liked the early stuff, so I have to say............?
  15. You could try putting vinegar in a jar with nail or steel wool. Let them sit for a few weeks and it make a great dye for rosewood. It is in the tutorial section I believe. Iv'e used it with good luck. It soaks in quickly. Just buff off the reidue and you're set.
  16. I don't think it would. A Tele has a fairly large bridge plate surrounding the PU.
  17. The Warthog tone sent shivers up the ol' spine. Wow! What guitar was that played on? Sounded like 24.75" scale! Very good tone on all the pickups. Now where are the bass PU's????????
  18. Wow that looks like a pro job on the finish. Did you use a powered buffer? Me likes it!
  19. Here is the web site. Here are some reviews.
  20. I'm with Hyunsu. It sure looks like Douglas fir??? Where did you purchase it, Hardware/lumber store?
  21. Welcome to the PG forum. I would suggest reading a lot of old threads and tutorials around here. There IS some good information.
  22. Using the truss rod to set action is bad advice. Set truss rod to where there is little or no bow and then set action by lowering or raising the strings by the bridge and/or nut. Read here.
  23. Stew Mac's fret saw junk??? I never would have thought that of any of their tools!
