  1. My son has been taking an interest in the bass, so I'm thinking about making him one.
  2. Ours only has Pine Oak (red) small bits of Poplar 7 Cedar
  3. Thanks for the clarification on that. Like I said I have not tried using shellac before. I read in that magazine that the guy will use linseed oil first then half an hour later use the thin shellac. Anyway, thanks for the info.
  4. Looks great man. What do you plan for the body shape? Scratch that...I missed it in your previous post
  5. Yeah call StewMac. Send them the pics and ask if they could send you a replacement. Don't let them make you pay shipping either, their QC team should have spotted that one. Better luck with it. I generally try to avoid buying from StewMac, only because I like making things myself, but their stuff is usually top quality.
  6. Yeah I was about to ask. I talked to our local Warwick dealer as well and they said that I could get them, but Warwick would want to know the serial of the unit it was to replace. I got the impression that they (warwick) didn't want to just sell them to any tom dick or harry on the street.
  7. Hey Prostheta, Where do you plan to get your bridge hardware?
  8. Looks great. I have heard of mixing denatured alcohol with Shellac to penetrate and harden...it also helps the shellac cure faster. I have not tried it, but read about it in a woodworkers magazine.
  9. Ahh..well there you have it. From www.Warwick.de FAQ # 019 Q: What is the fingerboard radius of my Warwick bass? A: The fingerboard radius is as follows: 4 string 500 mm (20") 5 string standard 640 mm (25.5") 5 string broad neck / 6 string standard 1200 mm (48") Yeah anything over 20" seems flat to me
  10. Hahahaha. I was talking to by buddy Bobby about it the other night. We decided it would be like American Chopper, but with wood. Yeah, it would be cool to find a sponsor like the Discovery Channel or something like that. Maybe PBS could fit us in after the New Yankee Workshop
  11. post a pic of the headstock. It can be easy to fix if you still have it.
  12. No I just finished a walnut bass. It's bright, but not too bright. If you are worried about the brightness, replace the purpleheart with something else
  13. 1 You can make a radius routing jig or get radius sanding blocks (Or if you have a long enough belt sander can use that) 2 Depends on your tastes 3 Not really...there is no set in stone rule 4 Im sure there is one 5 Depends on your tastes. Warwicks are flat, and play great. Fingerboard radiusing can be as dificult as you make it. My advice is practice practice practice on scraps until you know how to do what you need. Otherwise you will end up with a fingerboard you dont like. I will say that radiudes fingerboards require more steps and more attention to detail. Good luck
  14. Cordless Dremels are useless. Unluess you can get your work done in under the five minutes it takes to spend the bat.
  15. My camera came with a remote controller. So I set it up on a tripod and keep the controller in my pocket. Yeah editing is the hard part because you need a good machine with decent software. If I put the videos on my friends server we will have unlimited bandwidth usage on it, so I don't know about having to clog up PGF with it. It would be cool if they were all in the same file format as well as content format.
  16. Its all wood Thanks, I turned a block of canerey on the lathe and then sliced them on the band saw. Then I drilled the center hole on the drill press followed by a plug cutter. Then I did a roundover on the surface with a dremmel. Drilled a small hole for inlace Then Sanded a slope off of the edge

If you think that freehand routing is a good idea, stop and slap yourself then make a jig. I'm still learning, but this is the best woek that I have done so far. Thanks for the honest feedback Thanks, The EMGs are great low cost pups. They are simple passive and easy to install. The side of the fingerboard is Inlace. Its granuals of turquoise in an expoxy...really easy to work with.
  18. Here is a bass I have been working on the last few weeks. 4 string EMG Select pups Ibanez bridge & tuners Inlace inlay Back is Walnut, Canery & Purpleheart Middle layer is maple Top is Cherry & Purpleheart Bubinga Fingerboard 29" Scale And Clicky And Clicky And Clicky And Clicky And Clicky And Clicky And Clicky And Clicky And Clicky And Clicky And Clicky And Clicky And Clicky And Clicky It plays like the Devil too.
  19. Awesome! I can't wait. My wife and I are about to move into our new house next week, so I don't expect this idea to move much in December, but come Jan I will be doing the same.
  20. Yeah, I understand that. I found a decent canon last yearfor about $250.00. But editing is time consuming.
