    You got it bro- 24 frets! I consider myself MONDO lucky to have stumbled into that one. It is one BAD@$$ guitar alright. Only thing- it weighs a TON! The bodies of those are made of mahogany, but I swear this one feels like rock maple. I have another of the same guitar and it's WAY lighter. Pawnshops take a lot of patience. I would guess out of all the pawnshop visits I have made, I'll see an underpriced treasure 1 out of 100 times. I have bought two pawnshop treasures, ever.

    Hey Slayer- I went through the same thing when I put some Mighty Mite MotherBuckers in one of my Hamer Blitzes. Have since lost the diagram, but I want to say I got it direct from the Mighty Mite website. Here's a link to the Blitz. I think you'll appreciate it.     Hey all- StewMac has stopped selling these. The Schaller Sure Claw is my personal favorite replacement for the trem claw and those awkward screws. It replaces them with a plate. claw and worm gear that is adjusted with a hex wrench. Anybody have one laying around or know where I can get one? I know my description was lame, so all you Floyd players go to Schaller's website and do a search for "sure claw" and see what I am talking about. The sure claw makes doing a setup WAY easier! I have three Floyd equipped Hamers, two with Sure Claws in them. I need one for the third. Again- anyone? Anyone?

    Cool thread idea! Mine- Body- White Korina offset Flying V- Like a traditional V, but with a smaller lower wing. Not pointy like a Rhoads but rounded, again, like a regular V. No pickguard. Neck-Maple, thin shredder profile, Explorer-style banana headstock. Rosewood board, trap inlays, wyldbil logo on headstock Finish- Trans cherry Bridge- Floyd, hence the maple neck Electronics- One pickup- DiMarzio X2N, with just one volume knob, push/pull coil tap Recessed Dunlop strap locks

    True, but that's why the gods made knives and sandpaper! Besides, you aren't sure of a good bond unless you do have a bit of squeezeout. On the other hand, I have seen your work MZ1, and have no criticism whatsoever for your methods. I still drool to think about that single-pickup Flying V you made. That thing is a MONSTER! Slayer- Can't wait to see what you end up with. You have cool ideas and look to be off to a good start!

    Grain orientation is #1, but I have a small suggestion. Two words: Gorilla Glue. If you use it though, make sure you have it clamped like you want it because it AIN'T comin' lose! I have done three headstocks with this stuff, and two of those I was told "It'll never work". Those guitars have seen a couple years' hard service since then with no problem!

    Kizmet, baby. Before I got all the way through your post, I was thinking a banana headstock would make for an interesting mix on that one. I think that would look pretty cool. It would be a kind of neat marriage of two different eras of the Freddie VanHalen guitar. BTW- Have you any experience with the Lawrence XL-500? Some folks I trust who know me & my playing pretty well are swearing this would be "the" pickup for me. I play pretty much wide open through a Carvin X-100-B full stack. I am, to date, a DiMarzio Super Distortion kind of guy although I have had a couple of successful runs with a Dimarzio X2N, a Steve's Special and a Mighty MiteMotherbucker. Any wise words in that arena?

    Sound: To my experience, ebony makes a "brighter, snappier" sound. Rosewood is a bit warmer and mellower. Playability: This is also to my experience: (ymmv) Ebony, being a harder wood, makes my fingertips sore! I have owned three ebony-boarded guitars through the years and hated playing them for that exact reason. I would TRY to play them for awhile and sold them off. For this reason, I am a dyed-in-the-wool rosewood man. Rosewood feels comfortable under my fingers Disclaimer: This is a very subjective topic and very much subject to individual experience and opinion. I just expressed mine. Again, your mileage may vary. I know lots of folks who prefer ebony boards and good on 'em. Keeps PRS able to upcharge their already overpriced gear!

    First, is it white limba or black limba? White, I might go with a yellowed korina look like the old Gibson Vs and Explorers. Black limba, I might think about a nice figured maple top. I have seen some beautiful Gibson LPs and some killer Hamers made with blacklimba and figured maple tops.

    Cool idea. If you're not just hellbent on making your own pickup, you could probably track down an electric mandolin pickup for it. You could bring a whole new dimension to Hawaiian music!

    I have Mighty Might Motherbucker Zebras in one of my Hamer Blitz models and they really do scream. Got both of them for around $50 shipped! Not bad, methinks. I'd say their other stuff is a fair bet as well.

    DUDE! Way to go.You are well on your way to competing with a mysterious fellow named MAX, who handbuilds higher quality dead-on "Gibsons" for several rock stars. (Think Lenny Kravitz is playing Gibsons? guess again- MAX! Slash's main LP? yup, MAX.) If I could afford you, I'd be ponying up for my dream LP in a heartbeat knowing I was getting a true handmade guitar and not a CNC cookie-cutter production line axe. GREAT WORK! wyldbil sez two thumbs up.

    Agreed. I think that inverse pickguard looks pretty badass. Can't wait to see whatever you end up with.

    Those guitars are SWEET. Do you have access to Photoshop? There is a setting that allows you to "turn up the light" on those dark pictures. If you'd like, I could do that for you and e-mail the jpegs back to you.

    Thanks for the tips! Now a DUMB question- where do I buy the holo material? The wrecked Hamer Special is getting this treatment, NO QUESTION!

    I like that a LOT. How did you do the finish? (If you don't mind sharing...) I am fixing up a wrecked Hamer for a stage beater and that would look perfect in the KI$$ trib I play in.

    That is going to be one blanketty-blank-blank-blankin' BEAUTIFUL guitar. I, for one, like the look of the capped top and the striped back. Can't wait to see more pix. By the way- when I saw the outlines, I had doubts about your body design. I could not have been more wrong, because seeing it fleshed out in actual wood it is a KILLER design. Keep up the EXCELLENT work!
