  1. Sure I remember this axe! Who could forget? Sounds like a good idea to make the body heavier. Will it be the same shape? Anyways...keep it yellow! Will be far, far cooler with the body design/size to have an "eyepiercing" colour like yellow. About balance, you could put the strap on the headstock instead. Probably won't look very good, but I reckon the balance will be much better (or maybe it is strapped to the headstock?).
  2. Nice work! The more cabs I see, the more I want to build one. Bummer that I only use combo amps
  3. Nice axe! Feels a little odd that the neck and the body lams are offset though.
  4. Unfortunately, I don't own a metal detector, and I don't know anyone who does either. But I think I've got an area where it might be metal pieces, this will be thoroughly checked however.
  5. Yeah, I'm very lucky/happy Sorry to have mislead everyone that I'm handing out free maple though! It'll be veri interesting to see the log being cut to boards, that's something you don't see every day. And yes, the wood will be dried at least a year before I even think about touching it. Might sit a little longer, we'll just have to see. I'm even planning of drying it in my room since it's always about 5 degrees hotter than the rest of the house in the summer (and probably winter as well). Any thoughts about that? About shrinkage...I am cutting them oversized. How much I can't tell yet, since I'd like to use some of it for a neck-through (if I get enough wood out of the log), and therefore I don't know how thick I should make them. Any suggestions? I reckon for neck-through I'll need about 2" (before drying), and maybe 1-2/5" for bolt on/set-neck maybe. I don't know really.
  6. Scored a log of FREE maple today! My neighbour used to have a tree in his yard, which was cut down (before I started building guitars ). Well today he cut down the rest of the log, and I went over and asked if I could take the biggest piece, and he said yes! He would've dumped it in the scrapyard anyways so. It's about 80cm long, and about 35cm in diameter. I don't know if this will be useable at all, but hey! It was free! Might as well give it a shot. My "father in law" (me and my girlfriend isn't married yet ) has a mill in the village they live in, so this friday I will take the log with me and get it cut. I really hope that I'll get some useable pieces out of it, since maple isn't exactly growing on trees were I live I've painted the freshly-cut end with an oilbased paint, since I don't know if I'll get it cut this weekend. Roger is one busy man I tell ye! Fingers crossed!
  7. With! Looks more classy than without. Snyggt jobbat!
  8. You could try to wipe the metal with a little oil. Don't know how much of a difference it makes, but it's worth a shot.
  9. Awesome work! Can't wait for it to be finished
  10. Nice Started carving the neck, and ordered the last parts (+ a little parts for the next one). When those get here, I will drill the mouting holes for the neck, and basically roughly finish the neck. Then its sanding, sanding, and a bit more sanding on the neck
  11. Okay! Well, when I think about it...Ibanez guitars (RG that is) usually have black headstocks. Well just have to see about that. It's easier to put on som paint on a natural neck than removing from a painted
  12. Thanks man! Feel free to take inspiration if you want! Yeah, I'm not that experienced, and a light board probably wasn't the best to start out with, but it's not like I'm selling the guitar on anything I had thoughts of painting the headstock face, but I think it'll look to cheap. It'll probably look like a 50$ guitar from China, at least it does in my head. That, and I like black tuners on maple necks The whole neck will be clearcotaed, and I'm going to wetsand the back. Oh, and the neck is birch, not maple. Very small differences though, it looks exactly like my bass neck, which is all maple.
  13. Well, got my dremel back this weekend, and work kicked in immediately! The fingerboard is inlayed and radiused, and glued to the neck. The oval actually didn't turn out great, but since this is my first inlay (first fretboard too), It'll be fine. I realized tonight how much a light fingerboard shows flaws in routing compared to a dark one
  14. If you go for the flap disk, you should pick one with high grit paper. I don't know what options there are, but an angle grinder with a flap disk sands metal fast, and probably does even more to a piece of wood. An air powered grinder (as DC Ross linked) is probably a better choice, since they are a lot more controllable, and not as harsh as an electric.
  15. Truly a beautiful guitar! As previously said, a bound headstock would be nice. Get 'er finished!
  16. Thank you sir. I must say I have had the same feeling about Teles. Its is an acquired taste however, like fine wine or Jack Daniels I have built a lot of guitars in my day, but I keep on coming back to the simple beauty of a Tele. It is the workhorse of the music industry. As much as Jimmy Page is recognized with a LP, Stairway to Heaven. as well as others was recorded with a TELE. I love them Roman Haha probably is I'm actually starting like teles more and more, and I got the pleasure to play a vintage tele last year, and the neck was really nice! But the stunning thing with teles is the sound! It's amazing! Heavy distortion, light blues dirt, or clean, doesn't matter, they still sound amazing. I'm planning a build (in the neverending list of guitar projectds) using a strat body and neck, with tele pickups and electronics. Should be nice
  17. And this post will start like every post I make in a Telecaster thread; The Tele shape isn't very appealing to me. However, this one is by far the best looking Tele I've ever seen, and if I'd ever build a Tele, it would look more or less identical to yours! Awesome build!
  18. That was SICK! Looks like you bought a brand new guitar!
  19. The colour of the body didn't really do it for me. Otherwise, it's lookin' great!
  20. I'm in about the same lines as Xanthus. Extreme shape, but not ridiculous. It was a nice touch with gold bevels, hardware, and pickup covers!
  21. That top is simply amazing! Really, REALLY impressive!
  22. Thanks! Had plans to get the dots done tonight, but they were shattered by the fact that I've run out of epoxy. Will get some tomorrow I hope, or maybe monday.
  23. Nice! Looks even better than I thought!
  24. FINALLY! I've finished a project at school, which makes it possible for me to get something done! I've built a Stewmac-ish fretslot mitre thingamajig for this project, and that's basically what has happened. Pics of the tool will be taken after paint. The fingerboard is slowly taking shape, and will hopefully be glued to the neck in a couple of days. The dots for the FB will be inlayed tomorrow I think. Depends on how long my girlfriend will be able to hold me down i guess The oval at 12th can't be done yet, since a friend of mine has borrowed my dremel, and it isn't fully shaped yet. It has been sanded better than on the pics though, so I'm gettin' there! http://jonasbygdemo.blogg.se/images/p1010615_1209155686.jpg http://jonasbygdemo.blogg.se/images/p1010621_1209155731.jpg http://jonasbygdemo.blogg.se/images/p1010622_1209155887.jpg http://jonasbygdemo.blogg.se/images/p1010625_1209155912.jpg
