  1. ive just reread my post and i think it looks like im just all out attacking everything you say which wasnt what i meant to do lol. sry if it did, nehu i was under the impression that Zakk quit rage because he thought people were just buying the music because it was popular and not for the message he was trying to get across. hence why go back to it since that would probablly not change anytime soon. with regards the whole rap/rock thing i look at jonathan davis more as opening up the doorway for music that combined that vocal rythme element but wouldnt really be rap. Twist for example, while not being sonically the same as rap does have a rythme to it thats heavily vocal based and so just further opened up a doorway for people to start being more creative with their vocals.obviouslly this is coming form my take on it being a vocal rythme based thing rather than actual wordplay but i hope you get where im coming from. Beastie boys early stuff is more where the start of rock and hip hop came about. the rythme while coming from the drums is mostlly hip hop styled rythmes and whilerap is there and in more recent stuff much more so, i think that its not their most defining feature. Kid Rock i just havnt got anytime for tbh lol. but while it isnt straight rap there is that rythmical element to it. the same with P.O.D. its nbot straight out rap but there is a heavy element to it Cypress hill are just doing their own thing. again i wouldnt say its Rap/Rock but you could sort of look at it as them deciding to start using samples of guitars etc and having live artists play them. again, sonically different, rythmically similar. so in conclusion. is jonathan davis a rapper? no. but does he have a vocal style that in itsself uses the kind of wordplay(maybe soundplay is a better word lol) and rythme that is found in rap. imo yes hope that clarifies where im coming from lol. feel free to disagree with it all. and re:Zwan, i was under the impression that it came out storming, but then i hardlly read music mags as i prefer to form my own opinion about things. a case of opiunion over evidence lol
  2. Must not laugh...must not giggle like a little girl....LOL damn you
  3. emo is so varied nowadays that its hard to just class something as straight Emo stuff like dashboard confessional and the get up kids would be on the light side of Emo. but then stuff like Finch, Funeral for a Friend and Glass Jaw are also heavilly emo influenced but to take that into account people have spawned all these new genras so Finch and FFAF are placed squarelly in ScrEamo while Glassjaw is quite often said to be ExtrEmo (i kid you not) personally i cant be arsed with them all so it just ognore it. espescially when it gets really silly and you get bands like Rival Schools (Awesome, AWESOME band really annoying that they only did one full album) put in the Post-Hardcore-Emo section Emo in the dashboard confessional form is said to have started off with bands like Weezer and bridged out alot from there. in the more extreme hardcore sense of it ive been told that alot of it was to do with the washington DC scene where there were alot of kids getting annoyed with the current music scene and just forming what very angsty/tempremental/doscordant bands which would normally split up at the first sign of any sort of record deal. Linkin Park would just be straight Nu Metal imho and i wouldnt put them anywhere near Emo (tho all of this is just personal opinion) and switch foot id just say is Pop Rock tbh. Good charlotte again is just plain Pop Punk i reckon and again this is the problem with calling things Emo. its all a matter of opinion. i've had arguments with friends of mine about whether Millencolin are an Emo band or not. as far as im concerned they play punk and just have a few slower more heartfelt (for want of a better word) songs. are they Emo? do they make "Emo" songs, yes. Are they Emo, Probablly not so just to finish off my rant RATM will almost certainlly not be getting back together Leaving Johnathan Davis out of the Rap/Metal Revolution is a silly thing to do imho (early Korn good new Korn bad before anyone gets pissy) Mary Star of the Sea (Zwan's first, last and only album is an awesome album) and wes, i agree totally, i put up with 3 years of having people say i listend to "slit your wrists music" because it had distorted guitars and screamed/roared vocals. i dislike judging music by anything other than how much i like it and musicianship so, happy happy joy joy laters all JG
  4. id be agreeing with wes here. jarring discordant sounds are the basis of what i play. if you find a tab for 43% burnt by dillinger escape plan then they use that instead of regular 3 string power chords.
  5. i have to say that its not so much the sound of the pedal first abnd foremost but the construction. i know that boss pedals are bombproof and generally sound pretty good. if the behringer pedals are just as bomb proof then i probablly would end up buying a few and just modding the hell out ofthem.
  6. my wallet says behringer my pride says stick with the originals my common sense says that im skint right now and if i want any more FX im gonna have to be building them lol
  7. hey now that is pretty cool. im not sure i like the knobs on it tbh but thats just a personal (and fairlly petty thing). id go for it
  8. is this think on a 2 prong plug? just that ive seen quite a few old amp schematics that have a cap that can be switched between ground and one of the mains lines before the power tranny. i dont know if thats it but other than what LK said its all i can think of.
  9. I first saw one of these in a shopwindow in tin pan alley up in london. they look cool in a kind of kooky way.if i was offered one for really cheap id take it but tbh i dont think id drop the money on one. unless it actually sounds really interesting and different lol
  10. Ive only heard the singles so far so i can only comment on them American Idiot was promising and was a good solid 4 bar power chord riff type affair which greenday do pretty well imho boulevard of broken dreams and the latest single (i think its holiday) just make it seem like they're past it and trying to do something different to make up for it. they're not terrible songs they're just a bit...well..."meh" really
  11. i think i remember seeing something like this when i was reading some stuff on the site of whoever it is who makes those compensated nuts......earvanna nuts, thats it. im fairlly sure that on their website they had a list of people who used them and one of them was a guy who had a guitar made that he could play with a bow hope thats at least somewhat helpful lol
  12. LK im afraid that you cant install new models on the student version of circuit maker, ive tried before and its one of the other draw backs. man i wish i could use decompilers properlly, id spend time just to be able to work around that since itd be so useful.....wait, you didnt hear me say that......i wouldnt do anything illegal.....i better go now
  13. a simple 9 volt adaptor with a multi adaptor thingy will be fine to power them AS LONG AS you check it to make sure it can handle the current. the majority of pedals dont draw that much but some things draw loads. my DD6 draws about 200 ma for example. check to see that the adaptor you get can hanbdle the current you need for your pedals at 9 volts. unless you're running lots of high current draw pedals you should be fine with anything that can give 1 amp at 9 volts. if i doubt the current draw for pedals is normally listed in the owners manual. you may also want to be wary of ground loops if you're using a multi power adaptor. it wont fry your pedals but can be an annoying source of hum and interference. the same goes for the adaptor infact. a cheap, unshielded, minimal smoothing adaptor can add nasty hum and noise to your signal. this actually leads quite nicelly onto the big muff question yes the BMP can be changed to work of a 9 volt adaptor. its a pretty easy thing to do and all you need to do is drill a hold in the case and then reconnect/solder a few bits of wire to the right places. however, from what i know the BMP can be a bit pissy when connected to a non battery source and if it isnt a stable 9 volts then it will buzz/hum/scream at you. so in closing lol yes cheap adaptor will work, tho it may introduce hum and noise and juct make sure it can handle the current more expensive adaptors will be better shielded/ have better smoothing so less noise but with multi connections you may still get ground loop hum. BMP can run off adaptor but if you do that you may want to spend a little more on the adaptor to make sure its a half decent one hope thats all helpful. ask more questions if you need more answers
  14. edit: double post, im a muppet and i love it
  15. BSIAB is fairlly high gain so if you use that then id make sure you shield the cavity of your guitar well. i suppose the same goes for any high gain device really so make sure you do. which circuit you have is a matter of taste but like LK said, go with a stereo jack to switch the power to it on/off and also go with a DPDT. the only other thing id think about is how you're going to have volume/tone controls set up. obvious choice is to have them after Pups and before distortion but then if you have a volume and drive pot in the distortion circuit then do you want to have 6 knobs flying about on the guitar. just something to give a bit of consideration to maybe. otherwise i cant see much holding you back. onboard effects are pretty cool and make life a bit easier if you want to change things mid song. i have a brian may treble booster built into my homemade frankenstrat and the range of sounds it can get just by playing with a master volume, master tone and treble/dry signal mix pot is amazing
  16. biohazard. if you were loking for small boosters to start out with then id go with one bipolar, one mosfet and one jfet circuit. so the LPB1, Fetzer Valve and the AMZ mosfet boost would be good places to start. they're small circuits and theres enough theory behind them to learn without being so much you get swamped (in truth theres loads of theory but the majority wont matter for the moment lol) once you know how those circuits work and (just as importantlly) have got to grips with CMS then you can start making bigger things. i currentlly have an entire schematic for the tube amp that i bought off BigD and am gonna get around to sorting out (soon...ish lol) Paul, i had a look at making devices but it went WAAAAYYY over my head. i couldnt even find summat as simple as the variable for hfe or simple leakage current. it really had me stumped. theres probablly a bit in the manual but i didnt read that far lol
  17. paul, spectrum analysis is fairlly easy. in the analysis setup thingamymenu thang, just check the box next to AC. go into that set of options and set the frequency range you want it to analyse (20 to 20k i go for but i have no idea how high and low it can go). then just chuck in a bunch of check points and according to the manual put it on decade for sweep. once you have that sorted, run the circuit like normal and there'll be another window appears. click on that to bring it into focus and then probe whatever point you want to in the circuit. you have to have a signal generator connected to the circuit to do it i think. you can also have multiple points in the curcuit checked so you can see how the response changes. highlly highlly useful since nobody actually likes the maths of filters lol biohazard, one of the best ways to get used to using it and also to learn is to just build a simple mini booster style thing. play with the biasing and other resistor values and see what it does to the clipping/gain/etc then you can start adding more stuff and playing with bigger circuits. alot of the stuff i build i design with this then go to breadboarding. cuts ouit alot of the "WHY THE *%£^ WON'T THIS WORK" stage lol
  18. CMS is a great little program isnt it. i mainlly used it for playing about with biasing in transistors to help me understand that and the frequency spectrum analysis thang. saves a helluvalot of time working out filter equations when you can just change values willy nilly and see a full read out of the response. i love being lazy
  19. hhhmm, now why didnt i think of making a mini booster pedal with a darlington. cheers for the idea ansil man. ill give that a try when i have the time
  20. like isaid a bit earlier in the post, just think of it as payback for all the time you've sepnt answering questions on neck angles and finishes lol
  21. damnit, ive already spent almost a grand and a half on my new computer to record with. thank god my next paycheque doesnt come through for a bit. i might have forgotten all about this by then
  22. have you got it connected to the line in or the mic in? there is a difference between the two and if i remember right, the line in is better because its designed for line level inputs.
  23. im finding that the line out is good but just doesnt seem very full and that the miced signal sounds very dull.....however. recording with both of them and running it together sounds pretty good. i reckon a bit more learning is needed with the mic placement but thanks for all the help guys. i think that the major things holding me back now are my amp and my tone. better (but not necesarilly bigger) amp and probablly a new set of Pups for the Kramer should do it.
  24. im assuming you're in the US and not the UK yeah. if you are indeed this side of the pond, what tube amp parts have you got going? any power trannies perchance?
  25. that is a good point greg and seeing as the output on the DFX already has something of a cab sim on it it may not be too bad. the sm-57 is still gonna be used for vocal work and maybe for picking up my acoustic playing so its still not money wasted. maybe its time then to sort out building that new amp lol
