  1. And snitch the inlay trick from him, yeah yeah... so long ace
  2. Just a crazy idea, might well be I'm talking from deep within my rectum, but isn't hydrogen peroxide the (or onf of the) agent(s) used in hair bleaching products? Or was at least used in those some time back? from what I hear, nowadays bleachers are supposed to be more sensitive, but I don't really buy it, you need a structural pigment change and therefor you need agressive chemicals, so it might be a good idea to ask your hairstylist for bleach and try that? Btw, Marcel, what brands for wood dyes do you know in Germany? Xyladecor only has a pretty limited color supply as it seems and I don't know if the color I want to achieve is within their spectrum. Thinking about it, maybe we should start a special thread for the continental European guys about brands, resources and stores/companies? so long ace
  3. Nah what he said is exactly true, but I think it's not the answer to your question. Maybe I misunderstood your question in the original thread as well as here, but I thought you wanted to know what force is exerted on the ARM of the vibrato, so that you know how rigid your trem arm must be so that you don't bend it when going wild with the vibrato. In which case I have to say I don't know exactly off the top of my head, BUT: There is a formula to calculate the tension coefficient of a spring and using the string tension calculated with the other tool and taking that as your reference point, then measuring the stretching of the string compared to its unstretched size, you can do an equation that will tell you how much force (in Newton) you need to stretch the springs by a certain amount (depressing the bar). If that really IS what you need, I'll dig through my essential physics book and look up the formula you need. so long ace
  4. And he can even tell you what dirty jokes they printed on the paper in braille so long ace
  5. I suggest you mount a telescope leg under it so that you can put the weight on that when you're not jumping around on stage. And I'd advise you not to do the guitar sling behind your back because if you're not standing stable you'll probably catapult yourself into your amp Can't wait to see and hear the finished thing man. You're really making us proud. so long ace
  6. knob-a-licious ;-) so long ace
  7. Yo snork, what order are you gonna put the strings in the tuners in your headstock? The tuner holes seem way of, like with a huge gap between the G and B string? And A and D this close together? I'll shut up if it's only a basic shape drawing so long ace

Do we have an "explanation of the month" award? If so, I nominate Curtis for the egg stuck in a rubber cup. if you can get between the knob and the body, try using a lever of some sort from two sides at once to lift it equally. Use a protective underlay so you don't scratch the finish around the knobs. so long ace
  9. Was it really that unfixable? I think the guitar looks way to beautiful to not finish it. Exactly that. How long did that body take you? so long ace
  10. Wasn't it Michaelangelo (the painter/sculpter, not the wig-wearer) who, when asked how he did his stunning statues "It's already in the stone, I just hew away everything that surrounds it"? Perhaps it was somebody else, but I'm sure I remember that quote... so long ace

  12. Holy shake...that should look killer when inlaid. Definitely do a tutorial on this. You've come a long way man. so long ace
  13. Any idea what that stuff costs if you aren't in the lucky position to snag it from your workplace? And it's peel-and-stick, right? so long ace
  14. Good to see some consensus on the board ;-) My initial reflex would have been "ebony" but seeing how the bunny on the maple board turned out had me wondering...need to contemplate more so long ace
  15. mirror like vinyl me likey...where did you get that from? so long ace
  16. Wow thanks a lot Drew, I owe you one for those, but I'm afraid something is different with my Q-Filter because it has 4 wires coming out...seems like I need to talk to Hohner, maybe they know how to wire it and just don't have the info online so long ace
  17. I was looking around there and didn't find anything so far but I wasn't digging particularly deep either (I know how to work google, too, ya know ). I don't think it would be a good idea to ask there..."ya know, I got one of these ripped off q-filters and I was wondering if anyone could supply a wiring diagram for it..." but thanks for looking anyway JG so long ace
  18. Hey folks, I bought a completely mounted pickguard from a Hohner ST 59 special off of a guy I've been dealing with over Ebay quite a bit. Nice fella and all, but he couldn't help me with one thing: That ST 59 came with a Q-filter wired in, which is basically a cast black box with wires coming out. I know that there's an LCR circuit inside, but neither do I have a wiring Diagram, nor do I know which colour goes to what part inside the box. Of course he took that thing out some time and didn't have the schematics to put it back in. I do know however that the Hohner guys just copied the design from a Bill Lawrence Q-Filter. There's nothing on the Hohner website about that thing so if any of you have wiring diagrams of a Lawrence (or even Hohner) Q-filter handy and could make me a scan or something, that would be mucho appreciado. so long ace
  19. Off the top of my head, these are the songs I play a lot as encores to my gigs... Summer of 69 April Come She Will Cats In The Cradle The Free Electric Band Medley of Born To Be Wild and A Horse With No Name (E-Minor ) Father and Son Wonderwall Wanted Dead Or Alive A Little Less Conversation (in a special transposed version that's got a little Hendrix sound and is great fun to play) Fields Of Gold The Three Great 90s Acoustic Rock Ballads, epitomy of what pop songs were supposed to sound like in those days: To Be With You More Than Words Every Rose Has Its Thorn Now and Forever Right Here Waiting seems like I need some more uptempo songs in my unplugged repertoire, huh? so long ace
  20. Thanks Aaron, well it was a crap body to start with so that makes work easier I guess *lol*. My main concern is indeed realism, so I want to have it worn mainly in those places where wear normally occurs, then again when I think of Rory Gallagher's guitar, that's about everywhere on the body so long ace
  21. EDIT: thanks, that's more like it...easy on the bandwidth so long ace
  22. Turn them into a slideshow Matt ;-) (inside joke) I guess I can speak for the majority in here to say that we'd rather go great lengths than see a guitar die, especially one with historic/sentimental value. Most of us are pretty attached to their instruments (Draks perhaps not *shakes head, still in disbelief*) and know how happy we would be if somebody restored a valued instrument for us. I might be talking out of my rear tho and Jeremy could be on the lookout to score a cheap body but I don't think so so long ace
  23. I was wondering about those two first tops before I read what you wrote...for a second I thought you'd recycled and used the same top on two guitars ;-) so long ace
  24. For my second parts-o-mumbo-jumbo I have decided giving that cream white strat body that I have a shot. In the next picture you can see that among some other traces, it has a burn mark right where the output jack on a different kind of guitar would go Because of that and because it's a crappy plywood body anyways, I thought I'd put it through the paces and go for a relic. Here are the tools I've used so far: I used 80 and 180 grit dry sand paper for getting rid of that appaling shine of the lacquer I roughed up some spots with my cheapo dremel copy for a "wear-thru" effect and threw in a few hits with the flat head screwdriver for good measure. I had no cigarettes handy so I didn't place another burn mark on the body this time 'round but I only started... so long ace
