  1. Yowser! Looks Great Jimmy!! White with black hardware sound nice too. keep at it and keep the pic's coming!
  2. WildKat My buddy played it last night (since I only know about 3 or 4 chords on the guitar -and I suck!) and man does she sound great! I'm gonna have to learn to play better. But then I may never sell any of these! Here's a nice Jackson, althought I liked the Kramer Striker Custom I had last week better. DX10D Transparent Cherry Burst
  3. I noticed that too Wes. It looks like he took a standard strat pg and slapped it on there without regards to the look and finish.
  4. I've never built a hollowbody but all of the one's I've seen use shielded wire running inside the body. There is 2 (or 4) wires inside of a braided shield and it is coated in gray insulation. I don't know any place to get it except at an electrical distributor. Someone else may have a source online. Having an electronics background I always refer to it as "Belden Cable". Belden is the manufacturer.
  5. Thanks a bunch Scott and Ed!! It's on the way to you! Steve
  6. I tried one on ebay when I first got into selling on the 'bay. I had 2 strikes against me - 1. It was a bass (IME they move slower on ebay and get less $$) and 2. No one knows who the heck I am on ebay. So I'd have to agree that a music store is a better option for customs. I have since sold lots of guitars and basses on ebay but they were all name brands. At first I thought it was the starting price I was asking but I proved that wrong with future sales that have started at much higher prices.
  7. Now that you bring it up I think I'm a Peavey guy! Bass Stuff: Peavey Combo 115 Peavey Grind Peavey Fury Samick A/E Bass For practicing at my bud's I have a Rogue 60 Watt with a 10" in it. I have trimmed the personal bass population down since I sell them now so at any given time I have 15-20 guitars and basses to play with. They change every week so it's a ton of fun. I have a Fender 15R guitar amp that I tune them on but when I want to pretend I can play the guitar I run it through the 115 bass amp.
  8. Me? I never mess up! I crackled the guitar in my tutorial 3 times before I got it right.... I stop, have a smoke, contemplate how p.o.'d I am, and if I'm still in good spirits I go back at it and try again. If not I find a distraction for an hour or two then try again. I get less upset the older I get. if I was doing this when I was 20 I would have had a lot of flying guitars!
  9. Yes! The paint will only crackle where you put the glue. If you glue the center and leave the edges clean you would get a burst crackle. Hmmm, or a Carriburst Crackle, Hmmmmmmmmmm........ PS: I sold this one tonight!!! I still have it since it's not assembled yet and I have to take some final pic's before she goes to her new home....
  10. OK, I'll just shut up and go away now............. Sometimes I shouldn't think out loud.
  11. They don't all flare. A typical t-nut presses in and is held in by the tabs sinking into the wood (and if you want, a little wood glue). Here's a standard one - and check out the price - 14 cents apiece!! t-nut Sorry for the confusion by posting the Stafast brand.
  12. Why couldn't you use a "t" nut that is available at any hardware store? I thought of using that on my basses and guitars but never got around to it. The "t" nut is just a threaded insert with a star on top thats folded over (tabs) to keep it from spinning when you torque it. I thought if I recessed the area where the star went I would have wood to wood contact between the neck and body, essentially the same as they are doing for about 50 cents a hole. They only take a few minutes to install. Here's a fancy one but it's basically the same as what you can find at the local hardware store. StaFast T Nut
  13. Bass with Lightwave System Or go to their home page and take a listen. I got a quote for a 4 string last month ($380) because I want to use one this year. I don't know if that will happen or not but it's on the board. Lightwave Systems
  14. Same reason you use one on a guitar. New noises. Same reason us bass players bend strings, slap, pop, tap, etc...................
  15. Yeah, I'm going to burst one of them. I'm planning on getting 4 tops out of it since it's 2-1/8" thick. I'll have plenty to use natural. I looked at the 14" saws but the 18" jet (about $1000) goes to 10-1/4" without a riser. The 14" is just about the same price with the add on. I know someone is going to post a link to harbor freight now with a 14 or 18" for $500! Good old USofA type maple. It looks nice and red, that's one of the reasons I bought it. I know buzzsaw usually wets his wood for pic's (most people do) but it didn't say anything in the ad about it. I'm sure it was wet. That will look nice with a clear on it.
  16. ummmm, gee thanks! Oh, you mean the maple!! Yeah, I just won it on ebay from buzzsaw. I hope it's as purdy in real life.
  17. Hey we're talking about crackle again!!! Wes is a big hairy hijacker!! I put clear on it today. I ended up using Deft lacquer instead of poly. I tested a piece before I sprayed since I had no idea what nitro lacquer and latex would do when they met. No problems at all. When she dries for a few days I'll wet sand it and polish it and post pic's of the finished guitar.
  18. I now have my top. Well, several tops because this is 22 x 7-1/2 x 2-1/8. I have to get rid of my 9" bandsaw soon and buy an 18" so I can start bookmatching my own wood.
  19. My only hint is....................... Explore This!! hee, hee, hee........
  20. I think it really depends on how deep you 're going to get into it. Basics are a good set of screwdrivers and wrenches. For electronics you'll oviously need a soldering iron, wire cutters, stripper & solder. For frets you'll need your files and I always use steel wool (0000) for final polishing. Setups depends on the guitar but allen wrenches, a good measuring device and a screwdriver usually cover it. I say measuring device because I have seen a ruler for set ups at an online place for about $25. I bought a nice steel rule with 1/32" marking at the hardware store for $2. I'm sure I missed some stuff too........
  21. I think we'd all be surprised to find out just how many different brands come out of the same factory made by the same people. Every manufacturing business I ever worked in made "stuff" and put 20 - 30 different labels on it. You find it at the store and some is cheap and some is expensive but they all are the same thing! It's obviously different for guitars as the wood used and the quality of that wood affects price but I have a feeling many of the same people are assembling the different brands, at least the low end stuff.
