Cool... My ver. Spaced 8" on center. I got the hangers on ebay for about $4 each. They are deep enough you can hang 2 necks on each hanger.

As many of you know I licensed some of my designs to other companies. I need to generate funds for new equipment, and contractually, I can't sell these on ebay. So, I'll try them here. I only have a few of these left. They are very nice imports (Korea). Dots suck...period. For some reason I have more problems with them than even the most complex inlays. Even when I CNC the pockets, they never seem to be where I want them in relation to the frets... I have found that going back and fixing, then re-fixing just wastes time, and builds aggravation. I have my "wall of shame" for botched pieces of builds. Actually its a shelf. There are literally dozens of fretboards with issues like this.

Peavey did it also. I worked on bass like this one a couple years ago. It had an obvious seam in the center of the maple board. Beautiful builds BTW...

Neck production has begun in earnest. Doing a batch of 12 this time. Half are for builds...the other half will be offered in the classifieds. Actually...That was an LMI board I got a few years ago. It's got a really nice pattern. But...You guys are right. Here's my "Ziri-stash" Most boards are 1 1/4" thick. The pulled piece is going to be the fretboards on a double neck. I'm gonna book match the fretboards:

The Stewmac ones I bought years ago are poplar. They still seem pretty true. I have a boatload of pale 8/4 purpleheart. I'm thinking of using that instead...

I ran these 12" radius blocks on the CNC a while back out of sapele. I think I did a 20" beam, then cut it into an 8" & a 12". I found the 12" long one works well. Anything longer seems cumbersome to me. I use multiple blocks with different grits to save time & sandpaper. I supply the students in the guitar building class I teach with an 8". I even burn my logo into it to "fancy it up". I'm not sure what one of the 12" would go for...I thought about offering them in poplar or maple...

2 things I have experienced that cause problems like this are: an improperly positioned, or slotted nut, and believe it or not...the fretwire. When doing a customer setup I ALWAYS have the customer there to play the guitar as I'm intonating it. Jumbo fretwire can be a pain when a customer/player has a heavy "touch". I actually changed my playing style to a lighter touch after I started working on guitars to better compensate for the problems associated with G & B string intonation.

My project is still gathering dust. I haven't got to the point of fretting... The newer sticks have a "rail" fret system. I'm still not 100% sure how that works. But, I did notice in my research that the frets were very tall, and the action is very low. You may want to look into the single guitar bridges over the single bass bridges. I was originally looking at building the 12 string grand. If I recall correct, the strings are spaced too close for the single bass bridges to work.

Very cool! I started one about 4 years ago. In mid stream I changed a bunch of things...Then decided to make it a tapping bass. I used the individual bridges and just milled out a larger radius on the butt end to accept a DR bass string with a taper. It worked well. I also used the "pyramid" fretwire from stewmac. Are you gonna do the beveled neck profile, or make it more like a C-shape?

Thanks guys. Ironically. this is one of the Import line. It's a prototype idea for a USA 12 piece run. I needed to get one banged out quick for a photo op for pre-orders. The build quality is surprisingly good. Similar to the Agile line. The paint turned out really good...Mike does great work! It's hard to see, but the base coat is a pearl white. There will be some slight changes to the final design. The jury is still out on an inlay scheme. I could actually do a pearl essence red & white inlay with grey rivets...But I'm afraid it may be overkill.

I'm guilty of that myself. It's easy to get bogged down with finding the right setup. I'm convinced finding that perfect "feng shui" in the shop is impossible, although I'm getting closer. I'd love to see a bench tutorial. I have a "winged" outfeed table I designed fot the guitar class that is very functional....I may post some pics of it.

Time to build one from scratch. It's not that hard if you choose the right plan, and it saves a lot of money. Not to mention the maintenance is easy. You can build a heavy duty 40 x 60 machine for under $6k.

I've got a lot of Grizzly stuff. Some of it is great..other stuff is borderline junk: Table Saw - G0715P = 4 out of 5 stars. needs a stronger motor Jointer - G0452Z = 5 out of 5 stars. It came with a faulty motor, which Grizzly replaced. This is the perfect jointer for figured wood! Band Saw - G0555 = 4 out of 5 stars. I have the riser block, but it's still not great for re-sawing. Drill Press - G7945 / 46 = 1 out of 5 stars. This thing is junk. I would not recommend it at all. It has about 3/32 play in the spindle. My next Grizzly purchase is this: http://www.grizzly.c...le-Sander/G1071 A friend of mine has one and it is very nice. I almost pulled the trigger on one last month, but funds were low. Right now I'm using a cheap harbor freight model. Hope it helps!

I bought a few 8 string necks from him a while back. They were from a dis-assembled guitar. The necks were fine, but not "new". I still have one left. I keep meaning to put it on ebay...
