  1. silvertone coke bottle headstock is just awesome on the dano's and silvertones of the day. And a strat headstock looks good on most everything it's put on.
  2. I think you should be fine with the 500k pots, the single coil just wont have the output the humbucker will.
  3. delay also sounds great in fast soloing passages, it fills in the "spots between the notes" and gives the solo a fuller sound.
  4. why dont you install a regular bridge from like a hardtail strat and line it up with however the neck is and cover/fillin the holes?
  5. Texas specials, all 3. I'm a strat guy, sorry. and I dont know about humbuckers yet, I'll know in a bit after I get my guitar done!
  6. you do have all the grounds grounded to the bridge right?
  7. Well I got my guitar wired up good before I put it int the custom body I'm making. 2 humbuckers, 3 way switch, and hooked up directly to output jack ATM. so I wanted to know something. My grandfather used to work a lot with electronics and was an old time phone repairman before he passed away. (rip). But anyways, looking through some of his stuff, I stumbled across a vol pot. (3 actually). and because I'm a noob and cant read electronics, it says this on it- I want to know what the symbol means (ohms I think) and I want to know if this will work as well as a 500k or a 250k vol pot. ----Thanks, ----------Sean.
  8. some like the middle pickups in strats are reverse polarity. all this means is when it's active with a regular pickup, it stops the "hum" you usually get.
  9. The right amount of chorus, and a nice bit of overdrive will make any strat SING baby SING! Reverb is great for clean settings, and the flanger is great for funky stuff.
  10. I would go with my favorite cheap guitar, a stagg clone of a jagmaster. I just need to put a texas special single coil in the neck, stock middle, and a dimarzio humbucker in the bridge, and get some locking tuners for it. I'd be set. :
  11. You check to see if the speaker connections are good?
  12. Does anyone know of a place that showcases different manufacturer's guitar body styles? I have a strat style, and a jagmaster style guitar already, but I want something different. So any opinions or pictures are appreciated. I want to sort of make a combination of different guitars, you know? taking part of this and that etc. -Sean
  13. I believe those are only for splitting humbuckers into single coils TBH.
  14. that worked! Thanks a lot man! Never would have thought of that either.
  15. ok, I have my guitar (a cheap firstact) and I'm wiring it up. What I want is no tone control, and no selector switch, to switch between pickups, I just want 2 volume pots to control each pickup separately. I have each pickup wired up so if I put it to the output jack, it will play on that pickup, but if I hoock up the other pickup-volume pot with it, everytime I turn down or off one of the pickups, it cuts the signal to the other one, and I get no signal to the amp. Very stumped on how to proceed right now. I have it basically wired like this- Thank god for MS paint any help appreciated guys!!
  16. i hate to give away my secrets but on the guitar I'm fooling around with, I took the on off/volume knob from a 60's TV my grandma was throwing out and now my guitar has an "on-pull up" and "off-push down" setup, and the volume still works. I think I invented something.
  17. My secret is that I'm single. I practice a lot. Thanks btw.
  18. And you wont believe it's a stock squire std series with some visual aids + a crate 15watt amp using it's overdrive, no pedals. Also used is the amps chorus 2, which is enough chorus to color the tone and some delay thrown in. What do you think? Any tips on my playing/ gear combo? -Sean
  19. Alright, this guitar was dismantled when I got it and I'm trying to make another guitar out of it's parts. Now, about wiring, I'm confused as hell. On my pickup there are 2 wires coming out of it, 1 red and 1 bare (+ and -?) and I have a volume pot with 2 wires coming out (the longer one going to the bridge as a ground (I know that) and another one that was sheared off. So, how can I wire these to geather then to an imput jack? I will have pics in a sec. HOpe that helps. I can solder also, if that means anything.
  20. For metal/rock, overdrive at max, guitar at 10, and amp volums at whatever loudness I feel like playing. For blues, I keep the same sttings, just switch from bridge to neck pickup and turn the guitar volume to 2-4. Gives it that dirty tone you really like, especially with single coils. So, when I need to do a solo, just turn the guitar vol back up and you're good.
  21. Anyways, I'm looking for a decently cheap pair of humbuckers (large, not single coil size) that have a great rock tone with a good distortion. I cant stand my current (stock) pickups, no tone at all. Any suggestions? I'm looking for 100usd or less for trhe pair, perferably less. Sean
